Caroline Kendall

Caroline Kendall

Age - 93

November 25, 2023

Caroline P. Kendall, 93, of Marcellus, NY, passed away peacefully in her home on November 23, 2023. Caroline was born on June 1, 1930, to Samuel and Catherine Peckham of Newington, CT. She had eight siblings and grew up on the family's dairy farm. Caroline and her sister were the first women to be licensed to pasteurize milk in the state of Connecticut! When she wasn't in school or working on the farm, she played the accordion in a local band. She often spoke about living and working on the farm during WWII; Caroline and her siblings assumed much of the farm work as the hired men were called to serve; their silo was painted black because it was a landmark to the airport; and blackout curtains were installed in the basement in order to candle the eggs at night. As a young adult, Caroline packed her trunk and boarded a bus to embark on a new adventure in Syracuse, NY. She resided at the YWCA and worked as a lab technician at Bristol Myers, doing research on penicillin in chicken feed. She and a friend moved into an apartment, and through a colleague, she met Harold Kendall Jr. They married in 1955 and raised five children: Harold III, Jeffrey, Julie, Gregory, and Gordon. While Caroline's primary devotion was caring for her children and their home, she shared her passion for farming with her husband. They had their own small farm, raising beef cattle and hosting a menagerie of other animals, including chickens, horses, ducks, and pigs. Between the beef and Caroline's epic garden, the family enjoyed organic, home-grown dinners every night. She will be remembered as faith-filled, hardworking, strong, independent, fearless, fun-loving, and joyful. She referred to herself as a true "Connecticut Yankee. " We will continue to repeat her favorite phrase, "Waste not, want not. " The family is eternally grateful to Caroline's very special team of caregivers: Hillary, Emily, Debby, Yawoa, Edie, Antoinette, Phillip, Leah, and Daisy. You loved her and cared for her with tenderness and joy. Caroline is predeceased by her husband, Harold Jr. , and her son, Harold III. She is survived by her four children, Jeffrey (Kristine), Julie Witty, Gregory, and Gordon; five grandchildren, Casey (Hayley), Krystal (Matthew) Barletta, Emily (Tyler) Plahanski, Katie (Alex) Banks, and Patrick Kendall; and three great-grandchildren, Aleea Kendall, Carter Barletta, and Owen Plahanski. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus. The service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Marcellus Ecumenical Food Pantry, PO Box 147, Marcellus, NY 13108.Show more

Born July 14, 1988 in Syracuse, NY, Ashley had succumbed to an 8+ month battle with stomach cancer. Ashley showed an unwavering passion for life that was contagious to everyone she spent time with. Ashley is survived by her husband of ten years, Michael; their beloved two-year-old son Jackson; grandparents Donna and Jack Gilbert; father John (Eleanor) Kurtz, two sisters Breanna (Tom) Spencer and Mackenzie (Forrest) Heaney, brother Ryan Fitzgerald, along with very loving in-laws; an amazing group of friends and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Then landing her first, and only job, with the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, she began the work she was passionate about. At RGZ, her career focus was aimed on advancing Elephant Conservation. RGZ afforded Ashley the ability to travel the country attending conferences and management programs in addition to her dream trip to Thailand in 2016 to study elephant management tactics. Then in 2022 Ashley's undying love and care for the Elephants at RGZ hit global headlines with the rare birth of twin male elephants. Ashley's love for animals of all species began at a young age, assisting her father in breeding and rearing Rottweiler puppies. That is a prime example of how she was known by those close to her to never shy away from tough challenges, no matter how life changing they may prove to be. Ashley expressed exuberant confidence in others, promoting those around her to be their best selves. Even after being diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach, Ashley continued to give everyone her best self. There will be a celebration of life event to honor Ashley on November 26th, 2023, starting at 3 pm at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo 1 Conservation Place, Syracuse, NY 13204. Jim Conway

Age - 88

If you are reading this then I am with my Bride, laughing with my friends and family in Heaven. What a "Dash" for 88 years I lived! I was born and raised in Gooseville Corners where I later became the mayor. I have served on the Fabius Town Board since 1980. A member of the Fabius Historical Society for 30 years. I enjoyed my bowling league for 47 years and playing cards on Tuesdays at my house since 1965. I graduated from Fabius Central School in 1953 and met the love of my life Judy and we were married for 53 years. A Dairy Farmer for 44 years and worked at many surrounding farms in the area. There wasn't a place I went that I couldn't find a field that I worked in. Over the years I donated 17 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. I loved seeing old friends going to lunch and never missing a Fabius Pompey sporting event. I loved hauling junk, sorting bottles/cans and of course, making homemade ice cream, (which I learned from my Mom at age 14). I taught 23 people how to drive and I was honored to have 15 Godchildren. On our farm my kids and their friends attended Hog University where they learned life lessons and how to be a hard worker. I will be joining a lot of family and friends in heaven but I am really looking forward to seeing my late wife Judy Conway, my son David Conway and my parents Helen and Basil Conway. I will miss my loving family, my daughter Patti (Phil) Ondocin, son Michael (Joani) Conway and daughter Danielle (John) Conway. sister Marjorie (Thomas) Berrigan and brother Basil Conway. Along with my wonderful grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Oh what a ride I had! Love you all more.
