Helen L. Platt, 81, of Elgin passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Advocate Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born on October 17, 1941 in Pope County, IL the daughter of Fred & Ruth (Elder) Bates. She was employed by the Illinois Central Service as a bus driver, she was looking forward to retiring after the next school year. She was an active member of the St. Charles Moose Lodge #1368. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and neighbors. She is survived by her daughter Tanya (Gary) Palmer; stepchildren: Chris (Denise) Platt and Cheryl Skinner; 2 granddaughters: Ashley (Ben) Bayer and Erin (Scott) Poppen; 3 great grandsons: Liam, Jaxson and Maverick; 5 step grandchildren: Christian (Carrie) Platt, Kyle(Jessica) Platt, Lindsey (Trevor) Ball, Olivia Platt and Jakob Skinner; and a sister Linda (Chuck) Mennerick. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Carlton "Dave" Platt; a son Todd and a grandson Jacob and 2 sisters: Alice Swinford and Wanda Bowman. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Melvin Schrock (96) of Elgin, IL slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 7, 2023. He was born in Congerville, IL to Jesse and Lillian (Welk) Schrock on April 7, 1927. Melvin married Ada Mae Steffen in 1948 and they had 47 wonderful years together. They opened their hearts and lovingly adopted 4 children as babies. They taught them to love and walk with Jesus. His children feel privileged to have had the honor to call him dad and are so thankful for the love he poured into them. After Ada Mae's passing in 1995, Melvin married Nola Gramm in 1999 and they spent 22 years together traveling and wintering in Florida before her passing in 2021. Their trips included visiting 23 countries. He is survived by his children; Stan (Karen) Schrock of South Elgin, IL, Julie (Jeff) Kellenberger of Elgin, IL; and Sara (Jeff) Dietz of Elgin, IL; Grandchildren; Zachary (Tracy) Schrock, Amanda (Kirk) Schambach, Grant Kellenberger, Aaron (Abigail) Kellenberger, Nathan Kellenberger, Kelsey Kellenberger, Natalie (Walter) Miller, Tonya (Tim) Sauer, Matthew Dietz, Jolene Schrock, and Cody Schrock, and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are stepchildren Barbara (Mike) Prevo of Gridley, IL, and Jaclyn (Jeff) Leman of South Jordan, UT; and their AFS student from Paraguay, Ricardo (Sara) Baez of Normal; stepdaughter in laws, LuAnn (d. Bradley) Gramm of Bloomington, and Louanne (d. Jeffrey Gramm) Umland of Carlock, IL; 13 step grandchildren and, 23 step great grandchildren; one brother, Don Schrock (Lorna) of Morton Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ada Mae (Steffen) in 1995; a son, Grant David Schrock in 2012; and his second wife, Nola in 2021. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Schrock, Grandchildren Matthew, Michael, and Logan Schrock. Also preceding him in death were stepsons Bradley Gramm and Jeffrey Gramm. Melvin was a hardworking, well-known businessman in Elgin. He started his own real estate company, Investor's Realty, in the 1960's and built it to include 4 offices in the Elgin/Hanover Park/Dundee areas. He was among the top 3 brokers in the area for many years. He served as president of the Elgin Area Association of Realtors in 1974 as well as serving as an District VP for the Illinois Association of Realtors. He also instructed hundreds of students at Elgin Community College in the real estate sales program. Mel also served on the rest home board of Apostolic Christian Highland Oaks for many years in the 1980s. Mel was instrumental in helping each of his children set up businesses and gave them the tools to be successful even without a college education. If you asked Mel, he would tell you the important thing in life is to walk with the Lord. He was a great example of that for 80 years. He was a patient, gentle, and loving man. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Elgin. If you had the privilege to see him at Highland Oaks Rest Home, you would have been blessed to be greeted with a big smile and, "Well, you're looking good!" Even though Alzheimer's robbed him of his precious memories, he still kept his sense of humor and always had a one liner for you. He will be dearly missed. A special thank you, and a debt of gratitude to the excellent staff and nurses at Highland Oaks for their loving care of Mel. His family could rest easy knowing he was exceptionally taken care of. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 10:00 a. m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, Elgin. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday night, December 11, 2023, from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Center, 2740 W. Dennis Paul Kittler, 74, was called to Heaven on Tuesday, December 2, 2023, in Elgin, ILDennis is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Beverly Kittler, daughter, Tamara(Kieran) Stout, sons, Paul & Michael Kittler, grandchildren, Kierstin, Abigail & OwenStout, sister, Diane (Bill) Wideman, brother-in-law, Gary Schmidt, nieces, JenniferWideman, Laura (Danny) Hancock, Molly (Adrian) Quinn & Brionne (William)Beckman. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Harry (Maj USA) & Lorraine Kittler, in-laws, Carl & Marcella Schmidt, brother-in-law, Roger Schmidt, sister-in-law, Eileen Schmidt, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Born in Oak Park, Dennis moved with his family to Milwaukee, Chicago, Okinawa, andfinally settled in Elmhurst, where he was a 1968 graduate of Immaculate ConceptionHigh School. In 1970, as a night manager at Arby's, Dennis met a persistent customer who became his futurewife. They were engaged a short time thereafter. Dennis was a devout Catholic and proud member of the Knights of Columbus, rising to the rank of 4th Degree Knight. Dennis was a soft spoken man, with a smile that could light up the room. He lovedbeing around family and friends. Dennis especially loved being a Papa to his threegrandchildren. Joyce Ann Matson was born in Chicago, IL, as Joyce Ann Sturgeon on May 14, 1946. Her parents were Arthur Sturgeon and Evelyn (Vollert) Sturgeon, and she has one younger brother, Donald Sturgeon. Joyce graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1971. She married Lawrence Edward Matson on June 12, 1971, and had two children. Her eldest child, Russell (Russ) Edward Matson, was born on November 8, 1976, and her daughter, Catherine (Cathy) Ann Matson, was born on August 27, 1979. Early in her career, she worked as a computer programmer before taking time off to be a homemaker and raise her children. Later in life, as her children grew up, she sold real estate for a few years and became an office manager of different real estate agencies until she retired when her first grandson was born. Zachary Lawrence Matson was born on July 9, 2000, the son of Cathy Matson. She then had two more grandsons from Russ and Stacey Matson. Aidan Thomas Matson was born on May 24, 2006, and Tommy Edward Matson on January 28, 2009. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend to many. She was a huge sports fan and loved watching the Chicago Cubs and the University of Iowa, Hawkeyes. You could always hear her cheering and yelling when her teams scored! Since the passing of her husband, she has embraced her friends and enjoyed playing Bingo, participating in weekly bible studies, visiting with her friends, and spending time with her family. She is known for being kind, thoughtful, and an excellent listener. Her friends and family will miss her terribly and never forget the kindness shown to all. Her family and friends will forever be grateful for the gift of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Evelyn Sturgeon, and her husband, Larry Matson, and survived by her brother, Don Sturgeon, her son, Russ Matson (Stacey), her daughter, Cathy Matson, and her three grandsons whom she loved and adored, Zach, Aidan, and Tommy Matson. Born April 20, 1961; passed away on November 5, 2023, at the age of 62. It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that the passing of Don is shared. Don leaves behind a legacy of love and care that will forever be remembered by his family and friends. Don is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda; Linda and Don's feline pet Shay-la; Don's sisters, Joanne (Pete), Linda, and Mari; Don's nieces Kristyn, Karley (Matt) and Danielle (Jeff); Don's nephews Robbie (Nichole) and Jordan (Emily); Don's great niece, Lily; Don's great nephews, Brendan, Liam, and Milo; Don's sister-in-law Marybeth and countless friends including Mike F. , Fred, Brian, Mike A. , Fran, Sandy, Larry, Timmy, Sherry, Sean, Jim, and Tim. Don was preceded in death by his amazing parents, Marian and Roy and wonderful brother, Tom. Don and Linda were married July 30, 1983, and were best friends and sweethearts for over 40 years. "Sweetheart," as Linda would call Don; "Chief or Sweetheart," as Don would call Linda were inseparable spending time together on walks, bicycling, gardening, trips to Lake Geneva, music festivals, car shows and shopping. They made each other cards for Holidays and Birthdays. They were happiest just spending time in the evening watching TV together and hanging out with Shay-la. Don and Linda enjoyed ordering out for special occasions and were happy just to spend the special occasion or holiday together with each other (& Shay-la). Don loved to cook, grill, bake, listen to music, watch football/golf/horse races/hockey, Lifetime movies on TV with Linda, play golf with his golf buddies and work at Randall Oaks Golf Club. He was a devoted "pet father" in the love and care he had towards Shay-la. He had a passion for detailing cars (their own and for friends and family). Don was an amazing man, Linda's very best friend and the love of her life. Don excelled at everything he did whether coming up with new cooking recipes, playing high school basketball, pitching for his college baseball team, golf, or bowling (bowling an 800 series!). He had a definite knack for technology and electronics. There was nothing that he could not do. Don was a very kind man who would do anything to help a friend, family member or even someone he did not know. Don was a devoted husband, feline father, friend, and family member who loved his family and friends. Don was always there when you needed him. Linda is so grateful he was in her life. They remained together through everything that came their way. Linda will be grateful for the day she sees him again and can spend eternity with him. Leroy "Skip" E. Mueller Jr. , age 64, of West Dundee, Illinois went to his heavenly home on Friday, November 10, 2023. He was born June 6, 1959 in Park Ridge to Barbara (McDonald) and Leroy E. Mueller Sr. He grew up in Arlington Heights with his sisters, Sandy and Leanne. His Grandma Mueller played a big role in his childhood. Skip earned the level of Eagle Scout and enjoyed playing baseball as a boy. He later coached his children in baseball and softball. On April 14, 1984 he married Cathy Flagg. Together they raised their children in Elk Grove Village before moving to West Dundee. Skip loved Cathy's job as a Flight Attendant. He was often heard saying "Marry me, fly free. " Skip was a jack of all trades. Throughout his life he had many professions starting as a young boy delivering the Herald newspapers. He had several printing jobs and then made the jump to truck driving. He eventually went into business for himself, creating Mueller Services Ltd. He was a business owner for almost 40 years. He worked with his son, Jonathan, and then transitioned the business to him. As Jonathan took on a great role it allowed Skip to focus his attention on a new business. His love for driving a semi "drove" him to start his own trucking company. When Skip wasn't hard at work, he loved family vacations but truly enjoyed their trips to Hawaii. Skip's faith was important to him and he played an active role as Vice President at his former church, St. Peter's in Arlington Heights. He was also a loving husband and a proud dad and grandpa. Skip is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Cathy; his children, Hilary Mueller and Jonathan Mueller; his grandson, Noah; his sisters, Sandy (Bill) Dean and Leanne Sutton; his mother-in-law, Elaine Flagg and the rest of his Michigan family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Barbara Mueller. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, November 16 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. , Crystal Lake. A Funeral Service will be held at 9am on Friday, November 17 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 S. McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake. After graduating from Lane Technical High School in 1964, Rodney served as an Army Radio Teletype Operator during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. His commitment to military communications showcased his dedication to the safety of his fellow soldiers. Following his honorable military service, Rodney pursued a successful career as a draftsman, gaining respect for his precision, attention to detail, and artistic talent. He made significant contributions to various projects throughout his career. Rodney Kuehn was a loving brother, a cherished uncle, and a source of strength to those fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, warm smile, sense of humor, and unwavering support touched the hearts of those around him. Whether enjoying crossword puzzles, old movies, cheering for the Bears, spending time with friends and family or appreciating classical movie soundtracks, Rodney found joy in life's simple pleasures. A true history buff, his intellect and understanding of the past made him a highly sought-after teammate during family trivia games. Rodney's legacy will live on in the memories and hearts of those he leaves behind. Linda Leigh Ellett (nee Glasshagel) left this world much too soon on October 27th, 2023 at the age of 64 with her only child, daughter Jessica Ellett, at her side. Linda was the daughter of Erwin Glasshagel Sr. , and Ann (nee Jorgensen) born on January 4th, 1959. She was one of eight siblings, and was preceded in death by Ronald, Cheryl, Charles, and Steven Glasshagel, as well as Sandra Hoagland. Linda was an Elgin native, and worked at a number of Elgin businesses such as Crest Photo Lab, Gromers, Eagle Foods, Butera, and was a school bus driver for U46 for a number of years. She was married for a number of years to James Ellett, and had their only child, Jessica. She never met an animal she didn't love, and had a contagious laugh. She loved music with a passion, and managed to see nearly all her favorite artists in concert. She enjoyed traveling, helping others, spending time with friends, and walking her dogs. She was a beloved friend to many, and touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She is survived by her two elder brothers Erwin, and Michael Glasshagel, her daughter Jessica Ellett, as well as several nieces & nephews, and extended family. She had a large network of friends whom were close to her heart right till the end. Services will be determined at a later date in 2024.
