Saratoga Springs, NY- Patricia Noel MacMasters born on March 6, 1929, God so loved Pat that He took her home on St. Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14, 2024.Showing God's love was the way Pat lived her life. She was the consummate care giver. Taking care of her younger siblings and helping out at Hickey's service station taught Pat how to multi-task with love and patience. She applied both interchangeably whether you were family, friend, or stranger. She loved babies, loved being Gramma Pat. She often had her grandchildren at her home, feeding and changing and loving on them. Unconditional love is Pat’s legacy - to her children, “adopted” kids, grandchildren and great grands. Pat was a truly remarkable woman and will be so missed by so many.Pat was the daughter of the late Jim and Jane (Cogan) Hickey. She was predeceased by her husbands, Jerry Noel and Charlie Mac Masters, brother Jim (and Carol) Hickey, brother Father Daniel Hickey CSsR, sister-in-law Judy Hickey and sister-in-law Toni (and Bill) Belmore. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law Lori (Smaldone) Noel and her great granddaughter Liliana Grace Cox.Pat is survived by her siblings, Nancy (Bob) Schaffer, Tom Hickey, Joanne (the late Paul) Fitzgerald, David (Sue) Hickey and her children Richard (Claudia), Robert (Debbie), Dan (Sharon), Kevin (Mary Ann) and Jerry (Lorraine) Noel, Maureen (Randy) Rivers, Jeanne (Bob) Cox and Margie (Andy) Jones, Judy (Greg) Lees and Cheri Mac Masters. She is survived by 22 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. (Sorry kiddos but there are too many of you to list all the names.) She is also survived by a plethora of nieces and nephews. Pat lived in Saratoga Springs for most of her life, it was always considered home. She was a lifelong member of St. Clement's Church. She worked as a secretary for the VA hospital, in the building that is now the Spa Little Theater, before she married. Being a wife and mother was her favorite “job”. As her children grew, Pat was the weekend phone operator at Skidmore College and then a part-timer at the Adirondack Trust Co. sorting and mailing bank statements. The bank job turned into a full-time gig in Bookkeeping and then the Student Loan Department. She enjoyed her retirement job with Lots of Linens but Pat most loved her volunteer work with Birthright, Meals on Wheels, Wesley nursing home and Hospice. She was very involved with her church, serving as a Eucharistic minister at Mass and bringing Communion and the Lord’s love to patients at the hospital or home. Dateline: Saratoga, NY Viola Parker Abbitt, age 99, died peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Wesley Health Care Center, with her daughter by her side. Viola was born on December 14, 1924, in North Tarrytown, NY and was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Viola (Jones) Parker. Viola graduated from North Tarrytown High School in 1943, and although she had planned to attend nursing school, she began working at the Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors to do her part to support the war effort. When World War II was over, she continued to work for General Motors for many more years. But, sewing was her love, and she was fortunate enough to get a job working for Winter and Summer Fabrics in Tarrytown, and later for the Singer Sewing Company in Ossining, NY, where she secured a position as a sewing instructor. Singer is also where she began a career in retail sales. She later worked for F.W. Woolworth and JC Penney in White Plains, NY before ultimately retiring in 1997. Upon her retirement from the labor force, she assisted in the care of her grandson for many years, something which gave her incredible joy. For most of her life, Viola resided in the Tarrytowns, and was a proud member of Foster Memorial AME Zion Church, where she attended Sunday school as a child and later went on to teach. She served that church in myriad ways, eventually holding a position on its Board of Trustees. She moved to upstate New York in 2002, where she lived in Clifton Park, Ballston Lake and ultimately Saratoga Springs. She briefly attended the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs, and the Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady. She enjoyed activities sponsored by the Saratoga County Department of Aging, including the Annual Picnic at the Fairgrounds and trips to the mall, where she made sure to get her hair and nails done. Viola loved sweet things, but her favorite desserts were vanilla ice cream and a good slice of her daughter’s cheesecake. She liked that cheesecake so much, her family would bring a slice to her at Wesley whenever they could. Viola is survived by her daughter Viola I. Abbitt and her grandson Taylor Abbitt, who both love her dearly and will miss her greatly. She is also survived by her nephew Gilbert Parker, III. In addition to her parents, Viola was predeceased by her brother Gilbert Parker, Jr., and her sister Mary, who died in infancy. A Memorial Service will be held on a date yet to be determined.
