NISKAYUNA - Guy A. Mogavero, 92, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday September 8, 2023. Born on December 21, 1930, the son of the late Antonino and Carmela Barreca Mogavero, Guy was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and Hudson Valley Community College. He served with the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Valley Forge, aircraft carrier as an Electrician. He started his career at General Electric in Pittsfield, MA and then at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna. He later worked for the New York State Dept. of Transportation for thirty years as an Assistant Civil Engineer and did land surveying part time. Guy was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Club, St. Paul the Apostle Church, the altar boys organization Suscipant Canora Society, Sons of Italy, Italian American Community Center in Albany and the Rotterdam Elks Lodge 2157. His favorite pastimes were playing bocce, enjoying baseball and spending time with family and friends. Guy was an avid sports fan and took an interest in history and his exceptional vegetable garden. He loved being outdoors and catching up with old friends, especially having a glass of red wine with his many lifelong friends. He always lifted others with his warmth and contagious smile. Guy touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity and everlasting love for his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Guy is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Moruzzi Mogavero; brothers, Paul and Salvatore "Sam" Mogavero. Guy is survived by his children, Anthony (Karen) Mogavero of Schenectady, Mary Anne (Michael) Mariotti of Rexford, and Laura (Kevin) O'Connor of Niskayuna; grandchildren, Anthony (Bridget) and Vincent Mogavero, Christina (Gary), Marisa, and Nicole Mariotti, and Sarah O'Connor; great-grandson, Jacob Mogavero; cousins, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday September 13th from 9:00 to 10:15 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St. Schenectady, NY 12304 at 11am. Burial will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
