Irma Luisa Rivera Perez, 59,of Jersey City, NJ, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, surrounded with her family. Irma was loving, caring, happy and always put other before herself. She will be deeply missed by all. (Full obituary to be posted soon) Visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd. Jersey City, NJ 07306. Gregory Mortimer James was born on August 23rd 1968 to Basil James and Hyacinth James in Linden Guyana, South America. On the bright brisk day of November 10th Gregory bid his farewell to us without any warning. He was educated at Kara Kara Primary School and subsequently attended The Linden Foundation High school where he graduated with a Diploma. He took courses pertaining to Carpentry, Metal Lathe Operating where he develop his skills and excelled in Carpentry. In his early years he did a lot of break dancing, and he played sports. He was employed from 2002 through 2007 at KENSAMSON MACHINE SHOP as Grade A Machinist, working with Manual Lathe. Gregory migrated to Barbados and continued his love for Lathe operating at PRECONCO LIMITED and various other duties in Maintenance. Greg, as he is known to us all, received an outstand award for his work and dedicated service after 10 years. He dedicated 13 years of service to PRECONCO LIMITED. He emigrated to the United States in November of 2021 and started a new journey. In 2022 he was employed at Restaurant Depot Warehouse as an AILEMAN for a short while. Gregory was known for his humble spirit and matching caps. He told himself he was the "BEST COOK" and loved to take charge of the kitchen until he would clash with another great "COOK", he had to take a step back and watch on as his wife cooked. Jewel and Greg attended the same high school and re-connected after 30 plus years, and they were later married. Greg was a believer, he started from Sunday school at a young age. Greg fellowshipped at the Master's House in Barbados. He gave his life to the Lord and was baptized. He lived a quiet spiritual life and would share his daily scriptures; he could explain each one in detail. In the US Greg attended the Cityline Church on a few occasions where his wife is a member. Greg volunteered along with Jewel and together they cooked weekly to feed the less fortunate or anyone in need in their community. He is preceded in death by his parents Basil James and Hyacinth, siblings, Brenda, Delmond and Keith James. Nephews Leslie Jr. ; Boyd and Neice Tracey. He leaves in memory: His two children: son, Samuel James in the US Army, daughter Amanili James and his Wife Lady Jewel Bellamy. Siblings: Leslie James, William James, Basil James, Ian James, John James, Donna Brusche Lynette James and Winifred Blair. Sisters-in-law, Jacquelyn, Jeanette, Avril, Roxanne and Shelly; Brother-in-law Clifton and Father-in-law Fred- Roy Willabus. Gregory also leaves a host of nieces and nephews: Leslyn, Laverne, Loyd, Lawrence and Leandra. Sonia, Denise, Rhonda, and Janelle. Basil Jr, Jason, Jasmine, Bonita, Joann, Quincy, Jerry, Brenda and Colette. Ronnell and Rodwyn. Nesta, Raphael and Winni. Leslie and William Jr. Kezia, Aquacey, Malika, Merissa, Delon and Elan. Stephan, Keith Jr. , Jormaine, Kajana and Jahmal; cousins, Deserie Peters, Gerald Yard and the Belgrave family. "I have done my best in the race. Kathleen Anne Filak, of Jersey City, NJ passed away on Monday November 13, 2023. Kathleen was born and raised in Jersey City. She was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. She graduated from St. Dominic's Academy in 1981. She also attended Providence College in Rhode Island and Georgetown University in Washington, DC. before graduating from New Jersey City University with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. Kathy had a passion for working with young adults and loved her time working as the Assistant to the Director of Advisement at NJCU and as a counselor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a number of years. She later became a full time caregiver for her parents but was still able to put her talents to use offering counsel and advice to her many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Her ability to listen and offer advice without being judgmental was a gift, and Kathy's family and friends are going to immensely miss those late-night conversations with her. She was also a therapist for the Alfred M. Fiume Foundation, a cause very near and dear to her heart. Kathy had a keen intellect and unending compassion for others. She will be remembered for her warm smile and her amazing sense of humor, which included an ability to find comedy in any situation. She was extremely well-read and could converse on just about any topic, and was especially passionate about her hometown of Jersey City and the revitalization of Journal Square, in her own backyard. Kathy is survived by her father Andrew T. Filak, her sisters Barbara Goss (the late Jimmy) and Maureen Sauer (Shaun) and her four brothers , Andrew, Jr (Patricia), Michael (Carol), Douglas (Jacqueline) and Ronald Filak (Michele). She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family, and her beloved "morkie" FiFi. Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother Grace Miller Filak, her companion and confidante Fred Filak, and her niece Beth Anne Fusco Sharp. A visitation for Kathleen will be held Friday, December 8, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, 159 Garrison Avenue, Jersey City, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 3026 Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ.
