Helen J. Conard, 79, of East Salem, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at her home with her family by her side Born Nov. 4, 1939, in Newport, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Ida I. (Bell) Hostler. Her husband of 17 years, Donald L. Conard, whom she married July 23, 1994, died on June 5, 2011. She is survived by six children, Robert Speece and wife, Tammy, of Thompsontown, Ed Speece and wife, Bess, of Mifflintown, Randy Speece and wife, Mary, of Thompsontown, Gary Speece and wife, Teresa, of Richfield, Dianne Kerstetter and husband, Randy, of East Salem, and Doug Speece and wife, Beth, of Mifflintown; one step-daughter, Kimberly Ressler and husband, Robert of Berks County, one sister, Lillian Reisinger of Duncannon, one brother, John Hostler of Texas, 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Helen graduated from Juniata Joint High School. She worked for various local garment factories and then at Schlegel's Store until she retired. Her family was a big part of her life and was very important to her. She loved going shopping and cleaning, decorating, and taking care of her home. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Nick Smith officiating. Interment will be in East Salem Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at the funeral home.
