Helen Baran Obituary

Helen B. Baran, 97, passed away on May 9, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born in West Wyoming, PA, on December 3, 1925, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Bohac Prywara. Helen was a 1943 graduate of West Wyoming H. S. and in 1947 was awarded her R. N. Degree from General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Helen was working as a flight attendant for American Airlines out of LaGuardia Airport when she met her husband, Walter and they were united in marriage on June 25, 1949 in Pennsylvania. Together they shared a loving union of 50 years until his death on November 5, 1999. After moving to the area, Helen worked at Faxton Hospital in their surgery and emergency room. She went on to earn her nurse clinician degree from Community General Hospital in Syracuse and prior to her retirement in 1980, was employed with Dr. Theodore Thomas. In her later years, she loved to travel, visiting many different countries. Many of Helen's fondest memories were from the times spent at Kayuta Lake with her husband and friends and later with her cherished grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter; Beverly Baran, her son and daughter in law; Bruce and Jayne Baran and her grandchildren; Nicholas Baran and Kira Baran. Helen was predeceased by her brothers; George and John Prywara. Services will be held at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Clayville.
