"Helen A. Lander, 88, passed on Sunday, September 10, 2023 (Grandparents Day!!) at the Shook Home. She was born August 18, 1935 in Lebanon, PA. She was the daughter of the late Mary and Charles Hartman. She is survived by sister, Marilyn Mohl (Anthony) and sister-in-law, Joyce Hartman, her children: Cynthia Messinger (Glen), Stephen Lander (Sandy), Barbara Frelin (Ty), Carolyn Fillard (Will), and Susan McCurdy (Pat), 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, James (Jim), daughter Diane, sister Christine, sister Lucille, and brother Bruce. Helen was a devoted and kind mother to her six children. She made a "mean" cheese pie for all birthdays. . . . and that's a lot of birthdays! While raising her children she was an extraordinarily hard worker both in the home and in the community. With her friends, she founded a nursery and preschool and affectionately became known as "Mommy Lander". She was actively involved in Corpus Christi Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Cantor, choir member and religious education teacher. As evidenced by her service to children, she also founded the "Elizabeth Ministry," ministering to new mothers in the Church. Helen had a beautiful voice and loved to sing! She and her husband were members of the Chambersburg Band and Chorus, "Sounds of the Decades". . . . they even recorded an album! Not only could Helen sing, she could dance, and man, could she "cut a rug". . . dancing her way into her senior years. At the Shook Home, Helen radiated joy and happiness to all of her friends. From start to finish, in true Helen-fashion, she touched the lives of everyone around her! A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a. m. on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. There will be a visitation from 10:30 a. m. - 11:15a. m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. "
