Karen Hale

Karen Hale

Age - 81

November 29, 2023

Karen Louise Hale, 81, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2012, formerly of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 19, 2023 in Cape Coral surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born October 29, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Dorothy Rivaldo. Karen was a devout LCMS Lutheran and was associated with many church congregations as she found her passion working in Deaf Ministry and bringing the word of the Lord to many. One of her greatest accomplishments was traveling to Ghana to bring Bibles and the word to the Deaf. She also loved her weekends as she would schedule interpreters and interpret in various churches throughout the Northwest Chicago Suburbs. Besides working with churches Karen was a Master Interpreter working Full-Time and freelanced for the surrounding NW suburbs' court houses, hospitals, schools and colleges including William Rainey Harper College and Lake County Court house as well as other various local organizations. Karen was involved in numerous Deaf organizations throughout the Midwest, too many to list. Sign language interpreting became an art when watching Karen sign. The Christmas season was an especially beautiful time, watching her come alive as she signed her favorite hymns. To be able to watch her in action was truly a gift. Karen was a mentor but more importantly a friend to many who often became like family. Her smile and laugh lit up a room. She spent her free time with her loving family and grandchildren. She was involved in both her children and grandchildren's activities at school from coaching softball and volleyball (no the kids did not make it to the pros) to accompanying trips to Walcamp. She enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, coho fishing with friends and her famous fried chicken (we believe people asked to go with her just for the chicken) weekends camping, as well as traveling with Ken and their camper across the US. Shopping trips were her second favorite kind of trip along with grabbing coffee (especially an Iced, nonfat, no whip mocha latte) with anyone who would accompany her. And where there was music, you could find her dancing. Karen loved life and lived it to the fullest. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Kenneth Hale; children, Nina Shaw (Jim) of Cape Coral, FL, Cindy Vann (Wayne) of Fox Lake, IL, Kenneth Hale, Jr. of Burlington, IL, and Janine Liwosz (Kelly) of Morristown, TN; brother, Joseph Rivaldo, Jr. (Nema) of Booneville, AR. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ashley Denton, Cody Denton, Riley Shaw, Tiffany Vann, Nathan Hale, Madison Hale, Carter Liwosz, Rose Liwosz; and two great grandchildren, Aubrey Nicoline and Owen Nicoline. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Rivaldo and her sister, Terri Grimm. The family would like to thank Hope Hospice of Cape Coral, especially Team 320, for all your love and care for our mother. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details to be announced via . Memorial Contributions in memory of Karen Louise Hale are suggested to World Lutheran Deaf Outreach at Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.Show more
