ARLINGTON - Harold Kenneth Elliott, 83, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019. Harold was born June 9, 1935, to Othel and Veda Elliott in Clarendon, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Harold met Norma Haws on Thanksgiving Day in 1951. They married in 1952. A marriage that lasted 67 years. He began preaching at age 14 and pastoring at 16. He pastored for 30 years, last serving at Parkview Baptist Church from 1959 - 1982. Harold served as a volunteer police chaplain for the Arlington Police Department from 1973 - 1982. He began as full-time chaplain with the Arlington Police Department in 1982 until his retirement in 2004. He was known lovingly as Chappy among the officers. He then served again as volunteer chaplain with the Arlington Police Department from retirement until his passing on Feb. 6, 2019. As long as his health would permit he served and held credentials with the Texas Department of Public Safety Critical Incident Stress Team, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Tarrant County, Texas Sheriff's Department. He was a recipient of many honors and accolades throughout his career. Harold authored two books, Ripples of Suicide, Seven Miles out of Town and Completely off the Mental Chart. He also produced two films, Suicide is Not Painless and Fatal Mistake. Harold served at several major disasters: Crash of Delta Flight #1141, Branch Davidian, Waco, Texas, Oklahoma City Bombing, Oklahoma City, Okla., Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, La., and 9-11 First Responders in New York, N.Y. Harold was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Elliott. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Harold will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors: Wife of 67 years, Norma Elliott; children, Ken Elliott and wife, Audrey, Sherrie Hoogendoorn and husband, John; grandchildren, Andrea Elliott, Ashley Perrin and husband, Roman, Kathryn and Jonathan Hoogendoorn; great-grandchildren, Mia and Gavin Perrin and sisters, Dean Brunson and husband, Buddy and Wilma Leffew and husband, Darrel.
