TOLEDO, OH- James B. Dominique, age 89, of Toledo, formerly of Deerfield, died early Saturday morning, September 9, 2023, at Otterbein Skilled Nursing of Monclova, OH. Born November 30, 1933, in Fulton County, Ohio, he was the 8th of 9 children born to the late Noah and Jeanette (Grime) Dominique. At a young age James moved to Riga, where he attended grade school. He earned a strong work ethic at a young age, working at Revco and doing residential construction contracting work before serving 33 years as a machine operator for Hydromatic in Toledo. He was fortunate to retire at the young age of 57. Jim married the love of his life, Elaine Ruth McCarty, on August 14, 1954, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blissfield. They celebrated over 64 years as husband and wife before her passing on August 25, 2018. While raising their family, Jim was an active supporter in their academics and athletics, serving as a baseball coach, boy scout troop leader, and had memberships in the Deerfield band and athletic booster clubs. He also gave of his time and service as a Deerfield volunteer fireman for many years. Jim and Elaine were active with the Maple City Swingers square dancing club, traveling to nearby communities to perform. A true outdoorsman, he loved to spend his spare time hunting, fishing, and trapping. He and Elaine were blessed with spending many winters in Palmetto, FL in their retirement. Jim was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blissfield, before recently attending Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Toledo. He is remembered as a great father who loved to be social with his remarkable humor. Surviving are four children, Vickie Carpenter of Toledo, OH, Bernie (Gloria) Dominique of Blissfield, Steve (Audrey) Dominique of Baldwin, MI, and Joe Dominique of Adrian; sister, Frances Zeims of Toledo; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by seven of his siblings. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 10:00 a. m. until 12:00 p. m. at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield. "Robert \u0026quot;Bob\u0026quot; Williams, 85, of Monclova, Ohio, died at 3:10 p. m. Sunday, October 8, 2023. He was born May 16, 1938, in Republic, Ohio to Howard and Marie (Gooding) Williams. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1956, where he was active in the FFA and high school basketball. He entered the US Army Reserves after graduation and completed training as a mechanic. On December 22, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart Mardell \u0026quot;Mardy\u0026quot; Swander. Together they raised two children, Roxana (Dave) Keiser of Waterville, Ohio, and Mark (Anita) Williams of Swanton, Ohio. In 1960, Bob began his career as an apprentice diesel mechanic at Great Lakes Diesel in Toledo, Ohio. In 1972 he joined Columbus Equipment also of Toledo, Ohio, to help establish the Diesel Engine and Transmission Rebuild Department, from where he retired in 2004. Near his retirement and until the very end, he was an Antique John Deere Tractor enthusiast! He began by restoring his father\u0027s 1944 John Deere B which he drove on the family farm as a young child. Bob truly had a servant\u0027s heart and was always helping family, friends, and neighbors with fixing and repairing things. He was \u0026quot;Papa\u0026quot; to his fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren! He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mardy, and his three brothers: Wenzel, Howard Jr. , and Richard Williams, and two sisters: Margery Wall and Alta Jean Groman. Julie A. Vargas, 51, of Monclova, Ohio passed away June 7, 2023 from neuroendocrine carcinoma which she had battled for 4 1/2 years. Her family was by her side. She was born January 10, 1972 in Toledo, Ohio to Thomas and Donna (Sheatsley) Hahn. She married Daniel Vargas on November 26, 1999 and he survives in Monclova. Julie was a 1990 graduate of Anthony Wayne High School. She went on to obtain her Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Julie was a dedicated nurse at St. Charles Hospital for over 30 years. She was a nursing instructor at Mercy College. In 2008, Julie received a Nursing Excellence Award. Julie was a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church in Swanton, Ohio where she was active in the parent's group and CADA. She coached her girls in soccer for many years. Julie enjoyed attending country concerts and taking family vacations to Amish Country and the Smokey Mountains. Her greatest joy was her family and the time she spent with each of them. Ruth Helen Teet, 90, of Monclova, Ohio passed away April 28, 2023. She was born May 30, 1932 to the late Norman and Clarene (Schreiner) Gase. She married James H. Teet on September 1, 1956 and he preceded her in death August 13, 2006. Ruth is survived by her children Richard (Cindy) Teet of Whitehouse, Ohio, Diane (Bob) Johnson of Swanton, Ohio and Joseph Teet of Monclova, Ohio, sister Joyce Momenee of Monclova, Ohio, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Clarene Gase, husband James Teet, brother Herman Gase and sister Erma Jean Boyd. Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee, Ohio where she was very involved in numerous church committees and activities. She enjoyed making Rosaries for the church. She worked as a cashier at Kroger for nearly 30 years. In her earlier years, Ruth taught at Spratt Accordion Center in Maumee, was a member of the Monclova Fireman's Auxiliary and she loved spending time gardening and canning her own food. "Jerome J. \u0026quot;Jerry\u0026quot; Kreuz, 86, died peacefully on March 29, 2023 at Otterbein Village in Monclova, Ohio. He was the last surviving member of a large family of 11 siblings, raised as farmers. Jerry was born November 21, 1936 to Jacob and Melvina (Langenderfer) Kreuz. He proudly served in the US Navy, aboard the USS Helena during the Korean War, leaving the farm to fight for his country. Upon returning home, he met and married Carol A. Gries, and they enjoyed a full and busy life together. Jerry was a life insurance salesman for 23 years. He was an avid golfer, scoring three hole-in-ones. Jerry enjoyed his membership at Valleywood and Highland Meadows Country Club. His love of Bowling lead him to play in the Professional Bowlers Association in 1960. Jerry was a lifetime member of the Catholic War Vets, and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carol; his four children Dennis Kreuz, Debbie (Phil) Schmidt, Joanne Peterson-Bartlett (Bill Bartlett), Beth (Daniel) Baumert; grandchildren Andrew (Megan) Schmidt, Lauren and Ellie Peterson, Lauren (Mike) Anderson and Danica Baumert, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Veronica Helfrich, Agnes Parks, Eleanor Corrigan, Mary Jane Hughes, Regina Ankenbrandt, Antoinette O\u0027Conner, Robert, Norman and Alvin Kreuz. Marthom Brown with family by his side passed away peacefully in his Monclova, Ohio home on February 12, 2023, after a lifelong struggle with heart disease. Marthom was born on April 16, 1950, in Cleveland Ohio, to Thomas and Mary Brown. He was the eldest of their six children. Marthom was educated in the Cleveland Public School system, graduating from East Technical High School in 1969. During his college years Marthom registered as a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War and served his two year service at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, OH. Upon his return to Cleveland Marthom worked for a number of years for the Salvation Army. He was also employed by the City of Cleveland and other social service agencies in the greater Cleveland area. He married Madolyn Hamilton in Cleveland, together they embraced the Bai Hai faith and were faithful members of the Bai Hai community. In 2009 Marthom relocated and became a resident of the Otterbein Monclova Senior Life Neighborhood. Marthom had a love for football and was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns. He had a passion for reading and his favorite genre was science fiction. Marthom was the proud owner of a large movie collection his favorite was the Star Trek television series. Marthom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary, his wife Madolyn, and brother Robert. He leaves to cherish his memory brothers, Steven and David Brown; sisters, Mary-Thom Williams and Rosa Linda Brown; cousins, nieces, nephews and his Otterbein family.Show more

Byron Gaylord "Sam" Reed, 83 of Monclova passed away December 31, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 29, 1939 to Gaylord and Ruth Reed in Toledo, OH. He married Joyce (Stykemain) on April 29, 1961 in Toledo, OH and she survives him. Sam owned and operated Reebar Die Casting in Waterville, OH which was founded in 1972 together with his father and a partner. In 1977, upon his fathers death, he took a risk leaving a steady job as a machine repairman for Ford Motor Company and went all in to build Reebar into a successful business that just celebrated its 50th year. His only son Byron joined the family business in 1996 and continues to operate it today. Over many years Sam and his wife built a beautiful homestead including barns, pastures, and bridges along Swan Creek. He enjoyed farming the land along his property. On most Friday and Saturday summer nights you could find Sam at area dirt tracks along with his son Byron and their sprint car crew. Together they built a team that won many races and championships at Attica Raceway and Fremont Speedway in Ohio. In June 2021 together with his wife, Sam was inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame as a car owner. Some of his favorite moments were talking with other car owners and racers at the track. Sam is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce; his son Byron (Kelly) Reed; grandsons, Sam and Luke; and sister, Judy Smith.
