Harry was born in Wells Township on February 24, 1927, the son of the late Harry and Eva Lowery Barton Helsel. He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Mary E. Marianette Edwards, 81, of Saxton passed away at UPMC Altoona Tuesday evening February 20, 2024 after a brief illness with all her children by her side. Born Sept 16, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Thelma (George) Poblett of Baltimore. On May 18, 1963 she was united in marriage to the late Jack R. Edwards of Saxton. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her three sons W. Keith Edwards (husband of Kelly) of Etters, Gary and David Edwards both of Saxton, two daughters, Karen Edwards Snuffer (companion Damon) of York Haven and Rhonda Edwards (companion Ronnie) of Defiance. Mrs. Edwards also have eight grandchildren: Daphne Edwards (fiancé’ Ryan), Alyssa Zelanko (companion Seth), Josh Edwards (husband of Jordan), Keasha Bollman (wife of Jordan), Jared Edwards (husband of Hannah), Morgan Snuffer, Nolan Snuffer, and Ronald Zelanko Jr. and (3) great-grandchildren Kole and Laeklyn Miller and Jayde Edwards. Mrs. Edwards is also survived by (4) siblings, Hazel Marie Miller, Thelma Skopp, Albert “Bud” Poblett (husband of Donna), and Wayne Poblett (husband of Gloria), all of Baltimore, Maryland and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Marianette was preceded in death by son Curtis Edwards, granddaughter Amber Edwards and three siblings, her twin Grover “Butch” Poblett, Donald Poblett Jr (husband of Sandy), and Vergie Theis. Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker who had a heart of gold and spent most of her adult life taking care of the elderly in their home. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing, doing puzzle books, listening to Elvis, and having her cats. She also enjoyed visiting her son at the campground in Goldboro, her daughter in York Haven and taking trips with her sons visiting different states. Friends and family will be received Friday, February 23, 2024 from 1:30 to 3:00 at Akers Funeral Chapel, Inc, 715 Church Street Saxton, Pa 16678 Funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Speck officiating. Mildred L. Smith passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 peacefully at home. She was born December 7, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland and was a 1946 graduate of Everett High School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, William F. Smith; parents, David A. Spamer and Lillian Smelz Spamer; step-mother Marjorie Spamer; step-father Paul F. Anstine; Son Bernard W. Smith; son-in-law Charles J. Meloy; granddaughter Heidi L. Klahre; and siblings Elizabeth (Bette) Aquiar; David A. Spamer; and Paul E. Anstine Jr. She is survived by her children, Elsie (Charles) Meloy and Sandra (Kenneth R.) Klahre and daughter-in-law Ruth (Venglik) Smith; sister Mary Johnson and brother George (Tom, married to Laura) Spamer; sister-in-law Ella Bussard; as well as grandchildren Sherri (Dirk) Smith; John R. (Ginny) Meloy, William E. Klahre, Brianne N. (Brent) Brennan, and great-grandchildren Jenni Meloy, Annika Meloy, Mazie Smith, Declan Smith, Betsy Brennan, Blake Brennan, and Belle Brennan; great-great grandchildren Silas Woodson and Ruby Mueller; and numerous nephews and nieces. Mildred retired from the Lion Manufacturing Company after 26 years. She attended Community Grace Church. She loved quilting, sewing and crocheting. The family would like to thank Dr. Baer, nurses Kaitlyn Grimes, Stacey Crissy, and caregivers Chelsea Morral, Dana Lowe and Jamie Stiffler for their loving and compassionate care. Dolores Ann "Sis" (Baughman) Mears, 94, of the Village at Morrisons Cove formerly of Spring Street, Saxton, PA; went home to be with the Lord Christmas morning at 8:05 A.M. She was born on June 3, 1929 in Stonerstown a daughter of the late Charles I. and Annie Belle (Hoover) Baughman. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was united in marriage to Robert D. Mears at the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren on July 24, 1949. Mr. Mears preceded her in death on April 6, 2014. She is survived by daughters Cynthia Watkins wife of Thomas of Broad Top and Melissa Wyles wife of William of Saxton; grandchildren Laurie Watkins of Broad Top, Amy Watkins and fiance Bryan Guerrisi of Marietta, PA, Mandi Foor wife of Bradley, Breezewood, Tyson Wyles husband of Kayla of Export and Ashley Heeter wife of Ryan of Saxton; great grandchildren Abigail Brown wife of Ron, Bryson, Bennett and Alexander Guerrisi, Ryleigh and Karlee Foor, Jaxon and Olivia Wyles and Finley Heeter; and twenty-six nieces and nephews. She also had two special nephews on the Mears side that she was very close to who called her regularly to keep in touch, Richard and Robert. She was preceded in death by sisters Evelyn McClay, Catherine "Noon" Pinkerton, Edna Amick, Betty Roland and brothers Pete, Bobby "Coon", G. Daniel, Clair "Dutch", Donald, Harold and infant Charles. She attended Stonerstown Church of the Brethren her entire life and was the oldest living member. She was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School Class of 1947. Dolores worked for Thomas and Hitchens Dental Lab, Dixons Riverside and Retired from the Saxton IGA in 1994. She enjoyed family beach trips and camping with friends and attending family picnics. Sis was an avid Steeler and Penn State Nittany Lions Fan, watching all their games. She also enjoyed Major League Baseball games and watching the Little League World Series. She spent most of the warm months sitting on her patio watching the birds and rabbits. She loved her family and will be missed by many family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mary Garvey officiating. Friends and Family will be received on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the church. Burial will be held privately at Dudley Methodist Cemetery. She was born on July 24, 1939; a daughter of the late David and Frances (Swartz) Coy. She was united in marriage to John D. "Moose" Risbon. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2015. She is survived by two daughters: Charlene F. Risbon of Saxton and Anna Marie Watson of Coalmont; three grandchildren: Shawn M. Brode married to Scarlett, Saxton, PA; Natasha Zdrosky married to Timothy, Dudley, PA and Johnathan Watson; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, Cecilia Gracie. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Brode. She was a graduate of Robertsdale High School. Throughout her career she worked at Howard Johnson, Big "D" Discount Store, Seton Manufacturing, and Quality Manufacturing. She liked going to casinos, traveling, fishing, yard sales and above all spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed and loved very much. Grover K. Mills, 92, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Colonial Courtyard surrounded by his family. He was born on August 30, 1931 in Monroe Township, a son of the late Reid and Belle (Miller) Mills. He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Roxanna (Cornell) Mills, whom he was united in marriage to on August 27, 1954 in Winchester, VA. Along with his wife, he is survived by three daughters Karla Levy married to Jim, Karen Glah married to Jim and Rhonda Barkman formerly married to Tom. He was such a proud "pap" of his five grandchildren Jim Levy married to Becky, Josh Levy married to Jackie, Jarod Bowers married to Marissa, Cole Barkman married to Amber and Rachel Gibbons married to Brian; and he was affectionately known as "Pappy Grover" to his seven great grandchildren Millie, Lyla, Kenzie, Colin and Grant Levy, Maximus Barkman and Audrey Gibbons. He is also survived by siblings Marjorie Robinette, Lulabelle Ramsey, Alton Mills and brother-in-law Lynn Cornell. He was preceded in death by brother Teo Mills, brothers-in-law Theodore Ramsey and Junior Robinette and sisters-in-law Linda Mills and Lurain Cornell. Grover was employed with Bedford County Oil for thirty-eight years as a truck driver. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Chapmans Run Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting when he was younger; traveling with "mom", and woodworking, but his greatest enjoyment came from being with his family. He will forever be loved and missed for his kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness and that "laugh". He was always more concerned with others than himself. A special thank you - first to the staff of Victoria House at Spring House Estates and the staff in the memory care unit at Colonial Courtyard. James Raymond Blackstone, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved most. He was known for his great sense of humor and words of wisdom. He would befriend anyone he met. He married Debra Ann (Foor) on May 6, 1982. They had three children Adam, Aerin and Daniel. He had four grandchildren Alex, Katana, Abel and Gauge. He had many special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He had a special great niece Aleah, his "Aleah Pet" that helped take excellent care of him along with his sister-in-law Dotty. He is also survived by four siblings Steve (Cindy) Blackstone, Tammy (Steven) Hoover, Samuel (Debbie) Blackstone and Melody (William) Harris all whom he shared a great bond with.
