Marlene Rodgers, 73, of Baytown, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, in Baytown, Texas. Marlene was born October 20, 1950, in Baytown, Texas, to parents; Hilda and Austin Hicks. She has resided in Baytown and Highlands throughout her lifetime, having gone to Robert E. Lee High School where she later attended some college classes in Houston. She worked for the American Cancer Society for over twenty years and found great fulfillment in her work for the organization. In her free time, Marlene enjoyed latch hook and crochet as well as tending to her garden. She loved her animals, having both dogs and cats over the years. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by her parents: Hilda and Austin Hicks, and her husband James Rodgers. She is survived by her children: Crystal Hicks and husband Chad, Rex Rodgers, and James R. Sylvia Estelle Cordes Lohkamp, 83, of Baytown, passed away surrounded by family Thursday, February 15, 2024, after a brief illness. Sylvia was born October 10, 1940, in Rockford, Illinois, to parents Lester G., Jr. and Stella Anast Cordes. She is a former resident of New Jersey and has resided in Baytown for the past 55 years. Sylvia graduated from Arlington Heights High School and received both her bachelor’s and Master of Social Work degrees from the prestigious Washington University in Saint Louis, MO where she pledged the Delta Gamma sorority. Sylvia had a fulfilling and accomplished career in Baytown as a licensed social worker and family counselor spending many years in the in-patient and psychiatric units treating various disorders across all ages from the youngest of children to the elderly. She also had a successful private practice seeing patients as a licensed clinical social worker. Prior to that, she volunteered as a counselor for, and then ran, the Baytown Women’s Shelter and other organizations. As a counselor to the people of Baytown and surrounding communities, Sylvia made a huge impact on countless peoples’ lives. She possessed the gifts of empathy, the forethought of wisdom and the guidance to nurture people to make better choices for themselves in a caring way. Sylvia served as mentor and developer of many student minds pursuing a career in the behavioral health sciences. Sylvia was a member of many local organizations including the Garden Club, Bridge Club, Baytown Forum, Thursday Forum, and was a familiar face at the PHYSIO Physical Therapy and Wellness Center for the last 15 years. She served on a number of local boards including Friends of Sterling Municipal Library and Goose Creek Country Club. Sylvia was a survivor of polio but did not let that deter her from living a full and active life. She had a zest for life, enjoying fine foods and wines and friendly in-depth conversations. She had a love of all things colorful, from art décor to fashion and jewelry. Having particularly enjoyed travel far and wide, her many passports are full. Sylvia was a lifelong supporter of the arts, attending the Houston Symphony, Opera, Alley Theater, and museums around the world. She had a lifelong love of fishing, spending her childhood summers on Lake Chetec in Wisconsin and, for the last 20 years, Sylvia returned each summer to fish and enjoy her lake cabin in Lac du Flambeau near Minocqua, Wisconsin. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 43 years, Dwight Lohkamp. She is survived by their children Joanna Lohkamp and her partner Bryceon Sumner, of Blaine, WA, and Keith Lohkamp and his wife Wendy, of Oakland, CA, her brothers Ron Cordes and wife Betty, and Lester Cordes III, and five nieces and numerous beloved friends in Texas, Wisconsin and beyond. Francisco Luna Mendoza Francisco Luna Mendoza, 88 was born on November 22, 1935, in Saucillo, Chihuahua. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Estela Elvira Luna, his son Miguel Francisco Luna and wife Josephine, daughter Josefa “Josie” Luna, daughter Elvia Luna-Quinones and life partner Martin Enciso, daughter Graciela Luna-Jaramillo and husband Rafael Jaramillo. He also leaves to cherish his memory 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Brothers Arnulfo, Candido and numerous god children. Francisco retired as a mechanic from Hi-Port Industries after 19 years of service. During his younger years he worked as a bus driver. He retired at the early age of 62 years to enjoy traveling with his family and friends. He also loved fishing, doing mechanics on cars and working on his yard. He was preceded in death by his parents Miguel and Eustolia Luna, daughter Silvia Estela Luna, daughter Maria Delores Luna, sisters Rafaela, Maria de Jesus and Maria Dolores. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521 with a rosary at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1124 Beech Street, Baytown, Texas 77520 at 11:00 am with a graveside service at 12:30 pm at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521.

Johnny had a career in heavy equipment rental and worked for Norman Smith Equipment for 24 years until his retirement in 2012. He was a proud member of the NRA. Johnny enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and restoring old vehicles. He also enjoyed spending time watching NHRA and the Discovery Channel with Coco and Muffin, his beloved fur babies.
