James H. "Jim" Davis, 81, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully during the morning hours of Saturday, September 9, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on June 29, 1942, to the late Henry J. "Hen" and Myrtle (Joiner) Davis in Brookville. He attended Pine Creek and Brookville Area Schools. Jim married the love of his life, Virginia Wolfe, on August 13, 1966, in Knoxdale, PA. Jim said he knew he would marry Virginia after their first date. After 57 years of marriage, Virginia survives him. In 1965, with his parents, Jim founded Davis Used Cars and Parts, a salvage yard and towing service serving the Brookville Area until his retirement in 2011. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and spending time with his family. He loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events, activities, and spending time with them. Jim was a practical joker, who was quick-witted, and was always ready to make everyone smile. Jim was a former member of the Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by four children; Jodie (Mark) Holben of Middletown, VA; Christine (Steve) Silvis of Brookville, PA; Jill (Tim) Orcutt of Corsica, PA; Ronald (Laura Guggenheim) Davis of Avon Lake, OH; and two sisters; Barbara Bowser and Virginia Rowan. Jim is also survived by six grandchildren; Kelsey (Jerrius) Baltimore; Landon Holben; Levi Orcutt; Ava Orcutt; Rayna Silvis; Rivers Davis; and all of his favorite nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in passing by his infant brother; Henry Jackson Davis; sister; Catherine Walton; and brother; John Davis. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 2pm to 6pm at the McKinney - d'Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. Kenneth "Moose" Eugene Myers Jr. , 76, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, in Inverness, FL. Moose was born on January 11, 1947, to the late Kenneth Eugene and Virginia Irene (Rankin) Myers, in Brookville, PA. Moose graduated from the Brookville Area School with the Class of 1964. He married the love of his life, Rosalie McKinney on May 2, 1970, in Brookville, PA; Rose survives him. Moose proudly served his country with the United States Army. He was active duty during the Vietnam War with the 173 Airborne Division. He also served at the US Army Reserves base in Brookville until retirement. Moose retired from Owens-Illinois in Brookville, PA, after over 30 years of service. Moose was a simple man who loved to spend time with his wife. In addition to his wife, Moose is survived by one son; Brian (Heather) Myers; two siblings; Gale Wolfe; Curt Myers; two grandchildren; Rilee Myers; and Gavin Myers. Moose was preceded in passing by his parents. George Washington Smith Jr. , 78, of Brookville, PA, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 20, 2023. George was born on July 26, 1945, to the late George Washington and Margaret (Hughes) Smith in Brookville. George married Lena Pauline Carpenter on January 28, 1967. George had a passion for life that was reflected in his love for fishing and gardening. He found solace by the water, casting a line and enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors. His green thumb was well-known, being awarded "Gardner of the Month. " He took great pride in cultivating a beautiful garden that brought joy to all who visited. Above all else, George loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and was "born to be a Papa". One of George's greatest joys was spending time with all of his grandchildren. He loved to share laughter and stories. His love for family was evident in every moment spent together. He will be remembered for his kind demeanor and true love for his family. In addition to his wife, Lena Pauline, those left to cherish his memory are three children; William Randall Carpenter; Robyn Lee (Larry) Carpenter; Tammy Lynn (Kyle) Fiddler; three brothers; Harold Smith; Richard (Wanda) Smith; and Leslie James Carpenter; two sisters; Ina Jeanne Parton; and Pamela Carpenter. George is also survived by six grandchildren; Larry Joe II (Cynthiea) Williams; Kellan Fiddler; Keaton Fiddler; Zach Carpenter; Heather (Paul) Plyler; Brianna Cogley; five great-grandchildren; Dannielle "Danni" Williams; Levi Williams; Colton Hughes; Ella Plyler; Ava Plyler; and several nieces and nephews. William Maxwell Spindler, 99, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, while a resident at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor. He was born on November 16, 1924, to the late Charles Ward and Twila May (Corbin) Spindler in Brookville. William proudly served his country with the US Navy as a Signalman Second Class during WWII and was stationed on the USS Elizabeth C. Stanton. He graduated from high school in Corsica and went on to graduate from Freed-Hardeman University with honors. William worked hard wherever he was in life to provide for his family. He held many positions throughout his life including as a social worker for Suffolk County, NY, he also worked as an orderly at Good Samaritan Hospital for twelve years. Following his retirement, William returned home to take care of his mother until her passing at 103 years old. William was a profoundly faithful and devout Christian, he attended church wherever life took him including at Brookville Church of Christ, Roseville Church of Christ; and West Islip Church of Christ. In addition to always attending, William was also an ordained pastor who served at multiple churches including in Willingboro, New Jersey. His last Pastoral position was at the church he co-founded, the Allentown Church of Christ. He was also known to volunteer at bible camps, specifically Camp Shiloh in New Jersey and a camp in West Virginia. William's desire to help others extended past his home and even country, as he traveled to Honduras on a mission trip. William was a very simple man that wanted nothing more than to care for others and make them happy. His top priority was his family and his children never felt as if they weren't provided for. William also had immense pride in his country and hometown. He was a good man who always put the needs of others before his own, he will be dearly missed by many. William is survived by five children; William David Spindler; Patricia Diane (Dominic) Alaio; Mark L. (Maria) Spindler; Robin Joy Spindler; Joyce L. (Jeff) Herring; their mother; Jean Hays; seven grandchildren; Charles Spindler; Melissa Spindler; Matthew Alaio; David Alaio; Marie Alaio; Julie Spindler; Jamie Beninger; and numerous great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in passing by one daughter; Tami Jean Spindler. Margaret "Peg" Elaine (Sprague) Whipple, 86, of DuBois, PA, former resident of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away during the early morning hours of Friday, November 10, 2023. She was born on September 22, 1937, to the late Newell C. and Beatrice (Fye) Sprague in Reynoldsville. Peg married the love of her life, John Whipple, on August 31, 1963, in Sykesville, PA; John preceded her in passing. Peg was a secretary for the Jefferson County Sherriff's Department and also worked for Soldier Christian Academy. Peg was a member of the Light and Life Free Methodist Church in Dubois. She enjoyed playing piano for nursing homes and church services. Peg also like to spend her time coloring, working with ceramics, and crafts. She also loved to travel, shopping, and going out to eat. Peg is survived by two children; Candace (Ron) Rucinski; Mark Whipple; one brother; Newell "Fuzz" Sprague; and five grandchildren; Jonathon, Kari, and Noelle Rucinski; Ashley Leonard; and Alyssa Whipple. Shirley Helen (Carberry) Hetrick, 85, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023, while a patient at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital. She was born on December 8, 1937, to the late Carl S. and Helen I. (Johnson) Carberry in Brookville. Shirley graduated from the Brookville Area High School and married Kenneth E. Hetrick on February 7, 1964, in Brookville; Kenneth preceded her in passing on November 23, 2021. She worked for a couple place including Brockway Glass and Keebler Food Products, but her most beloved calling was as a mother and wife, taking care of her home and helping her family to grow. She was a spiritual person who was Methodist by faith. Whenever she was younger, Shirley enjoyed clogging and square dancing. She loved her hometown and family property, for a short time she had live in St. Mary's and then Kersey, but in 2010 she returned home to continue caring for the family farm. Above all else, Shirley loved her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her "pride and joy". She will be dearly missed by many. Shirley is survived by two children; Denise (Danny) Hetrick; Doug (Brandy) Hetrick; five grandchildren; Lauren Hornung; Stephanie Hornung; Hunter Hetrick; Madisyn Hetrick; Emma Hetrick; and one brother; Carl Robert Carberry.
