Helen Seger ChaixLifetime Resident of AlamedaJan 30, 1927 - Sept 29, 2023Well known and proud Alamedan , Helen passed away after a short illness, surrounded by family and close friends in her home of 96 years. Born and raised in Alameda, Helen attended St. Joseph Grammar school and graduated from Alameda High School. Her mother was a local dance instructor, and she shared her mother's passion for ballet. She married her husband George in 1953 and they owned and operated George Chaix Liquor for many years. She served as President of the St. Joseph's PTG and was one of the founding members of the Encinal High School Booster Club. She and George also were supporters of the St. Joseph Pilots basketball program. Helen was preceded in death by her husband George and son Dan. She is survived by her daughters Adrienne Alexender and her husband Roger, Michele Bonner and her husband Larry and beloved grandchildren Garrett and Christopher Bonner. Mumsy, as she was affectionally known by family, friends and neighbors, will be missed for her generous and fun-loving spirit. Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary on Sunday, October 8th at 2pm at Alameda Funeral and Cremation Service 1415 Oak St Alameda and Mass on Monday, October 9th at 10am at St Albert the Great, 1022 Holly St. , Alameda. Patricia Marie Prindle passed peacefully through the veil into life with her beloved husband and many family members and to see her Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of June 15, 2023. Patricia Marie Barker Prindle was born July 6, 1926 in Alameda, California to John Carroll Barker and Lelah Emaline Robertson Barker. She joined her older sister, Jeanne Inez Barker. Shortly, after being born, the family returned to Portland, OR. They again went to California for the weather to help with father's health when she was about 2. The family returned for last time to Portland before she started school, at Marysville Elementary. The family moved often during her childhood, but not far from Grandma Tina's home on Liebe St. Her mother worked out of the home, due to her father's Acute Bronchial Asthma from mustard gas in WWI. She loved to read and climb trees. She had cousins in the neighborhood to share her years. She attended Clinton Kelly High School of Commerce to learn secretarial skills to be prepared to work following graduation in 1944. She went to Galveston, TX in November 1944 to meet Virgil McB Prindle on shore leave from the Us Navy, where they married. She returned to Portland. They had a short time in San Diego before he sailed out to service in the Pacific Theater aboard to USN LSM 92. Upon the end of WWII, they settled in Vanport, OR before it flooded. They then relocated to Seattle for Virgil to attend U of W. While in Seattle, she worked I a an office between having four little ones. After Virgil graduated with a teaching certificate, they moved to Longview, WA. Two years later, they moved to Kelso to be near the Kelso High School where Virgil taught. Pat had two more children after moving to Kelso. She was known for her bread baking for her family. She worked part-time at the Kelso Central Christian Church as their secretary for about six years. She then worked for Jansen Flowers, and finally ended up working for Longview Fibre Company where she retired in 1982. She loved to sew, make jam, and canned for her family for many years. She lead a 4-H sewing group with her older daughters and their friends. She volunteered with the Cowlitz County Textiles and Dewing Group. She enjoyed helping teach children to sew. Her love of handwork was realized as she made quilted wall hangings and quilts. She also crocheted wool-strip rugs which is becoming a lost art. Church activity held high priority in her life. She served in Sunday School teaching young children. She taught Young women locally and served on the Stake Board for Young Women. She also served as President of the Relief Society for all women in her ward. During retirement, Pat and Virgil served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. (Nauvoo, IL, Rochester, New York, and Fresno, CA) They also served for two years assisting the congregation in Cathlamet, WA. Her lifelong desire was serving her Heavenly Father along with Virgil. She had a great love for Jesus Christ, her Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jeanne Walser; her daughter, Linda Lea Prindle Park; and great grandsons, Gabriel Plourd and Jonathan Reed. She is survived by her children, Michael Warren Prindle (Elaine) of Kelso, Kathleen Lynn Gibson (James) of Fruitland, ID, Janneth Diane Laurion of Kalama, WA, John Christopher Prindle (Coleen) of Longview, and Elizabeth Ann Bonnett (David) of Kelso. She has about 30 grandchildren, about 70 great-grandchildren, and about 7 great-greats. She is also survived by four niece and two nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. She will be interred at a family burial the morning of June 26, 2023. Kenn was born on April 22, 1928, in Alamosa, Colorado. He would help his uncles on their potato farms in Center, Colorado until his family moved to Vallejo, California when he was 12. In 1946, Kenn enlisted in the Army as a Radar Navigation Mechanic rising to the level of Corporal. He was stationed at the Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS where he met Ermalee at a Halloween dance in 1948. Kenn was playing his sax in the Air Force Band and Ermalee came as a USO volunteer, and they were married that Christmas Eve. Kenn then left for duty in Jamaica until his Honorable Discharge in March of 1949. Kenn got a job at the Alameda Naval Air Base and they moved to Alameda Naval housing in 1955. In 1958, they bought their forever home in Alameda where Kenn lived until his passing. Kenn retired from the Air Base in 1983 as an Electronic Technician. He became bored with retirement and worked part-time at various companies until finally retiring for good at the age of 82. Kenn and Ermalee loved to Ballroom dance before her diagnosis of dementia in her late 80s. Kenn played baritone sax in the Alameda Community Band for 30+ years until his COPD prevented him from playing but continued to enjoy their performances and support them to the very end. Kenn also enjoyed woodworking, Ham radio, camping and watching all aircraft, especially the Blue Angels. Kenn has requested that there be no service. Kenneth Gordon Hess, a long time Alameda resident, passed away peacefully on 11/26/2023 at the age of 95. He was a loving husband to Ermalee and devoted father to Beverlee Hess Fahey (Dan) and Carol Hess. In addition to his daughters, Kenn is survived by his brother Harold Hess and several nieces and nephews. Georgia LazarakisJuly 3, 1926 - November 23, 2023Georgia Lazarakis (Sarantos) died peacefully in Danville, CA on Thursday morning, November 23, 2023. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Tom and Bessie Sarantos. Born and raised in Oakland as a first-generation Greek-American, her life was guided by the traditions of the Greek Community and the Orthodox Church. She graduated from Oakland Technical High, attended Merritt Business College, and began her career in the accounting department of Safeway Stores. In January, 1950, she married Sam Lazarakis, moving to San Francisco to start a family and continue her career with the City of Paris department store. After the birth of her two sons, John and Tom, she transitioned to a full time Mother / Housewife. In the early 60's she and the family returned to her beloved Oakland. From an early age, Georgia developed into an expert seamstress. She was quite talented and continued her hobby through most of her life, making clothes for herself, family members, and even dresses for her niece's dolls. She was also an avid baker, honing her skills on the many delicious Greek desserts. Family and friends would relish the packages of cookies and sweets they would receive from her during the holidays. Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Sam, and her son Tom. She is survived by her son John (Sara) and Son-in-Law Michael Robb. Beloved yiayia to Danielle Lazarakis and Michael Lazarakis (Kristina), Great Grand Mother to Elliot and Alexander Lazarakis. She will be missed by her nieces Vicky McCuaig (Don), Froscene Phillips-Maniatis (Jim), Sister-in-Law Georgia Lazarakis and nephews John and Sam Lazarakis (Martha) and all their children. The Trisagion service will be Monday, December 4 at 7:00pm. The Funeral service, Tuesday, December 5 at 12:00 PM. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jo Ann Teixeira, 89, of Arroyo Grande, California. Jo Ann died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 21, 2023. Jo Ann was born on November 6, 1934, to Oliver Bailey Hudson and Marie Antoinette Panella in Alameda, California. She attended Santa Maria High School where she met her husband, Edwen "Ed" Richard Teixeira. They were married on December 12, 1951. They raised three children together in Santa Maria and moved to the property of their dreams in Arroyo Grande in 1979. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, her parents Oliver and Marie "Tootsie" Hudson, and her siblings, Bailey Hudson, Ron Hudson, and Teri Hudson. She is survived by her children Randy (Cathy) Teixeira, Kim (Charlie) Litten, and Rick (Brenda) Teixeira, as well as her grandchildren Cheyann, Nicole, Lacy, Justine, Ricky, Christine, Michael, and Nicholas, seven great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law: Celeste Hudson, Chris Hudson, Lori Sitzwohl, Beverly Moss, and numerous nieces and nephews. In the early years, she worked as a secretary at Camp Cook (Vandenberg) where she was adored by the Colonel and was prized for her typing skills. In the mid-1960s she joined the charitable Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she served a term as president and was Queen of the Valentine's Ball. She was part of the Santa Maria High School Alumni Association for the class of 1951 and helped organize class reunions. In the late 1970s, she bowled in a league at Rancho Bowl. She was a competitive bowler with a stack of trophies and pins. She was a board member of the Santa Maria Valley Pioneer Association and looked forward to the annual picnics. After Ed's passing, she enjoyed traveling, often with the "Hobos," many of whom had been friends since high school, making it as far as China. For the past fifteen years, she hosted a weekly card game at her house with her closest friends. Jo Ann was a talented artist who enjoyed making gifts for her family and friends. She was a skilled leather tooler. She enjoyed building and refinishing furniture, making toy boxes and doll chests, cabinets, headboards, and blanket racks. There were no items she could not build. For years she painted signs of all sizes for friends, family, and businesses, and sold Jo T Country Craft items at local bazaars. Jo Ann loved to make all different types of Christmas items out of wood. For the past 20 years she hand-painted a new Santa ornament for each of her children, which will be cherished forever. A graveside service will take place at the Santa Maria Cemetery on Thursday, November 30th at 10am, with a reception to follow.Show more
