Elliott Jackson "Jack" Blanchard, 89, died Saturday, September 9, 2023 in Chesapeake Health & Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Blanchard was born in Gates County, NC on January 28, 1934 and was the son of the late John Titus and Edith Baker Blanchard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Randall Blanchard; and by his brother, John Gilbert Blanchard. A graduate of Hobbsville High School, Mr. Blanchard later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. An avid sports fan who bled Carolina Blue, as he watched games with a wife who attended ECU, and with sons who graduated from UNC-CH, NCSU, and Duke, everyone understood his allegiance was ALWAYS with the Tar Heels. Jack had served for two years in the United States Army and after moving to Virginia found employment at Planters Peanuts in Suffolk and later at UNIVAC in Virginia Beach. He had retired after nearly 30 years from Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock Corporation as the Director of Data Processing. A member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church since 1967, he had served as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons, on numerous committees in the church, and in recognition of his long and faithful service was named Deacon Emeritus in 2014. Surviving is his wife of nearly 65 years, Patsy Pierce Blanchard; their sons, David Randall Blanchard of Raleigh and Paul Randall Blanchard (wife, Allison) of High Point; and three grandchildren, Alex, Molly, and Margaux. Also surviving is their son Mark's widow, Lynn Blanchard Ferrier (husband, Kevin) and their children, Athena and Sierra, of Virginia Beach; and a special and caring niece, Marinda Crocker of Gatesville, NC. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 12th, at 2:00 p. m. in the Hobbsville Baptist Church Cemetery, 405 Hobbsville Road, Hobbsville, NC, and will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. He will rest in sight of the home in which he was born, on the grounds of the church in which he and Patsy accepted their Lord as Savior, and where they were married. He is home. Friends may visit with the family in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service on Tuesday, or all other times at their residence. Barney Harold Shaw, 69, of Gatesville, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023 in his home following a brief illness with his family and friends by his side. Mr. Shaw was born in Virginia Beach, VA on September 3, 1954, and was the son of the late Tracy Raymond and Rosa Mae Keck Shaw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Shaw, and by brothers, Blair Shaw and his wife, Patricia, also deceased, and Bruce Shaw. Barney was a grader and heavy equipment operator for over 50 years. A truly devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, he loved to travel with his wife, Katherine, and other family members and friends, loving the experience of visiting new places. An avid blues music fan, he specifically loved the blues guitar, and was incredibly knowledgeable about its rich history. He had a special love for all animals, and especially those animals he and his wife shared together. His boisterous laughter always filled a room, and his love of life and quick sense of humor was infectious. He was undoubtedly the life and center of every gathering. A man with a generous heart, he was known to offer help to anyone in need or just to bring a smile. Barney was truly a one of a kind man and will be dearly missed. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 41 years, Katherine Huntington Shaw; his daughter, Christy Gillen and her husband, Billy; his son, Jason Pickle; two brothers, Barry Shaw and Brian Shaw and his wife, Catherine; sister, Katherine Smith and her husband, David; two granddaughters, Leah and Stephanie; and other family members and friends. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, November 13, at 11:00 a. m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by the Rev. Ricky Byrum. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service. " On the evening of August 18, 2023, the loving hand of the Heavenly Father escorted our dear beautiful mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend- Dorothy "Lil Sis" Victoria Lassiter Stallings into his eternal home with her son and family by her side at ECU Health in Greenville, NC. Dorothy was born on May 15, 1945 in Chowan County, NC. , to the late Joe Frank and Sarah Lee Lassiter. On July 3, 1973 Dorothy married the late Willie Van Stallings and with this union they had two sons. Lil Sis as she was known by to so many, had a love for cooking and baking and everyone loved to eat her food. She would feed anybody she came in contact with. Her hospitality was immaculate. She loved gardening and taking many trips to various stores. She was also known for her beautiful smile. In her leisure time she loved watching wrestling, Family Feud and the "Stories" (Soap Operas). Lil Sis was very outspoken, had a big heart, and was a loving person. Even when she knew her health was failing she still continued to help others. The Stallings Family will commemorate a life well lived on Friday, September 1, 2023 starting at the hour of four until seven, in the chancel of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church located in Sunbury, NC. On Saturday, September 2, 2023 the Celebration of Life Service will start promptly at noon, with Pastor Virgil Corpew and other Clergy providing the family and friends with words of comfort to last for the days and weeks to come. After the final viewing of Lil Sis' earthly shell she will be laid to rest in the terra firma of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. During the midday morning hours on Sunday, August 6, 2023 , turned her back from her earthly home to join her husband Celvin Webster in their already prepared Heavenly abode. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Maybelle Porter. as she was called by her family friends, worked in the Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public School System for a number of years before retirement. "Dot" loved her job, as the receptionist at H. L. Trigg, Pasquotank Elementary School, PW Moore Elementary School as well as the Central Office. Everyone that walked in those doors were treated like her family, you would instantly gain a nickname of "baby", "sugar" "my boy", or "my daughter". She wanted nothing but the best for the students that she daily came in contact with. for many years also, worked along side her husband at Webster Sporting Goods, where there motto was, . " They would never let you walk out the store with out buying a shirt, sneakers, hat, or getting a custom made item. "Dot's" love for people started their photo wall in the store, where you could see anyone on it, if legendary NFL players. On Sunday, July 30, 2023 the much loved , slipped peacefully into the arms of the Lord in the comfort of her home. was the middle child and only girl of three children born to the late Jethro Jerome Hayes and Hattie Harrell Hayes. At an early age, she gave her life to the Lord and joined Ballard's Grove Baptist Church of Eure, NC. Later, to be with her family, she moved her membership to New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church. In 1966, graduated from Central High School in Gatesville, NC. After graduating, she went on into the workforce. She was employed at Carolina Aluminum for 10 years. married the love of her life, Whedbee Lee Bond. They were married for 52 years and to this union two children were born, Whedbee Jr and Tomika. was very active and enjoyed participating in several ministries of the church. Additionally, she was a woman of many talents. She was an avid gardener and grew lovely plants, flowers and kept a well-manicured lawn. family and friends will have the opportunity to view her earthly shell for one hour on Saturday, the fifth of August from three o'clock until four o'clock in the afternoon in the vestry on the premises of the Dennis J.
