There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Johnnie Ruth (Porter) Ivy passed away on November 29, 2023, in Waco Texas, surrounded by loved ones in body and spirit, aged 94 years. Johnnie Ruth (Porter) Ivy was born on June 9, 1929, In Moody Texas. She was an adventurous soul from the start, a feisty young woman with a wonderful sense of humor. . . . . Johnnie spotted Travis Ivy at Cousin's Filling Station in Waco, and they married thirteen days later, after a whirlwind romance. Fortune smiled on the young lovers, and they forged a strong partnership that survived the challenges of a young Navy officer's life and five children. Johnnie was fierce and brave and this served her well, as she became head of the family every six months while Travis went to sea; and she moved the family many times over the course of his career, from Texas to California and Tennessee and points in between. The couple forged lifetime friendships and raised a family of feisty and strong children known for their indomitable spirits and can-do attitudes. The couple loved to dance together, loved their children and their many pets. Between Travis' ability to build or fix anything, and Johnnie's ability to manage him and his projects, they were a force to reckon with. Johnnie and Travis moved back to Texas after his retirement from the Navy, where they owned Leroy Store and Gas, and later an antique store. Johnnie had an amazing knowledge of antiques. She was revered among her own children and grandchildren for her uncanny ability to pack, tetris-like, furniture and clothing into any space. Johnnie is survived by five children, Shelia Eyers, Belinda Fischer, Devorah Sellers, Janie Niemeyer, and Barret Ivy; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild (and one on the way); one sister Frances Jeske; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Johnnie passed away just a day after her 78 th wedding anniversary, and was preceded in death by her beloved Travis in 2016 To plant Memorial Trees in memory of , please .Show more
