She was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA. for many years and loved serving her Lord and Savior. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. A fabulous baker, Mom was legendary for her Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge and Apple Cake. There was love in every dish she prepared. Everyone who knew Mom loved her. She was the kindest, gentlest, sweetest and humblest person you would ever have the pleasure of knowing. She loved her family more than anything and was always supportive and encouraging. She celebrated every accomplishment with great pride but was also the soft place to fall when things were tough. Even on her roughest days, she never complained. You could ask her how she's doing and there were one of three answers. . . "I'm fine", "Everything's lovely" or "Wonderful. "Mom leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 79 years, Lonnie "Pete" Belangia, daughters Marsha Stevens (Omar) of Deltona, FL. and Cynthia Cordova (Gary) of Catlett, VA. "Our legacy is really the lives we touch, the inspiration we give, altering someone's plan-if even for a moment-and getting them to think, cry, laugh, argue. More than anything we are remembered for our smiles; the ones we share with our closest and dearest, and the ones we bestow on a total stranger, who needed it right then, and God put you there to deliver. Donald Brown

Donald Brown

Age - 84

November 29, 2023

Donald Francis Brown, 84, passed away November 26, 2023. He was in the presence of loved ones. Donald was born in Rich Square, North Carolina to the late James E. Brown and Margaret Lambeth Brown Bridgers. He spent his life in service, first to his country in the U. S. Air Force, and then in the Commonwealth as a Virginia State Trooper for 32 years. Donald achieved the rank of Lieutenant, helped an unknowable number of people, and always upheld the honor of his organization, state and country. He was justifiably proud of his time as a trooper and spoke with affection about those with whom he served. Donald was a faithful, baptized Christian and served his community as a Deacon in the Baptist Church. Donald loved a lot in life. He received lots of joy from playing, watching, and officiating sports and he was an unapologetic UNC supporter. He loved golf trips with his state police buddies, refining his swing, and getting the best deals on fancy golf clubs. He loved both playing and watching football and basketball. He also enjoyed refereeing rec league and high school basketball. His favorite place to travel was the Golf Capital of the World, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There he enjoyed early morning ocean swims, good eating restaurants and of course, golf. He enjoyed Saturday afternoon outings to the local hot dog house. He loved playing UNO, watching a good western, or catching up on the latest news. Donald was quick to recall statistics and information from a football game or a newspaper article he read, and he enjoyed following state and national politics. As a lawman, he saw right and wrong clearly and he conveyed what he understood of the world with humility. His good nature was infectious, and he brought joy to those who knew him. Donald truly enjoyed spending time with family, especially his precious grandchildren. Above all, Donald loved sharing and throughout his life he shared what he loved with the people he loved. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 60 years, Freda Stallings Brown; daughter, Deborah and her husband Paul Mancini; son, Donald F. "Don" Brown, Jr. and his wife Shelia; and his grandchildren, Ric, Kent, Gareth, Chase, Ainsleigh and Marley. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd. Chesapeake on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1:00 pm. A service to celebrate his life will begin at 2:00 pm.
