Age - 90

| | | Raymond Joseph Berube, known by all as "Raymo," passed peacefully in the early hours of November 26, 2023, surrounded by immediate family. Raymo was the first son born to Treffle J. Berube and Grace Anna (Lemay) Berube on October 7, 1933, in an area of Lebanon, NH that his parents referred to as Fox Hollow. He is survived by his wife Brenda (Talbott) of almost 50 years (New Years Eve 2023) and their sons/partners Robert, David, and Todd (Erika MacGillivary), grandson Dylan LaBrake (Isabelle Fernandes) and sisters-in-law Rebecca (Talbott) Pleasant and Lori (Talbott) Rodriguez (Arnoldo), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Raymo was predeceased by his parents Treffle and Grace Berube, older sisters Rita Thibault (Henry and son Alan) and Madeline Berube (FL), younger brothers Robert Berube (FL) and John Berube (NC). He was very close to his in-laws, David and Martha (Campbell) Talbott (FL), as well as his Aunt Jeannette Poirier and his Uncle Freddy Lemay of Lebanon. In addition, he was predeceased by treasured, longtime friends Bill Ackerman and Robert Jordan of Enfield and lifelong friends Stanley, Ruth, and Sam Moffitt of Lebanon. Raymo spent his first years in Lebanon, attending local schools before training as a meatcutter while working for Felix Lague of Lague's Market on Court Street. Raymo was soon inducted into the Army in 1953 serving as a Corporal stationed in Korea. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1957, he returned to Lebanon to work at Lague's Market. A short time later, he accepted a meatcutter position at Super Duper Markets, working in their Lebanon and Hanover stores but soon realized that his passion was to own his own meat and deli market, working directly with customers. In 1965 Raymo opened Lockehaven Country Store, next to his home on Crystal Lake in Enfield. Along with his wife and sons, he ran his Enfield store, later relocating his business to a new, larger property on Route 4 in West Canaan, situated across from the Mascoma Valley Regional High School. He truly enjoyed having that one-on-one contact with customers and took great pride in keeping costs down and providing excellent products (e. g. , Lockehaven's renowned deli subs, Western Beef, and homemade salads. ) The store was state and federally inspected/certified for cutting and processing Western beef and pork as well as native beef, hog, deer, bear, and moose. Raymo owned and operated his business for 46 years, selling the property and retiring in 2011. Raymo supported many local charities and school/community events including The Prouty with monetary or in-kind donations. Over these many years, Raymo was appreciative of his employees and was particularly thankful to Thomas Moffit, Deborah Macie, Tonya Prior Belisle, as well as Anne, Nicole, and Sandra Chow. He was honored to be long-term friends with them and with many of his customers. He also wished to remember close friends Paul and Gaby Currier, Kenny and Donna Brazas family, the Stanley/Ruth Moffitt family, as well as his Crystal Lake neighbors Robert/Muriel and Keith Nicholson, Ron McGonis, the Alan/Marilyn Fox family, the Don/Leafie Cantlin family, the Ginny Hartland family, the Charles/Dottie Rhoda and Plichta family, Barbara Alden/Sarah Jeror family, the McIlroy/Schubert/Hartung family, the Hank/Sally Cross family, and the Peter/Marie Moeschen family. Raymo was a charter member (#13) of the Lebanon Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed music and dancing with his wife at the Elks' Saturday night dances, sharing good times with friends. He was known for his every Monday chicken barbeques on Crystal Lake for his family, and friends who happen to stop by. In summer, he loved being at the lake whenever possible and loved doing "cannon ball jumps" off the raft. An avid baseball player when younger, after starting his own business with an 80+ hour work week he had little time to participate. However, when not working he was always ready for an impromptu game of horseshoes, basketball, or poker with his sons or friends. Ultimately, Raymo will be remembered as a warm, kind, and spiritual man who was appreciative of God's many blessings. He was also a loving and faithful husband, an excellent father to three sons, a role model to a grandson, and a loyal supporter of family, friends, his community, and country. He had great humor, a strong moral compass and work ethic, determination, and a positive outlook and zest for life that was absolutely contagious. We ask for privacy to process the loss of our beloved husband and father. Honoring Raymo's wishes, services will be private although a Celebration of Raymo's Life will be held later, and we will provide details in weeks to come. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, Dartmouth Cancer Center, or a charity of your choice.
