Zandria Weatherbee Huddleston (79) passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2023. She was in the presence of her family in the comfort of her home. She battled with leukemia for 14 years. Although it was a long, tough battle, she never complained and always had a smile on her face. She was a proud member of Gaston Baptist Church and was on fire for the Lord. He used her as a light inside every hospital and doctor's office she stepped into. She shared the love of God with her doctors, nurses, and friends that she made along the way. Before she got sick, she loved gardening, attending Sunday School, taking her grandchildren to the pool, the skating rink, and to eat slug burgers. After her diagnosis, she loved spending quality time with friends and family. She enjoyed hearing about what everyone was up to. one of the things she was most known for was her handwritten cards. Around the time of any holiday, birthday, or other special occasion, you could always count on receiving a special card from her with Numbers 6:24 written inside along with a $2 bill. We will all miss the special little things she did and hold those memories in our hearts. Services are on December 10, 2023 with visitation starting at 1:00pm and the service at 3:00pm at Gaston Baptist Church. Brother Jason Middleton and Kevin Eubanks will be officiating. Private burial will be held at Tuscumbia Cemetery. God gave us our magnificent "Angel on Earth" on June 10, 1951 with the birth of Annette Porter. God called her back to her heavenly home on December 3, 2023, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. We remain so grateful for the 72 years shared together. Annette, daughter of the late Annie B. Gill and Charlie Porter, was born in Pontotoc, Mississippi. She professed her belief in God at an early age and joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Annette remained committed to her baptismal vows and always strived to live her life according to the principles outlined in Micah 6: 8 - to love justice, show mercy and walk humbly with God. Annette was a 1969 graduate of Pontotoc Attendance Center and a 1973 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University. Always committed to public service and helping others, Annette had multiple roles in her work life. She began her professional career with Employment Services, North Mississippi Medical Center, Safe Incorporated, Belk, and then spent many years working at the Mississippi Department of Human Services where she provided exemplary service to those in need. After retirement she spent her most recent years working at Good Samaritan Health Services - again working to ensure access to quality health services for the clients. Annette was very personable and well-loved as evidenced by the outpouring of love by all those she encountered - family, friends and clients. There was never a doubt about the loves of her life, for there were seldom conversations with Annette that did not include references to these loves - her daughter Tierney, brother Mark, and grandchildren Kinley and Kingston. Anyone who knew Annette, definitely knew these names. Her love for them was unwavering, her devotion unparalleled, and ensuring their success and happiness was her primary mission. To know that one is loved is a virtue which we all seek. Annette gave love and received love in this life and her memory will provide strength to us as we go forward. She was born October 23, 1948 in Baldwyn, Mississippi, the daughter of M. Paul Haynes, Sr. and Willard Johnson Haynes. Roberta was a lifelong resident of the town of Baldwyn, Mississippi. It was where she attended high school, where she became the 1965 homecoming queen, where she met the love of her life, Larry, where she married and raised her children, and where she worked happily for 32 years. She was a fiercely loyal supporter of all things Baldwyn, especially Baldwyn High School basketball. She graduated from BHS in 1966 and then went on to attend the University of Mississippi and attained her Bachelor's and Master's degree in Library Science. She married Larry on August 12, 1967 and returned to BHS to become a popular and well-loved educator, known as a tremendous research and reference librarian who helped countless students not only with their educational needs, but also supplying physical needs of food or clothing during her years of service. No matter the cause, she could be counted on to pull any event together through her hard work and capable attitude. She was a true lady in every sense of the word and demanded respect and proper etiquette from all those around her. Even in her final days she was overheard telling staff and visitors to take a tissue, stop smacking gum or cover their mouth when they coughed. She was a fierce competitor and always instilled the value of helping others. She encouraged her family to always travel and experience new and exciting things. She along with Larry passed these traits down to their children and grandchildren. She loved nothing better than to cheer them on wherever they might be. She was adventurous and loved nothing better than spending time traveling extensively with Larry and her family. She was known for organizing trips to Europe and various places across the United States for students at Baldwyn High School. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Baldwyn while raising her family and exemplified her faith daily with encouraging words and actions.
