Tyrone Rice

New York City, NY

Tyrone Rice, son of Dorothy Ann Rice, was born on January 4th, 1959, at Harlem Hospital in New York City. For the first ten years of his life, he was raised by his great-grandmother, Katie Hardwick, in the state of Alabama. It was she who introduced Tyrone to the wonders of southern homestyle cooking. At the age of ten, after the passing of his great-grandmother Katie, Tyrone was sent back to Harlem to live with his grandmother, Martha Ann Rice. Tyrone endured great happiness growing up in Harlem, with cherished memories of family and friendships. One of his greatest delights as a teenager was playing the bongo instrument for the practice sessions with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Along with his grandmother Martha and uncle Butch, Tyrone continued to learn and develop his passion for cooking. Tyrone attended and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School, where he developed a skill for photography. For a span of 20+ years, he held Production Manager positions for Film Strip & Slides and The Slide House. In June of 2001, Tyrone purchased and became the proud owner of The Slide House Plus, a continuation of Slide development and presentations for numerous high-profile corporations. On September 24, 1994, Tyrone united in marriage to Sheila R. Black and was blessed with two beautiful children, Tyler Tyrone Rice and Tyra Dorothy-Ann Rice, whom he loved and cherished dearly. Tyrone loved to travel, and Las Vegas was his favorite destination to visit. He showered his family and friends with his passion for southern homestyle cooking and his enormous sense of humor. Some of our favorite dishes were his southern-style baked macaroni and cheese, baked barbecue ribs, dirty rice, and banana pudding. These dishes were often requested by many clients who heard of his talent for southern homestyle cooking. Tyrone and his birth mother, Dorothy, reunited in 2014, and he cared for her until her demise in 2016. As fate would have it, Tyrone cared for my mother, Virginia Black, and was by her side until her passing in 2019. My siblings, other family members, and friends are forever grateful for the times we had with Tyrone, and his memory will live on through us. Tyrone departed this life on February 9th, 2024, at the New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital. Till the end, he maintained his sense of humor and laughter. He is survived by his wife Sheila, children Tyler and Tyra, and countless cousins. His wife and children would like to thank family, friends, nurses, and doctors who cared for him, and a special thank you to Michael Martin and Helaine Colosimo for their never-ending dedication and friendship to Tyrone.

Carl Andre

New York City, NY

"Carl Andre, a prominent American minimalist artist, passed away on January 24th, 2024, in New York, at the age of 88. Famous for his structured sculptures, Andre's work ranged from large public installations to small intimate pieces. Despite his artistic achievements, Andre's life was marred by controversy, particularly surrounding the death of his third wife, Ana Mendieta, an artist herself. Andre's early life in Massachusetts and his later move to New York City shaped his artistic vision. Influenced by conversations with fellow artists like Hollis Frampton and encounters with influential figures like Constantin Brâncu?i and Frank Stella, Andre developed a unique approach to sculpture. Throughout his career, Andre faced criticism and controversy, especially regarding Mendieta's tragic death in 1985. Despite being acquitted of second-degree murder charges in 1988, Andre's relationship with Mendieta continued to be scrutinized, leading to protests at his exhibitions. Despite the controversies, Andre's contributions to the art world were significant, with his work exhibited in prestigious galleries and museums internationally. His death marks the end of an era in minimalist art, leaving behind a legacy that continues to provoke thought and debate. "

Bryce McHugh Williamson, of New York City and Sea Island, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2024 at the age of 35. Born eight weeks early on June 24, 1988 to Allen and Kathryn (Reilly) Williamson, Bryce, or “Peanut” as she was affectionately called by her parents, was the fourth child and completed the Williamson Family. Having moved with her family several times throughout her childhood, Bryce embraced the value of family time and connection. Her family were her friends and her friends were her family, and both by far were the most important thing in her life. That priority extended into Bryce’s profession as an executive assistant at Bank of America. The job became her passion, and she thrived in supporting others. She lovingly referred to younger professionals as “my juniors”, and took great pride in seeing them succeed at work and in life. It is undeniable that Bryce’s most prized possessions were her seven nieces and nephews: Charlie, Reilly, Huntley, Sam, Ellie, Lucy and Wells. She often would FaceTime other friends and family while babysitting, revealing one of the kids sitting on her lap as she beamed with pride. She was famous within the family for her custom gifts and delight in wearing matching pajamas with her nieces and nephews. Bryce was full of joy and laughter, an optimist, a lover of all things pink, and a Bravo Channel enthusiast. All who knew Bryce miss her already, yet her memory will live on with full hearts, smiles, and gratitude. Bryce attended The Hotchkiss School, Roanoke College, The New York School of Interior Design, and most recently worked as an Executive Assistant in the Energy & Power group at Bank of America. Bryce is survived by her parents, her siblings Tucker Allen (Alexandra Grogan) Williamson, Kathryn Hunter (Parker) Stitzer, Brooke Alden (Noah) Wimmer and her grandfather, Charles E. Reilly Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Palm Beach Shores, FL. Bryce was predeceased by her grandparents Richard Williamson and Joy (Conard) Williamson, and Lynn (Wanger) Reilly. A celebration of Bryce’s life is being scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bryce’s honor to The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, P.O. Box 1193 Brunswick, GA 31520.
