She is survived by her daughters, Michele and Lori (George). Predeceased by her husband, Morley, parents, Earl and Blanche, her siblings, Betty (Bill) and Joan and Robert (survived by Margaret Anne). Gwen had friends everywhere: neighbours, work, ceramics and other creative outlets. Gwen had volunteered all her life at schools and Lincoln Gymnastics and later in life became one of the original members of the Friends of the Lakeside Park Carousel which was only fitting as she grew up in Port Dalhousie and always had strong ties and love of Lakeside Park. Gwen was creative, generous, strong willed and above all a loving and cherished wife, Mom and Nana. It has been 15 years since losing her beloved Morley. We all take solace that they are reunited eternally. Gwen's family would like to pass along a very heartfelt thank you to the exemplary staff at Linhaven Home for their exceptional care and support. "My parents taught me to put love first. Regardless of the challenge, regardless of the feelings of fear, anger or doubt - you never stopped pushing, living and appreciating. I will never let go of who you are. Dementia become a part of you but it will never erase the beauty, strength and woman that you were to me. "- Michele In keeping with Gwen's wishes cremation has taken place. Gary Storin

Gary Storin

Age - 72

December 8, 2023

Celebration of Life in January (details will be posted here soon) We are saddened to share that Gary Richard Storin laid his sticks down for the last time on December 2, 2023, as a result of a medical event. The sudden passing of Gary leaves his beloved son, Christopher Storin and Melissa Gunn, who was like a daughter to him, in deep sorrow and disbelief, as well as his nephews, Brian and Jeff. As the loving great uncle to Kenny and Danielle, he leaves a hole that can never be filled. Gary's dear friends, too numerous to name, are reeling. We are bound to leave names out, but you know who you are and will see yourself in these many words. Gary is joining his mom, Nellie (Helen) and dad Tiny (Lawrence) and brother Fred, all waiting to kick up their heels again with the hifi turned up and the knives ready to slap some knees. Also awaiting him will no doubt be some former bandmates and friends, and we can only hope the likes of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. And there will be laughter. Gary was a stickler for details, so here goes: he was a man about town, having grown up in the Garden City, and loving it so much, he rarely left in his 72 years. When he did, it was lugging the numerous drum cases housing his gorgeous set of Sonors or his vintage Pearls - or with his prized collection of barbering implements. His skilled hands never stopped working their magic, whether blowing our minds from the countless stages across the continent, most recently around this region, or when he lovingly and skillfully cut the hair of his cherished clients and friends, some for 35 years, who would enjoy his lively banter and his penchant for precision - and yes that is a nod to the drumline as well because for Gary, not much was not about music. It is where his best friendships and greatest loves, including two brief but happy marriages, formed. It influenced his earliest memories in that kitchen on Niagara Street. It guided him and comforted him and inspired him. Like his close friends who were his touchstones and his confidants, whom he saw regularly. He loved you so, and treasured each precious moment. Gary's extraordinary musicality cannot be compared; He was such a talented percussionist, and his skills transferred to other areas. He was an avid golfer. He loved the game, and he was good. It was the same with darts and billiards, and his body building competitions. Gary found a balance working for the District School Board Niagara, for the past 19 years. He was most recently at Collegiate, but he never forgot the kids and staff at Woodland or his other schools. He looked forward to his work placements and always spoke highly of his colleagues in salons, schools and on stages. Who hasn't been in a room where Gary did not captivate? Or make you laugh? Always impeccably groomed, with a twinkle in those knowing eyes, smelling faintly of his favourite incense and other curated scents. He was the consummate gentleman, always ready with a warm hug or firm handshake, an occasional bawdy joke, a cricket chirp or his disarming smile. Keeping perfect time. Never late and always prepared, but nothing could have prepared him for this timing. Christmas without him at the table and his birthday celebration on December 18th will hit loved ones hard. In a cruel twist of irony, Gary was preparing to say goodbye to his older brother, Fred on the same day he left us. Please refer to the Go Fund Me information or contact Mike or Terry for an email to send an etransfer to help with mounting expenses, in lieu of flowers. Pa rum pa pum pumShow more

Age - 93

SANDERSON GODFREY, Betty Lorraine 1930 - 2023 Betty Sanderson Godfrey passed away on Dec. 2nd 2023 of natural causes at the age of 93. She was surrounded by family in a place she loved and considered home, Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake. If you created the soundtrack for Betty's life Frank Sinatra's "My Way" would be at the top of the list. She knew from a young age that the playbook that existed for most young women in the 1950s wasn't for her. When asked to describe her life she would only say: "I had a lot of fun. " Betty was a hard worker and a single mother who did her best to support her family in an era when most women were homemakers. When she couldn't find a job she'd create one and over time she became an entrepreneur and small business owner. Betty liked to tell stories and make people laugh. Fact and fiction often merged in her well worn tales but she didn't care. She loved being the center of attention. Betty is survived by her children: Nancy Smith, Joseph Baldasio (Vivien), Margaret Sanger, Michael Baldasio (Teresa), and stepson, Scott Godfrey; and her sister, Margaret, and brother, Ernest; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held when her ashes are buried in the spring of 2024. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Age - 57

Words cannot properly express how incredible some of the most beautiful souls can be. Wise people who remind you, "there are no bad days, only bad moments", and that they, "love you more"; two phrases that hold so much more meaning when said by Shannon Irene BradleyZahorchak. These words can only display a fraction of the depth of love, kindness, strength and intelligence held by Shannon, aka MamaBear. Her babies, Leah, Rhiannon, and (predeceased) Michael Zahorchak, were her world. Those who knew her best can attest to her always stating, "my kids are my everything. " Mama Z would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need; the gift of empathy running strong within her and which she worked hard to instill in her precious children. She was just one of those beautiful people. Born on May 27, 1966 to her dear mother, Vera Bradley, who she proclaimed was, "her hero. " Survived by her Husband of 32 years Dennis Zahorchak who she loved unconditionally through all the trials and tribulations of life. Shannon considered herself truly blessed with wonderful grandchildren, with thanks to her step-son, Christopher (Caius, Ateah, Isabelle, Gwendolyn, and Jessica) Zahorchak. Also survived by her sister Shelley (Jordan and Justice), as well as her brother Brandon and sister-in-law Michelle (Tiffany, AJ, William, and Christian) Bradley. Sister-inlaw Jessica Zahorchak Gryn and Daniel Gryn To the many others whose lives have been touched by the bright light that Shannon radiated, know that she loved you just as much in return.
