Ira Burl Harris Loved By All Waynesville-Ira Burl Harris, 77, passed away at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde, on Monday, April 22, 2019. A native of Mississippi, Burl had made the Mountains of NC his home for the past 7 years. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. & Lavelle Harris; and a son Gregory Burl Harris, who passed away in 1997. Burl is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Dot; son, Roger (Sandra) Harris, of Vicksburg, MS; four grandchildren, Kate (Brian) Manning of Winder, GA, McKay, Miles, and Mason Harris all of Vicksburg, MS; and three great grandchildren, Addi, Chaysen, & McKenzie Manning all of Winder, GA. He worked at Illinois Central Rail Road as a Carman until their closure and later as a self-employed business owner. Burl loved restoring antique cars, building homes and developing the land, his tractor, being in his workshop and mancave, the beautiful mountains, and bluegrass music especially Balsam Range. He was a family man and loved his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burl was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Smoky Mountain Chapel with Dr. Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
