Shirley Ann JuretschkeOf Arlington HeightsIn loving memory of Shirley Ann (nee Kucera) Juretschke, born on February 5,1934, in Chicago, IL to Edward James and Olga (nee Johnson) Kucera. She passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was raised in Oak Park, Illinois and grew up with her brother Ronald. In 1954, she married her husband, Walter, and they soon started a family. Together they raised three wonderful children in their home in Arlington Heights. During her years of raising her children, Shirley spent time working for the Administration Staff at John Hersey High school, while also finding great joy in her hobbies and home making. During the day she was an avid gardener and spectacular cook, while in the evenings you could find her at the bridge table surrounded by friends or cheering on the Cubbies. Always accompanied by her favorite Manhattan. Shirley had an outspoken and strong-willed personality that was hard to miss, paired with wit and humor in her words that kept her loved ones entertained. She placed an importance on family and tradition in her children and grandchildren, with whom her legacy lives on. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and dear friend to many and was loved by all who knew her. Shirley is survived by her children Deborah (Matthew) Smith, Karen (Timothy) Radez and Robert (Linda) Juretschke; her grandchildren Kasey (Nick) Mazariegos, Margot Chatfield, Charlie (Kristina) Smith, Vanessa (Greg) Mohr, Lara (Drew) Price, Mark (Holly) Juretschke, Michael Juretschke and David Juretschke; her great-grandchildren Matux, Maevis, Maggie, Miles, James, Olivia, Giselle and Vivian; as well as her brother Ronald (late Collene) Kucera and several nieces. Shirley's family also wanted to thank her caregivers Paula, Evelyn and Aloma. Her family greatly appreciated the loving care all three of them provided to Shirley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Walter William Juretschke as well as her parents. Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 9:00am until the time of the Memorial Service at 10:30am at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. , 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Graveside Services will follow at 12noon at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, 520 East Grand Avenue, Elmhurst, IL 60126. James "Jim" E. Heffernan, 84, of Oak Park, IL, passed away on August 31, 2023. He was a long-time resident of Oak Park and member of Ascension Parish Jim was born on February 10, 1939, in Chicago, IL, to the late Margaret and Edmond Heffernan. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda (Freidheim) Heffernan, and their children Christopher (Leah), David, and Katherine (Daniel) Hyde as well as his brother Robert. Jim was also a proud grandfather to Charles and Joseph Hyde. He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard and Edmond. Jim grew up in Austin and attended St. Lucy's Parish school and later graduated from Quigley Prep Seminary. He furthered his education at Mundelein College and Loyola University. Jim dedicated his career to public service, working at the US Department of Education - Office for Civil Rights as a supervisor. This work was his passion and mission. Jim was a lifelong Cubs fan so after retirement, he found his "dream job" working for the Chicago Cubs for 2 seasons. He then enjoyed volunteering at St. Leonard's Ministry, Christ the King Jesuit High School, Hines VA and as a Eucharistic minister. He found working in the No Veteran Dies Alone program at Hines particularly satisfying. Jim was a longtime member of Ascension Oak Park, where he worshiped regularly. His strong faith guided him throughout his life. A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Ascension Church on September 30, 2023. The wake will begin at 9:30 am, followed by the service at 10:30 am. Keith T. Burnette, age 81, of Fairborn passed away Monday, September 11, 2023. He was born June 7, 1942 in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Thomas Mitchell, Jr. , and Catherine and Clifford Burnette. Keith received his PhD in electrical engineering from Purdue University and then served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He served as president of Midwest Systems Research (MSR) and later founded his own company, Burnette Engineering, both companies in support of the Air Force mission. He was a longtime member of the West Central Ohio Amateur Radio Association (WCOARA), serving as its president for many years; American Radio Relay League and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was also a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling the country with a goal of visiting every state. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Roberts and Lynne Piziali. Keith is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce, two sons, Brett (Sara) Burnette, and Kreg (Mike Inskeep) Burnette; daughter, Laura Burnette; granddaughter, Rylee Burnette; 2 brother-in-laws, Charles Roberts and Joe Piziali; nephews, Jeff Piziali, Andy (Jamie) Piziali; niece, Leslie (Jeff) Sorensen; as well as extended family and friends. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 2:00 until 4:00 P. M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd. , Fairborn.
