Rita Burns Quick, a cherished resident of Guilford, CT for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on March 2nd, 2024. She departed surrounded by her beloved family and devoted husband after bravely battling Cancer for 28 years.Rita illuminated the world with her warmth, kindness, and was an exceptional mother and "Nannie." She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Mary (Moran) Burns, her brother Lester Burns, Sr., and his wife Shirley (Kamm) Burns, and brother-in-law Kevin Rogers. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Arthur Quick, her sister Susan Burns Rogers, and brother David and Lorraine (Owens) Burns. Rita's legacy continues through her children: Kenneth and Cheryl (Mann) Quick of North Haven, CT, and their sons Owen and Jack; Paula (Quick) and Jeffery Heser of Clinton, CT, and their children Kam and Louis; Brian and Christine (Sousa) Quick of Franklin, MA, and their children Samuel, Julia, and Audrey. Family meant everything to her, especially her seven grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she cherished.Rita was a graduate of West Haven High School and dedicated herself to her children's education, serving as PTA President. She later embarked on a 30-year career at Lester Telemarketing in Branford. Rita and Art enjoyed winters in Jupiter, Florida, they enjoyed fishing off their dock and spending time with friends.In retirement, she embraced her role as "Nannie Quick," sharing her passion for cooking, family gatherings, travel, and card games. Rita was a familiar face at her grandchildren's sporting events and school activities, always cheering them on with unwavering support.Above all, Rita was fiercely loyal, exceptionally generous, and loved her family with all her heart. She encouraged her loved ones to pursue their passions and take pride in their achievements.The Quick/Heser family extends heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support and care received, especially from the doctors and nurses who cared for Rita over the past 28 years. While Rita's physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit of love and dedication to family will endure in our hearts forever.Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Susan Gorry, 102, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Daniel Gorry; born August 15, 1921, in New Haven. She retired in 1996 from CHCP and Yale New Haven after many years as a medical secretary. Daughter of the late Consolato and Santa Morganti Ambrogio. Mother of Maureen Jennett of Madison. Predeceased by her brothers Frank (Rose) Ambrogio and James Ambrogio. Sisters Rose Johnson, Angelina (Fred) Milici and Mary (Robert) Petrillo. Grandmother of Gina (the late Edward) Tierney, David (Dannyse) Quoka, Eric (Gina) Quoka, Paul (Sara) Menga, Jason (Mina) Menga and Brent Jennett. Survived by ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Apple Rehab Guilford. Her family and friends brought the greatest joy in her life. Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the age of 81, Marybeth (Ryan) Buckhoff died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Richard Brian Buckhoff and was known by many as “Biggie”. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.Born on May 17, 1942, in Albany, New York, Marybeth was the daughter of John and Mary Ryan and the sister to Marcia Verville. After graduating from the College of Saint Rose, with a bachelor’s degree in education, she married her husband. Biggie and Brian moved to Connecticut shortly after and were residents of West Haven, Northford, and Guilford.Marybeth was a lifelong educator who taught for over 40 years. She taught reading at Northford Intermediate School and later Algebra and Geometry at North Banford High School where she was affectionately known as Mrs. B. She was a passionate and inspirational teacher and a master of her craft.Marybeth enjoyed reading, writing, and completing crossword puzzles. She remained relevant and engaged. Examples of this include streaming her grandson’s soccer games, facetiming with her great-grandaugther, and banging out texts to her beloved family members. She was razor sharp, had a great sense of humor and was an amazing listener.Above all else, she loved her family and cherished every moment that she could spend with them. She is survived by her children Elizabeth Forbes (Jeffrey) of Branford, Matthew Buckhoff (Helen Tachkov) of Guilford, and David Buckhoff (Holly Grose) of Salem, MA.Biggie proudly left a legacy, her beloved grandchildren, Catie Putney (Frank), Megan Martone (Tyler), Oliver Buckhoff, and Iliana Buckhoff and her great granddaughter Sophie Martone.Throughout her life, Biggie was a compassionate warrior who fought a long and valiant battle against Cancer, beating it multiple times with grace, elegance, and relentlessness. Through it all, she nurtured and protected all of those who were lucky enough to fall within her embrace. Benjamin F. Sylvester Jr.

Benjamin F. Sylvester Jr. of Guilford, a retired history teacher and coach, died February 15, 2024 at age 99 at home. Born in Omaha, Neb., he was the son of Benjamin Sylvester and Ruth Mills Sylvester. A graduate of that city’s Central High School, he was elected to the school’s Hall of Fame. After Army service in World War II, he earned degrees from Harvard University and from St. Catherine's College, Oxford, England, where he was a championship rower and an annual prize is named after him. Mr. Sylvester taught and coached crew at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford for 40 years; the school’s boathouse on Lake Quonnipaug in Guilford is named for him. In 1961, he married the former LeMoyne Dodge, who survives him. He also leaves two children, Benjamin Sylvester III and Nina Healy; and six grandchildren, Ben Sylvester IV, Tyler Sylvester, Toby Sylvester, Norah Healy, Finn Healy, and Aidan Healy.A private graveside service with military honors will take place at North Guilford Cemetery, Guilford. Donna DeCicco was born on July 22, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. The family moved to Staten Island, NY when Donna was a child. Donna passed away on February 8, 2024.Donna was a dramatic, larger-than-life person, who could stop a room when she entered! That was before a horrendous car accident severely limited her world. Trent Jay Liseo, 27 of Guilford, formerly of Hamden, also known as "The Trenster, T, Trentapus, Trentino" passed away unexpectedly at home in his sleep on February 5, 2024. He was born February 7, 1997 in Burlington, VT to Lawrence Liseo Jr. of Guilford and Ellyn M. McDonald of New Haven. Trent grew up in Hamden where he attended school at Dunbar Elementary through Hamden High. Trent enjoyed attending church at Dunbar United Church of Christ. He was attending Gateway Community College where he loved taking classes to better himself. Trent was an accomplished drummer. Anyone who had the opportunity to work with him, musically, could see his need to be the best drummer he could be. He would spend hours every day (driving the family crazy) trying to perfect his skills. He was proud of his gigs at the Webster, Toad's Place and many other venue no matter how small or large and no matter the band he was playing for. He worked at Grand Brass Lamp Parts and enjoyed the friends he made there. He loved disc golf with his friends, and snowboarding, and was looking forward to an upcoming trip to Stratton for his birthday. He was an aficionado of mac and cheese, trinkets, Rock and Roll, Tool, vinyl records, and the color orange. Most of all Trent loved his family. He looked up to his younger sister, Kate Liseo, who always had his back. He enjoyed spending time with his dad, Lawrence, fishing on the Long Island Sound, although the fish seemed to always avoid their lines. He loved his mom, Ellyn, and they spent many nights making homemade ramen and mac and cheese. Recently, they attended a concert in Manhattan that Trent really enjoyed. Trent was funny, silly, kind, and an amazing son, brother, grandson and friend. He was quirky, his own man, and always strived to be better. He wanted to be “The Dude” and was an ordained "Dudiest Priest" (certificate and all). He is survived by his sister, Kate Liseo of Guilford, step-siblings, Abigail and Drew Malton, mother, Ellyn McDonald, father, Lawrence Liseo Jr., stepmother, Tracy Malton, Aunt Suzie McDermott, Uncle Mike McDermott, cousins Caroline and Daniel McDermott, "Crazy Auntie" Robin Liseo and cousin Cory Liseo of Iva, SC, paternal grandparents Lawrence Liseo Sr., Kitty Liseo, Cynthia and Len Matejek all of Tamarac, FL and maternal grandmother, Margaret McDonald of Waterbury along with his pet bearded dragon, "Bazoobala." He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Robert S. McDonald. ? Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 11th, 2024 from 1 - 4 P.M. at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. All are invited to meet and attend a Funeral Service on Monday, February 12th at 11 A.M. in Dunbar United Church of Christ, 767 Benham Street in Hamden with a burial to follow at Alder Brook Cemetery in Guilford. Maryellyn Welch Page, 93, of Guilford passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024 at her home. She was born November 13, 1930, daughter of the late Frank G. Welch and Kathryn Meehan Welch.Maryellyn was the salutatorian of her Guilford High School class and received her B.S. in Zoology from the University of Connecticut. She was a teacher before marrying George W. Page in 1953. After raising her family, she worked with her husband in the family-owned business, Page Insurance, LTD, before retirement. When she was 66 years old, she obtained her pilot’s license and logged thousands of miles on her Piper Cherokee over the years.Maryellyn was predeceased by her husband, George W. Page, who died in 2014 after 60 years of marriage. She leaves behind her daughters, Stephanie Page Bardwell (A. Clifford) New Bern, NC; Charlotte Page Johnston, Monroe; Connie Page Miller, Norfolk, VA; Jennifer Clark Page, Guilford; Sarah Page Kyrcz (Robert), Madison and Martha Page (Frederic Boursier), Warren, ME and sons, George W., Jr., Guilford and Geoffrey Alexander (Natalie), Shoreview, MN. Husband of the late June Marie (Lyne) Londa, Mr. Londa was born in Queens, New York on November 11, 1931, son of the late Albert Londa and Sarah (Tobin) Londa. Loving father of Christopher (Deana) Londa; Matthew Londa; John (Rebecca) Londa; predeceased by three sons, Joseph Londa Jr., Gary Londa, and Edward Londa. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brittany (Alex) Hirsch, Megan Londa, Kelsi Londa, Matthew Londa Jr., Christopher Londa Jr., Mason Londa; and great granddaughters, Isabella Bontempo and Riley Hirsch. Also predeceased by a brother Albert Londa.Mr. Londa's life was marked by honorable service and dedicated commitment. After graduating from Bryant High School, he served his country in the US Air Force, stationed at the Wasserkuppe, Germany radar site. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career, working for New York Telephone and later for SNET as an accounting manager. His professional endeavors were matched by his passion for community service. A longtime member and past president of the Guilford Lions Club, he found joy in giving back and making a positive impact. He will be fondly remembered by his friends and family for his unwavering generosity, wise counsel, and love for life's simple pleasures. Whether traveling, or enjoying the company of loved ones, he approached each moment with dedication and enthusiasm. Tuesday, January 23, 2024 Howard E. Straight, 96, longtime resident of Guilford, passed away at The Guilford House. Mr. Straight was born in Troy, New York on December 1, 1927. He was the son of Howard Straight and Agusta (Orth) Straight and the youngest of eight children. Howard is the father of Carla Straight of Montpellier, VT and step-father of John (late Debbie) Wynne of Guilford and Dolores (James) McSpadden of Geneva, IL. Howard is also survived by five grandchildren: Ashleigh (Joe) Duval, James (Erin) McSpadden, Katherine McSpadden, John (Kara) McSpadden and Emma McSpadden and one great grandchild Madison Rae McSpadden. Howard was predeceased by his wives Ruth Brockett Straight and Dolores M. Wynne Straight.Howard honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Before retirement he worked as a design engineer at the Upjohn Corporation. He enjoyed traveling, wood working, and barbershop singing.A graveside service will be held at the CT State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown on Wednesday, January 31 at 12:00 PM.
