Ira J. Steckenfinger, 87, of Jersey Shore passed Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He was born in Lock Haven, December 3, 1934 a son to Albert & Linnie (Allen) Steckenfinger. On October 2, 1976 he married Susan Jane (Bieser) Steckenfinger who survives. Ira was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He was the chief of police for the Avis Borough for nearly 13 years and worked at Piper as the lead man in the paint shop for 33 years. He was a member of the Jersey Shore VFW #5859 and the Avis Legion #284. Ira was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend time at his hunting camp in Tioga County. He loved riding his motorcycles and earlier in life had a passion for racing stock cars. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids! In addition to Ira's wife Sue, his survivors include: two sons, Dale Steckenfinger of Lock Haven and Karl Steckenfinger (Melody) of Jersey Shore; two daughters, Kim Garlick of Lock Haven and Sara Guilds of Troy; a daughter-in-law Debra Steckenfinger of Rauchtown; Brother Lewis Steckenfinger (Barb) of McEllhatten; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, best friends and neighbors! Ira was preceded in death by his parents and a son Jay Steckenfinger. A memorial service will be held June 28, 2022 from 11:00 A. M. - 12:00 P. M. at the Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore, 17740. The service will begin at 12:00 P. M. with Pastor Jeff Pennycoff officiating; interment will immediately follow the service in the Jersey Shore Cemetery with full Military Honors.
