Juanita G. Guerra entered eternal rest on February 17, 2024. She was born on August 29, 1935 to Francisco and Teresa Galvan in San Benito, TX where she continued to reside with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Marcos Guerra, parents Francisco and Teresa Galvan, her brother Eustacio Galvan, her sister Benita G. Guerra and her son-in-law Robert H. (Bob) Ramirez. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters Julie (Bob+) Ramirez, Gracie (Carl) Little and Esther (David) Ibanez. Her grandchildren Nikki, Jon Paul, Savannah, Joshua, Joseph and Dani. Eight great-grandchildren Isabella, Juliana, Camila, Kairen, Amadeo, Katalina and Ellis. Her brothers and sisters, Faustino Galvan, Cipriano Galvan, Pedro Galvan, Victoria Galvan, Trinidad Gil, Apolonia Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Shortly after Juanita’s husband passed away, she volunteered at San Benito Nursing Home and San Benito Food Pantry for several years. She never thought of it as volunteer work, but an honor to serve the community she loved. She enjoyed being around family and friends and telling jokes. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 o’clock Thursday evening. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito, TX. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito. Pallbearers are Jorge Guerra, Tommy Guerra, Mario Rodriguez, Michael Galvan, Pete Galvan and Carlos Galvan. Maria De Los Angeles, “Angie or Angelita,” Huerta, age 84, entered into her heavenly home on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Pilar and Isabel (Inguanzo) Zamora, on May 31, 1939, in San Benito, Texas. Angelita was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she was an inspirational woman of faith. She participated as a lector and a member of the church choir for many years. She loved to sing even though she did not know how to read the music notes; she was blessed with an ear for music. She sang from her heart and had a beautiful voice. She was also involved with other ministries, such as the prayer group and devoted her time and efforts during the annual church fall festival and the Easter Passion procession. Angelita was also an ACTS Sister in Christ. Angelita truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She was a kind and soft-spoken woman who always made time to listen and offer advice as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and/or friend. She loved to read the bible and would write poems about her reading interpretations; she compiled an entire collection of poems. She always opened her doors to those who needed a home and offered them a place at the table. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. However, we know she is now rejoicing and dancing with the love of her life, +Pepe “El Pachuco.” Angelita is preceded in death by her husband, Jose R. “Pepe” Huerta; her son, Juan Jose Huerta; her parents, Pilar and Isabel Zamora; her brother, Ernesto Zamora; and her in-laws, Pablo and Guadalupe R. Huerta. Left to treasure her memory are her children, Maria (Juan Antonio) Guzmán; Jesus (Sofia) Huerta; Guadalupe (Roberto) Benavides; San Juanita (Eugenio) Ortiz; Jose (+Veronica) Huerta; Julian (Mary Frances) Huerta; and Fatima (+Alex) Garcia; her grandchildren Mark and Melissa Guzmán; Jesse Jr. (Yvette), Jacqueline (Trevor) Trenholm, Jonathan (Marissa), Amanda (Nestor) Rodriguez, Joshua (Laura), Alexxis (Antonio) Estrada, and Audrey Huerta; Kimberly (Mike) Marquez and Joseph (Cecilia) Ortega; Jacob, Justin, and Dr. Jovannah Ortiz; Jasmine Huerta; Julian Jr., Jaelynn, Jaedyn, and Jiannah Huerta; Alexia (Aldo) Banda; Alex Jr. “Hondo” (Julie) Garcia, and Angelina Garcia; her siblings, Ambrosio Zamora, Josefina Salinas, and Guadalupe Campos; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heart warm “Thank You” to Dr. Norma Schacherl, Gentiva Hospice, and Rev. François Tsanga for compassionately caring for Angelita throughout her journey. The Huerta family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Angelita will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Maria S. Rodriguez, aged 82, passed away peacefully at her home in San Benito, Texas, on February 13, 2024. Born on April 1, 1941 in San Benito, she was the daughter of Nicolas and Maria G. Saldivar. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas and Maria G. Saldivar, and her husband, Agapito G. Rodriguez. She is survived by her daughter, Ida R. Garcia (Arnold Garcia Sr.); her grandchildren, Clarissa Garcia, Arnold Garcia Jr., Adrienne Vargas, Andrea Juarez, and Julissa Garcia; her great-grandchildren, Cassandra Martinez, Catherine Robles, Candice Robles, Ricardo Robles Jr., Loralie Valencia, Francisco Vargas Jr., Agapito Vargas, Aubrielle Juarez, Benjamin Martinez, Brandon Martinez; and her great-great grandson, Xavier Martinez. Maria was a graduate of San Benito High School, Class of 1961. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Teaching in 1978 and her Master's degree in Counseling in 1988. She was a Counselor at the time of her retirement in 2015. Her 48 years of dedication as a Teacher and Counselor in the San Benito Consolidated School District left a lasting legacy, impacting the lives of countless students. Her wisdom and guidance will always be remembered and cherished. She was a counselor whose advice was as gentle as it was profound, guiding us through life's twists and turns with a steady hand. Her personality was a tapestry of compassion and resilience, woven with threads of grace and wisdom. Her nurturing spirit created a sanctuary of love for all who knew her. She was the embodiment of love, touching lives with her kindness and leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations. Maria, also known as Grandma Juani, was a remarkable woman who’s made an indelible mark on our hearts. We will carry the legacy of her love with us, forever cherishing the memories and the joy she brought into our lives. We are sad to announce the passing of Esmeralda M. Avila of San Benito, TX. She passed at the age of 61 on February 11, 2024. She was dearly beloved by all her family and friends. She was known for her love of life, children, grandchildren, and all her family. Never one to back down from any challenge. She retired from Texas A&M Extension Services after 23 years of dedicated service. She spent her final hours surrounded by her family until her last breath was taken. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruben & Aurelia Mancillas, sister Graciela Mancillas. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Petruska. Her siblings Guadalupe (Yolanda) Mancillas, Reyes (Martha) Mancillas, Virginia Mancillas. Her children Steven Avila Jr., Ruben Joshua Avila. Her Grandchildren Ruben Alfonso Avila, Heaven Amanda Martinez, and Grace Dixie Avila. Her beloved nieces and nephew. She will be missed by all that knew her.
