Warren Bradley Johnson was born July 6, 1927 in Portland, Maine to Carl Selwyn and Elizabeth Bradley Johnson. His mother fell ill and died soon after his birth, and Carl re-married. Warren worked in the family independent grocery and made deliveries. He enlisted in the U. S. Merchant Marine, and as World War II concluded, his ship steamed to South Pacific islands such as Guam and Tinian, where he helped deal with materiel and ordnance being shipped back to the States. He would tell the story of an officer who attempted to smuggle a dismantled jeep on their ship bound for San Francisco. Along with a friend, Harold Miller, Warren sought his fortune in West Texas, but he would visit Fort Worth on the weekends to enjoy the big city sights. One such sight was a beautiful, spirited brunette named Oleane Lynch. Uncle Sam delayed their planned nuptials when Warren was drafted into the U. S. Army and sent to Paris, France. While overseas, Oleane's influence helped lead Warren to accept Christ as his Savior, and he was baptized by the chaplain in a river (in Seine?). They finally married on April 24, 1951, and moved to Snyder, Texas. Returning to the Metroplex, they lived on Bennett Dr. in Arlington, next to Second Baptist Church, where a fellow member suggested Warren apply for a union job at American Can Company. They moved to a larger house on Randolph St. and lived there for 65 years, raising their three sons. Warren worked every possible shift and lots of overtime as a Quality Control Supervisor, but the company was sold, and Warren retired at 57. He then devoted his life to serving his church as deacon, generously helping those in need, caring for and building onto the house, excelling as a loving, helpful Dad and Papaw, and walking with his beloved "Oley. " Warren is preceded in glory by his wife, Oleane, by his parents, and by his sister Marguerite Gray, and is survived by sister Sylvia Nickels, and sons Carl, Kurt and wife Julie, and Keith and wife JoLynn. Grandchildren include Chad and wife Sadie, Matt and wife Brittany, Kaylan Branson and husband Kyle, Miles and Sierra Sullivan, Abby, and Autry. Her great-grandchildren are Marlie, Lecil, Charlotte, Hallie, Hayes, Raylan, and Rawley.Show more

Loretta Finstad

Loretta Finstad

Age - 88

November 30, 2023

Our beloved wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma Loretta Alene (Hyles) Finstad, 88, passed away November 27, 2023. Service: 9:30 a. m. Monday, December 4, 2023 in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: St. Olaf Rock Church Cemetery, Cranfills Gap, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p. m. Sunday, December 3, 2023 in Mount Olivet Chapel. Loretta was born on December 31, 1934, and raised in Hico, TX. She moved to Fort Worth after graduating high school where she met her husband of 69 years, Wilson "Buster" Finstad. It was love at first sight. Dad took such great care of Mom over the past several years and we are so grateful for the love and devotion he has for her. Mom's greatest legacy is her family. She and Dad have three children: son Stephen Finstad (wife Diann), and daughters Deborah McMenamy (husband John), and Rachel Gregory (husband Bobby). They have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Melissa Finstad (husband Todd Hopkins, children Annabella and Cohen), Nicholas Finstad (daughter Emma), Tristan McMenamy (children Bridget, Brock, and Beau), Trey McMenamy (wife MaryLou), Joshua Gregory, Quinton Gregory, and Madelyn Gregory. Mom was one of the most humble and selfless people that you could ever know. She loved bigger and better than all of us deserved. She always pointed out the good in us and the promise the future held if we were willing to put in the hard work. She never bragged on herself, but loved sharing the accolades of her children and grandchildren, of whom she was always so proud. Mom was a true matriarch in every sense of the word. She loved her family and they were her whole life. If one of her kids or grandkids was involved in any activity, rain or shine she was there. She would clap and whistle and was your biggest cheerleader. Mobility issues late in her life didn't stop her-supporting and cheering on her family just meant too much for her to miss any events. She took pride in the accounting work she did at Fort Worth National Bank, City Motors, Beneficial Insurance and Lind Paper Company, and in her volunteer work at the polls, helping to run elections in Tarrant County. Outside of work and volunteering, Mom took great joy in water skiing, playing board games (Wahoo!), classic Nintendo games, and traveling with her family. She loved any and all things outdoors-particularly gardening, and she had an especially green thumb for African Violets. When she started her ceramics hobby many of her creations were the planters that showed off the beautiful plants she nurtured. Her smile lit up any room and her laugh-we can still hear it-was contagious. She always said that we were the loves of her life, and she was the love of ours. We loved you more Mom! Loretta was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Fred and Mattie Hyles, and siblings, Ray Hyles, Edward Hyles, and Louise Russell. She will be missed by her brothers Lloyd Hyles and his wife Judy, Vernon Hyles, Clara Grace Burnette, and Loretta's many nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors, and friends. Pallbearers are sons-in-law John McMenamy and Bobby Gregory; grandsons Nicholas Finstad, Trey McMenamy, Joshua Gregory, and Quinton Gregory; and grandson-in-law Todd Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers are great grandsons, Cohen Adams, Brock Ethridge and Beau Ethridge.Show more
