Howard Blake Western, 81 of Greentop passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023. The son of Oscar Theodore and Yuba Ruth (Slaughter) Western, he was born June 12, 1942 in Greentop, Missouri. He grew up in the McKim community west of Greentop on the family farm. He attended the McKim School. He spent a good amount of his life on the farm where he always had a pet lamb and dog. He later moved in to Greentop where he spent the remainder of his life. He enjoyed playing games with his nieces and nephews. He attended the New Harmony Church then churches in Greentop and currently attended the Bethel Community Church. Howard is survived by his sister, Norma James of Kirksville; one nephew, Phillip James; four nieces, Rebecca Hazen, Patricia McCarty, Karla Renaud, and Ellen Beier; 25 great nieces and nephews; 42 great great nieces and nephews; cousins, Barbara Beckler, Nancy Calhoun, James Western, Larry Western, Vicki Schoeb, Ruth Wyatt, Lisa Boyce, Larry Slaughter and Dan Rose; and good friends, Karen Parrish (his housekeeper), Rick Steele (his driver & helper) and Sheila Lyons (his neighbor). He was preceded in death by his father on May 19, 1998; his mother on May 14, 1970; his brother-in-law, Emmett James and several cousins, aunts and uncles. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Doyle Edwin Talbert, 82, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, surrounded by his family in his favorite place at home. Doyle was the son of Richard and Carleta (Howell) Talbert. He was born in Kirksville, Missouri on March 3, 1941. This was a birthday he would later share with one of his sons, and two great-grandsons. Doyle met his wife, Pauline, when they started attending Greentop High School together in 1954. They were united in marriage after graduating high school on November 14, 1959. Doyle and Pauline lived for a short while in Kirksville, Missouri before moving to a home in Greentop and later to their Greentop farm where they raised horses, sheep, cattle and their four kids: Curtis, Paula, Chris and Patti. Doyle first went to work for Clapper and King Seed in Greentop, Missouri and then at J Burdman Auto Parts in Kirksville. He later began working as the service manager at Jim Robertsons Chevrolet for several years before he became a sales rep for Moorman's feed to farmers in Schuyler County and the surrounding area. In 1987 he was elected as the Schuyler County Clerk which was a position he held for twenty years. For the majority of his life, no matter which job he held, he was also engaged in farming and had a large-scale cattle operation which he ran along with his son, Curtis. After retiring from his county clerk's position, the farm was his full-time job and passion. Doyle loved his John Deere tractors and working on the farm. Doyle received his education from the rural Greentop Pleasant Grove school and went to high school at the Greentop Public school where he graduated in 1959. In his younger years, Doyle loved spending time and bird hunting with his grandfather Artie Howell and cousins. He served for a period of time as the Mayor of Greentop, had been a long-time member of the Wranglers 66 Saddle Club, was a 4-H leader and part of the Extension Council and the New Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. He served as the superintendent of the New Harmony Church for many years. Doyle is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Pauline, his children, Curtis (Cecil Kouakou) of Greentop, Missouri, Paula Ritchey of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Chris Talbert of Greentop, Missouri, Patti Talbert (Doug Browne) of Hannibal, Missouri; five grandchildren, Nicholas Talbert, Tyler Ritchey, Ashley White, Kortney Ritchey and Chris Michael Talbert; and five great-grandchildren, Brinley Ritchey, Addison Ritchey, Huxley Ritchey, Creed Brumley and Brantley Ritchey, brother Keith (Phyllis) of Arlington, Virginia, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Carleta Talbert, father and mother-in-law, Paul and Dessa Walker; brother and sister-in-law, Verl and Vanda Rigdon. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home from 12:00 - 2:00 pm, with the funeral services held immediately after. Burial will be at the Fugate Cemetery Northwest of Greentop. Ken Pamperin will be officiating the service. Musical selections will be Lead Me Home, Take My Hand Precious Lord and Amazing Grace. Ivalee Grosvenor, 74 of Greentop, MO passed away Tuesday (September 26th, 2023) at her home in Greentop. The daughter of Alva Leo and Mary Caroline Williams, Ivalee was born June 5th, 1949 in Kirksville, MO. She was united in marriage to Leonard Keith Grosvenor Sr. in 1965. Ivalee is survived by her Daughter, Sherry Grosvenor of Greentop; Son, Leonard Keith (Toby) Grosvenor Jr. and wife Marla of West Branch, IA; Son-in-Law, Ken Laschanzky; Brother, Rick Williams and wife Pam of Novinger; Sisters, Saundra Novinger and Husband David of Lake of the Ozark, Carolyn Sue Williams of Kirksville and Marilyn Anderson of Kirksville; Grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Grosvenor, Skylar Fenton and husband Tyler, Eric and Jamie Laschanzky; and Great Grandchildren, Abigail, Addison, McKenzie and AJ. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Partner, Randy Wright, Daughter, Mary Jo Hoffman, and Sister, Kathy Easley. Ivalee grew up in the Kirksville area before getting married and moving to the Iowa City area. She worked for Thomas & Betts for 18 years before retiring. Ivalee liked to hang out at the river, fishing, cooking, yard work, and gardening. She could throw a great party and was called Cedar Valley Sally. Ivalee was a member of the Lighthouse of Love Church in Brashear. She loved to spend time with her family. Carolyn Sue (Pearce) Lindquist, 77, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away March 12, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born November 22, 1945 in Greentop, Missouri, Carolyn was the daughter of Harvey "Leon" and Juanita Mae (Bookout) Pearce. She was united in marriage on June 6, 1963 in Greentop to Robert Lee "Bob" Lindquist, who survives. Carolyn is also survived by one son, Douglas (Kelley) Lindquist of Greentop; one daughter, Jennifer Lou Sparks of Columbia, Missouri; two sisters, Linda (Lala) Prough of Greentop, and Debbie (Harry) Clubine of Greentop; one brother-in-law, Lester Leon Lindquist of England; four grandchildren, KaCei (Travis), Kody, Kevin (Amanda), and Rebecca (Eric); and ten great grandchildren: Kella and Kalvin Gunnels; Kasen, Kye and Kimberlyn Lindquist; Kole, Kale, and Kenna Lindquist; Jeremiah and Archer Crawford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Donna Faye (Lindquist) Patterson. Carolyn received her education in Greentop and graduated from Greentop High School. After graduating from high school, her and Bob married and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone company until they moved back to the Greentop area. Carolyn then went to work at Kirksville Savings and Loan, where she retired after more than 30 years of service. During that time she made many friends. After retirement she served as the secretary/treasurer of the Ft. Madison Cemetery. She was a member of Greentop Methodist Church. Carolyn was an avid dog lover and enjoyed watching birds and squirrels. She also enjoyed quilting, traveling to Yuma, Arizona during the winter months, riding her four-wheeler and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p. m. Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri, with Raymond Magruder presiding. Burial will follow in the Ft. Madison Cemetery. Frances "June" Ladwig, 100, formerly of Greentop, Missouri, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on March 9, 2023. She died peacefully with her cat, Bo, curled up by her side and family nearby. June had a special love for her family and often "blessed our hearts". She enjoyed traveling, gardening, collecting antiques, and cooking for her family. We will forever cherish her Christmas cookies. June cherished her faith in Jesus which inspired her to give back to her community as a lifelong member of Trinity United Fellowship and President of Trinity United Methodist Women's group. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Kirksville Chapter #184. June graduated from Kirksville High School, thereafter attended Black Hills Teachers' College, Spearfish, South Dakota. At the start of her career she worked as a supervisor of engineering at Curtiss-Wright airplane plant in St. Louis, Missouri and Templetone Radio in Mystic, Connecticut. She moved back to her family farm in Northeast Missouri and married her husband, Herman Ladwig. She was Director of volunteer services at KCOM where she eventually retired. June is preceded in death by her husband, Herman F. Ladwig; infant son, Richard; father, James W. Hart; mother, Daisy (Vanwey) Hart; sisters, Genevieve (Ralph) Emerson, Gladys (Lowell) Willows, Maude (Marshall) Burke; son-in-laws, Dale White and Rex Bean. June is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Patti"( Michael) Leisner; granddaughters, Tracy Jones-Kirsch (Alex) Kirsch, Lisa (Myron) Williams of Colorado; great grandsons, Alex and Isaac Jones, Jayden Wooden; great-great grandson, Sylas Martin Jones; step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. June's love and faith in Christ will be her legacy to her family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p. m. Ava Christine (Tuley) Smyser October 29, 1970 - December 29, 2021 Ava Christine (Tuley) Smyser, 51 of rural Greentop, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at her home. The daughter of Bruce Tuley and Linda Mineart, she was born on October 29, 1970 in Kirksville, Missouri and was a graduate of the Schuyler R-I High School Class of 1989. On September 6, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada, she was united in marriage to Mark Alan Smyser and to this union two children were born, Olivia and Lincoln. Survivors include her children, Olivia Harris and husband, Daniel of rural Greentop, Missouri and Lincoln Smyser also of rural Greentop, Missouri; 1 step daughter, Alexa Smyser and fiancee, Dustin Schempp of Kirksville, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, Payton Schempp, Rylan Cook, Hudson Schempp, Jaetyn Walter all of Kirksville, Missouri, Banner Harris of Greentop, Missouri and with two more on the way; her mother, Linda Blessing and her husband, Steve of Downing, Missouri; her father, Bruce Tuley of Hedrick, Iowa; two sisters, Wendy Williams of Moline, Illinois and Rachel Dudley and husband, Stephen of Miami, Florida; one brother, Austin Slaughter and wife, Melissa of Queen City, Missouri ; special family members, Manley and Mary Smyser and Brad and Dana Drummond of Glenwood, Missouri; nieces and nephews; other family members and her canine love, Izzy. Christy is preceded in death by her husband, Mark Alan Smyser on April 18, 2019 and her grandmother, Margaret Dickey. Christy was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. Christy loved to travel, thoroughly enjoyed working at the school and living in the community, but she was most passionate about being a mother to her children and grandchildren and a second mom to her siblings! Lori Ann "Buffy" Carter, 60, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022 peacefully at her daughter's home in Greentop, Missouri. Born March 13, 1962 in LaHarpe, Illinois, Lori was the daughter of the late John Oliver and Lorine "Rene" (Robinson) Spiker. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Pamela Houghton. On September 30, 2017, Lori was united in marriage to Edwin Carter. Lori is survived by her husband Edwin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frankie Cooper of Birch Tree, MO, and Jacob and Mandy Graber of Stanley, IA; two daughters and son-in-laws, Ricki and John Higgins Jr. of Greentop, MO, and Shelby and Brendan Jones of Queen City, MO; one sister, Kathy Spiker of Lomax, IL; ten grandchildren, Alexa, John III, Lonny, and Alesha Higgins, Deanna, Alex, and Jacob Cooper, Landon and Karson Graber, and Westyn Jones; four nephews, Josh, Jeremy, and Jason Todd and Junior Butler, Johnna Campbell, Becky Carter, and Bindy Zimmerman, as well as many great nieces and nephews, including close and special Landen Snyder and Kayson Campbell. Lori received her education at Dallas City High School in Dallas City, Illinois. She held many job titles but the position she most loved was mom and grandma for they brought her so much joy and happiness in her life. She also worked as a cook and bartender of the Unionville Country Club. In her younger days, Lori loved spending time with her special horse (Bucko), riding horses, and barrel racing. Lori loved and raised several breeds of dogs and enjoyed riding motorcycles. She was a member of Abate Organization and of Lomax City Saddle Club in Illinois. Roene Ditmars, 95, of Greentop, Missouri, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. She was born September 5, 1925, the second daughter of Theodore and Ruby (Peterson) Sweet in Willmathsville, Missouri. She attended the Willmathsville rural school for grades 1-8 and graduated from Kirksville Senior High School with the Class of 1942. After graduation, she attended Chillicothe Business School before marrying N. L. Ditmars of Greentop, Missouri, on November 2, 1942. N. L. was then serving in the U. S. Air Force and after his honorable discharge, they farmed his family farm in Greentop before settling on their own farm one-half mile north of Sperry in Adair County. They farmed and raised registered Angus cattle for most of their married life in the Sperry community. Roene enjoyed working in every capacity on their farm. She raised a large garden, sometimes two, as well as assisting with the cattle and in any area of the farm where needed. She was N. L. 's best and most willing farm hand. Roene was a long-time member of the Sperry Baptist Church. In the last years of the life of that church, she taught Sunday School, was church treasurer, and kept the church going for many years longer than it would have without her devotion to that small church family and her love of Jesus. In earlier years she was active as project leader for the Sperry 4-H club. She worked at McGraw Edison and Hollister, Inc. in Kirksville until her retirement in 1991, but her first and constant loves were her family, farm, and neighborhood church. Roene was preceded in death by N. L. Ditmars, her husband of 64 years, on March 2, 2007; her parents Theodore and Ruby Sweet, parents-in-law, Warner and Ruby Ditmars, sister and brother-in-law Ivalee and Robert Hartsock, brother Charles Sweet, brother-in-law Kenneth Ditmars and his wife Dorothy, brother-in-law Farrell Ditmars, sister-in-law Lee Jones, sister-in-law Adah Mae Christman and her husband Harold, and many other dear relatives. Roene (Sweet) Ditmars is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Sandra Sparks (Riley "Skip") of Ewing, MO, and Kaye Bertels (Steve) of Meta, MO. Six grandchildren also survive: Kevin Sparks (friend Mary) of Hannibal, MO, David Sparks (Teena) of Ewing, MO, Stephanie Sparks Simmons (Rick) of Lewistown, MO, Jared Bertels (Kellie) of Westphalia, MO, Heather Bertels Ogun (Admo) of Vienna, Virginia, Amber Bertels Castleman (Chad) of Jefferson City, MO; thirteen great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, brother Junior Sweet (Charlotte) of Kirksville, MO as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins. Public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 11:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m. at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, followed by a graveside service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, with Pastor Darrell Draper officiating.
