Mel also served on the rest home board of Apostolic Christian Highland Oaks for many years in the 1980s. Mel was instrumental in helping each of his children set up businesses and gave them the tools to be successful even without a college education. If you asked Mel, he would tell you the important thing in life is to walk with the Lord. He was a great example of that for 80 years. He was a patient, gentle, and loving man. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Elgin. If you had the privilege to see him at Highland Oaks Rest Home, you would have been blessed to be greeted with a big smile and, "Well, you're looking good!" Even though Alzheimer's robbed him of his precious memories, he still kept his sense of humor and always had a one liner for you. He will be dearly missed. A special thank you, and a debt of gratitude to the excellent staff and nurses at Highland Oaks for their loving care of Mel. His family could rest easy knowing he was exceptionally taken care of.
