George Shores III was the first of four boys born to George and Cynthia Shores in Chicago, Illinois. George had a special way of spreading love. His love for God was shown to all. He loved his late wife Jeanette and three children, Britton, Brandon, and Keisha, with all his heart. He loved his brothers and special sisters, all of his nieces and nephews, his grandchildren, the generations of kids he has coached and mentored, as well as the friends he’s made throughout the years. He had an incredible mind and enthusiasm for learning. He held a career in computer engineering for 35 years, where he loved his work and cherished his colleagues. George had a special love for his work family from his early days at Bell Labs/Lucent Technology to his final years with CACI. George was truly able to live a life he loved. He was able to enjoy family, friends, music, nature, and the simple joys of adventures. George participated in the ACT-SO program, where he competed and won before going on to college, and he would later be a mentor as an adult. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a master’s degree in science and a bachelor’s degree in computer science. George was peacefully called home on February 10th, 2024. John Ohlsen Minier, III, age 30, of Joliet, passed away suddenly Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, with his family lovingly by his side. Born October 5, 1993, in Barrington, IL, he was a graduate of St. Viator High School, Arlington Heights, and attended the College of St. Francis, Joliet. A beloved and loving grandson, son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, he will never be forgotten by his family, and no one will ever take his place in their hearts. John was an accomplished equestrian whose showmanship skills led to his winning multiple World Championship titles in numerous equestrian organizations with his American Paint Horse, McLaren, and with other horses owned by his family. His love of horses began with his beloved paint horse Bianca, and his devotion to and bond with this amazing horse was legendary. John was personally interviewed by the international publication regarding his impressive achievements. John took special pride in the fact that showing horses was a family hobby. John also had an in-depth knowledge of antiques and historic architecture, so he was able to evaluate and select ideal pieces for any setting. His love of and expertise with antiques shaped his dream of someday having his own antique restoration business. Surviving are his mother, Mary Jane Minier; his father, John Minier, Jr.; one sister, Erica Minier; one adored niece, Scarlett Rose Minier; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, including beloved cousin, Mikayla Johnson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald L. and Teresa Johnson; John Minier Sr., Ramona Minier; and uncle, Bruce Minier. A Mass of Christian Burial for John was celebrated Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, Joliet. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. Doris Jean Puntney, age 93, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024 at Renwick Nursing & Rehab Center in Joliet, IL. Doris was born January 6, 1931 in Joliet to parents Ceil, nee Kinzler, and Clarence Schmitz.Doris spent her youth in Joliet, attending Troy Community School and graduating from Joliet Township High School Class of 1948.Always one seeking adventure and staying active, Doris from a young age loved to visit the Roller-Skating Rink and it was there that she met her beloved Lawrence Puntney. After a few years of dating, the two married on June 27, 1948. Moving from Joliet to Streator for a short time, the two eventually settled down in Plainfield where they would raise their family and spend the rest of their years together.Doris was a dedicated homemaker and yet always found time to stay active. She was an avid skater, skier, hiker, and runner; even running competitively into her 60’s & 70’s with the Chicago Area Runners Association. She found joy in playing Euchre and was a “Card Shark” with the DuPage County Cards Club, participating as an active member of the Lightways Hospice Guild and the Friends of Plainfield Area Public Library, and always enrolled in a membership at the Brookfield Zoo or many of the Chicago Area Museums where she could often be found exploring with her grandchildren.Doris was the loving mother of Dave (Karen) Puntney of Joliet, IL, the late Lynn Biskie, Mike (Sonja) Puntney of Marietta, GA, and Karen (Rick) Marino of Las Vegas, NV. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Traci (Jeremy), Bradley (Jamie), Ben (Jen), Matt (Jessica), Joseph, Jon (Leslie), Aaron (Allie), Anthony and Michael (Missy). Proud great grandmother to 17 great grandchildren. He was born on December 3, 1956, in Iola, Kansas, to the late Ernest and Patricia (nee Thomas) Rebstock. Dart loved his family and friends, always enjoying a good time with them. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and loved to be out fishing. Michael D.Homberg Michael D. Homberg passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in Joliet, IL. He was born on October 19, 1958, to Ronald L. and Norma J. (Bertrand) Homberg. Michael was born and raised in Kankakee and was a graduate of Kankakee Westview High school. Michael proudly served as a Security Forces Specialist in the United States Air Force from 1978-1983. Through the military, Michael attained the rank of Sergeant and cross trained to become a member of the Air Force Office of Special investigation. Upon discharge, Michael continued his higher education, and started his career in law enforcement by becoming a Montgomery police officer from 1984 through 1989. In 1989 he became a Will County Sheriff Deputy and retired at the rank of Sergeant in 2012. He had a combined total of 34 years serving in law enforcement and served as President of the Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Union. In 1992 Michael helped establish the K-9 unit where at a later time in his career he became their first Sergeant. In retirement, Michael enjoyed numerous activities including exercising, traveling, sport shooting, and camping. One of Michael’s greatest enjoyments was spending time with his family, and watching his grandchildren grow. Visitation for Michael D. Homberg will be held at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) on Sunday, February 25th from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 26th. Intermittent will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with full military honors being held under the auspices of the United States Air Force and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. Paul Maser Paul Maser, age 72 of Channahon, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at St. Joseph Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 19, 1951, in Chicago, to the late Carl and Margaret (nee Schroeder) Maser. Paul will be remembered as a simple man, a little stubborn at times, and those that knew him well knew that he was “bigger, tougher and meaner than most.” He always enjoyed a good time with family and friends. He loved all things fishing, horses, the outdoors, and his time spent as a Scout Master of Troop 317. You could find him most weekend nights having a beer and listening to some good country music while enjoying a fire. If you joined him, you would hear the same story you’ve heard many times before, but it was always worth a listen. He and his stories will certainly be missed.
