Rose C. DeMichele, 95, wife of the late Dominic A. DeMichele, went to be with the lord on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at hospice at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. Born at home in Yalesville, CT on December 13, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Victoria Cerrato. She had resided in Meriden her entire life and began her family there. She was employed by Pratt & Whitney. She retired from Southern CT State University purchasing department. She was affiliated with St. Rose of Lima in Meriden. Rose was an entrepreneur. She loved golfing and in 2009, she got a hole in one at the Miners Golf Course in Meriden.  She loved karaoke, John Wayne movies, bowling, with an unofficial 300 game, but gardening was her passion.  She is survived by her daughter Teresa Daly and her son-in-law Peter; her two grandsons, Michael Greco and Tony Greco and her son-in-law Gerald Greco. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Victoria, her brothers Frank Cerrato of Wallingford and Raymond Cerrato of Wallingford and Caroline Zalenski of Cheshire. Time and date of a memorial service is yet to be determined and will be at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Delmariz “Gorda” Matiaz, 36, wife to her high school sweetheart Luis M. Adorno, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at MidState Medical Center. Born in Meriden on August 22, 1987, she was the daughter of Victor Matiaz and Amparo Villanueva. A lifelong Meriden resident, she graduated from Maloney High School, class of 2005. Delmariz was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, and aunt who loved spending time with her family. She had a sweet tooth and loved baking. She loved music and was known for being kindhearted with a little bit of feistiness. Delmariz loved being a twin and her world revolved around her twin sister. Besides her husband, mother and father, she is survived by her two sons, Joniel Luis Adorno and Miguel Luis Adorno; her five sisters, Claribeth Bonilla, Jannelys Bonilla, Ines Beniquez, Jennifer Matiaz, and Melissa Matiaz and her two brothers, Arnaldo Lopez and Brian Matiaz. She is also survived by her grandmothers Claricia Gonzalez and Lucy Matiaz and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Damaris “Flaca” Matiaz. Ronald Judson Steinmetz, 86, of Meriden, CT, formerly of Trumbull, CT, passed away at home on Sunday, February 18, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Elva L. Steinmetz of 38 years.Ronald was born in Bridgeport, December 25, 1937, a son of the late Judson Hall and Helen (Barthelmess) Steinmetz. He graduated from Milford High School in 1955 and enlisted in the U.S. Army and honorably served his country from 1956 to 1959. Ronald then began a 30-year career at I.B.M. where he worked as a Field Tech Engineer until his retirement. In addition to his wife Elva, he is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Steinmetz of Meriden, and her children: Chasity Sands and her husband Donald of Southington, Amber Galaske and her fiancé Zack Goodrich of Southington, and Ronald Judson Galaske of Meriden; his daughter, Jennifer Haisley of Katy, TX, and her children: Eric K. Haisley and his wife Shannon of Southbury, and Lee Demers of Newtown; his son, James L. Haisley and his wife Patricia, and their children: Justin, Kyle and Jackie Haisley of Wallingford. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Ellis and Logan Sands, Charlotte Galaske and Ella Rae Goodrich of Southington, and Harley, Gryffin and Declan Haisley of Southbury; his cousins, William Barthelmess and his wife Debbie of Woodbury, Dale Steinmetz and his wife Winann of Milford, and Joan Testa and her husband Louis of Naugatuck; his sister-in-law, Margo Dudas of Southbury; his brother-in-law, Raymond Corey of Clifton Park, NY; and numerous cousins and friends.Ronald was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa E. Miguel Acevez Barba, 85, husband of the late Jovita Ulloa, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was the son of the late Pablo Aceves and the late Berenice Barba. Miguel was an agricultural farmer for 64 years until his retirement and was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church in Meriden, CT. Miguel was many things to many people. He was a great father and a very hard worker. Always friendly, honest, and kind. He loved to play cards, spend time at the casinos, and watch rooster fights. Miguel also loved his music, mostly mariachis.He leaves behind two daughters; Norma Elizabeth Acevez and her husband Adrian, and Maria Guillermina Acevez and her husband Efren; six sons, Miguel Angel Acevez and his wife Martha Ruiz, Pablo Acevez and his wife Livier, Saul Acevez, Oscar Acevez and his wife Ana Isabel, Hugo Alberto Acevez and his wife Gisela Gonzalez, and Abel Acevez and his wife Jaqueline. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, Isaac, Jacqueline, Kathy, Miguel, Edgar, Oscar, Saul, David, Alejandro, Valeria, Sandy, Adrian, Fernando, Oscar, Brian, Isabella, Christopher, Kasandra, Nalleli, Miguel, Daniel, Diana, Pablo, and Mariana; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosa Acevez, Nazaria Acevez, and Berenice Acevez; as well as many nieces and nephews. Miguel was predeceased by his three sisters, Dolores, Amalia, and Carolina Acevez, and his brother Pedro Acevez. Barbara G. Cornell passed away, Friday, February 16, 2024 at Midstate Medical Center after a brief illness.Born on March 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arthur & Agnes Gaboury of Lincoln, R.I. Barbara was the loving wife of the late Ronald E. Cornell Sr. to whom she was married for 57 years. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Gaboury, her son John, and is survived by her sister Marcia Larsen and her brother Paul Gaboury. In 1953 Barbara and Ron moved to their new home in Meriden, CT on Sagamore Rd. where they raised five children, Ronald E. Cornell Jr., Karen Stigliano, John A. Cornell, Christopher Cornell, and Paula Sicuranza. Barbara also had 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Barbara had a very successful career in real estate working as an agent for the Lynwood Agency for many years and then The Home Store. Even in retirement real estate was in her blood as she actively watched market trends. In their retirement years Barbara & Ron enjoyed Winters at their home in Key Largo, FL and spent many Summers at Camp Dennen in MA. Barbara had a long retirement and was very active in a number of endeavors. She volunteered at the soup kitchen in Meriden, regularly swam at the YMCA in Wallingford, was President of the Widow & Widowers Club, and loved to play Bridge. She regularly attended the Senior Centers in both Wallingford and Meriden. Calling hours and a memorial service will be held at the Meriden Memorial Funeral Home 450 Broad St. Meriden, Thursday February 22, 2024, from 11AM to 1PM. At 12:30 PM a brief service will be held at the funeral home where family members will memorialize Barbara. At the request of the family, burial will be private.Barbara will be interred with her late husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Gypsy Lane, Meriden. Starr Sarrazin, 60, of Meriden, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 following a valiant battle with cancer. She was born in St. Petersburg, FL on December 21, 1963, a daughter of the late Carl Tillbrook and the late Karen DeFazio.Starr worked for Voya Financial as an ERISA Consultant for many years. She was an avid cross stitch master, an amazing cookie artist, she loved working in her gardens and cooking alongside The Barefoot Contessa. Starr loved to travel, the beach, hosting events for her family and friends and walking her beloved dog, Blossom at Hubbard Park. Starr is survived by her beloved partner in life, Chris Dougan of Meriden; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jennifer Sarrazin of Southington; her sisters, Nicole (Donna) Valenti-Tillbrook of Warwick, RI and Erica (Jesse) Rogers of Ocala, FL; and her honorary sister, Andrea (Allen) Atkins of Meriden; as well as numerous extended relatives and many cherished friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Rusty DeFazio. Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., on Monday, February 19th from 4:00 – 7:00pm. Joan Scalzi, 93, wife of the late F. Paul Scalzi Sr., died peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Born in Stamford in January 21, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Madeline (Steele) Belcourt. She was a lifelong Meriden and Old Saybrook resident and graduated from Meriden High School. Following her graduation, Joan was the secretary to Monsignor Griffin at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Meriden until her marriage of 68 years. Joan’s love of her family mirrored her grace and beauty. She enjoyed playing piano, tap dancing, skiing in Vermont, and spending time on the beach at her homes in Old Saybrook and Vero Beach, FL. She loved visiting her family in the Bahamas and traveling to exotic locations. Joan studied metaphysics and passionately followed UFOs and the teachings of Edgar Cayce. Joan is survived by her daughter, Linda Kranich and her husband Edward; her two sons, Jonathan Scalzi and his wife Kathleen (Kravitz) and William Scalzi and his wife Isabelle (Mekies); her six grandchildren, Paul, Elise, Katharine, Edward, Erik and Jeremy; her six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Francis Paul Scalzi Jr; her grandson, Bradford Charles Scalzi; and her siblings.The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Chester Village West and to her special care giver, Gina Gedza for their compassionate care.Family and friends may call at the John J. Mary Ann Goralnik, 77, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, February 12, 2024, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Meriden, CT on December 24, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Bessie Wragg. She graduated from Maloney High School in Meriden and was a long-time resident of Cheshire. Mary Ann was employed by Lyon and Billard Lumber Company. Mary Ann grew up an only child, however, she created a large family for herself with five children and five grandchildren who she loved spending time with.  To say that Mary Ann is an animal lover, especially dogs, is an understatement. When she wasn’t taking care of the many dogs she had throughout the years, she would feed the neighborhood animals. She showed compassion for people, she would always lend a listening ear to anyone that needed it. Mary Ann loved flowers, cooking, and sewing. Her creativity did not stop there. She enjoyed painting, a passion that her grandchildren shared.She is survived by her daughter, Lori Goralnik of Durham, CT; her sons James and his wife Angela Goralnik of Hebron, CT, Daniel and his wife Claudia Goralnik of Durham, CT and Lorne and his wife Insiah Goralnik of Higganum, CT; her grandchildren, Jacob Goralnik, Joelle Goralnik, Gage Goralnik, Jenni Velleca, and Lyla Goralnik; the father of her children Edd Goralnik and her puppy Bella. She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Michele Goralnik and her companion Frank Forbotnick. A private funeral will be held on Monday, February 19th at the John J.
