David Mears

David Mears

Age - 66

November 3, 2023

David Alan Mears, 66 years old, changed his address on November 1, 2023 and joined the love of his life, his wife of 36 years, Debbie Pittman Mears, into eternity. He was met there also by his parents, Willie Luther Mears and Nora Morris Mears, and his sister Linda Mears Howard. David left a loving family with loving memories on this earth: his son Chuck and wife Nikki Mears, and the apples of his eyes, his grandchildren Makayla and Tyler; his sister, Bernice Mears Pitt and husband Joe; brother, Bruce Mears and wife Anne; sister, Marcia Mears Bosch; and brother (in law) Rob Howard II. With this many siblings, David also leaves memories to a "gaggle" of nieces and nephews strewn across multiple states, and his best girl, fur-baby Daisy. David had a passion and gift for music. As a young man, he was a drummer for the Everyday Blues Band (much to the chagrin of his siblings), and instilled this passion in his son and grandson, who are exquisite musicians. David lived in Tarboro his entire life, creating relationships, serving the community, and enjoying family. He spent many years coaching basketball, starting with his nephews, then son, grandson, and ages in between. He was the truest fan for Southwest Edgecombe High School baseball team and the Tar River Bandits. Carpentry was a gift of David's, and he was able to craft almost anything he wanted. He loved to hunt and fish, and you could often find him at events at Deep Creek Hunting Club or Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsmen (TASS). Bath Creek with his brother Bruce was also a favorite. If you were to ask David, his greatest achievement was being "Papa". His honor and greatest joy were his grandchildren. He didn't mind eating spaghetti every time they requested it even when it wasn't his favorite. There was no bigger fan on the baseball and softball field than Papa. They had him wrapped. And let's not forget how David loved shagging on the town with friends that became family. Such a delight for him. While losing David was sudden and unexpected, we know he wouldn't want us to mourn. Being David, he would want us to be happy and embrace the joy in our lives, to be of service to others, to practice kindness. Help someone to their seat; cook for the crowd; lend a hand doing projects; support the people who need love. Please join family and friends in a celebration to honor David's life at the home of Sam and Rosemary Anderson, 814 Hwy 122 North, Tarboro, NC on Saturday, November4, 2023 at 2pm. The celebration will include all of David's favorite music, food, family, friends, and fun. We will be giving David the sendoff he requested, with joy and love. The family is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support during our time this time. Peace be with you. To to the family or in memory of David Alan Mears, pleaseShow more
