"Jerry was born October 11, 1953 in Gastonia, NC the sixth child to the late John Richard Leach, Sr and Lula Bell Roberts. A bubbly baby brother for his four sisters and one older brother to spoil and that we did! The family relocated to Charlotte shortly after he was born. Raised in the Cherry Neighborhood of the city. He was baptized at the Pleasant Hill Baptist church where he and his siblings all grew up. He attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County and graduated from Independence High in 1971. Jerry was an active Track and Field participant in cross country, earning him an opportunity to compete in the Jr. Olympics. Jerry\u0027s magnetic personality earned him the nickname “Pretty Boy”! He served a short stint in the US Army, but that was not his cup of tea!!! Jerry became a young father to his beautiful first born daughter Nicole Jerrette, and he was so proud to have a child to call him daddy. Later she called him Mon Pere (French for my father)! A few years later, Jerry moved to Philadelphia, PA following his baby sister “Von”. He was employed by GE as a Transformer Engineer and later he took employment with SEPTA as a Locomotive Engineer. He was very good at his craft! He met and married Bernadette Foxworth and cared for his two bonus daughters, Lisa and Tawanda. Later, they had another beautiful daughter Khadijah Jere. Jerry was the OG girl dad!!! Though baptized into the Baptist Church, later in life, Jerry studied and practiced the principles of the Muslim Faith and honored his new name “Sabir”. He was a huge Fan of the Philadelphia EAGLES. After moving back to Charlotte, he flew his EAGLES flag proudly in Panther Country!!! He loved traveling with his family all over to experience the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. Jerry had a horticultural nature much like that of his mother. His beautiful lawn and perfect roses were all the proof he needed. He was also an avid viewer of Western movies. His TV was on those stations all day long when he was not watching football or basketball. Jerry was a dog lover since childhood. Later in his life, he purchased a full breed 50 lb. pit bull named Zeus. Most recently Jerry became the fur daddy to his baby girl Mimi, a Malti-poo, who was the love of his life. If anyone wanted a team player, Jerry was the one. He enjoyed community and family. He did all he could to help the cause. He was a peaceful neighbor and amicable and supportive relative. He was preceded in death by father John Richard, mother Lula Bell, sister Katherine Massey Conner and older brother John Richard Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories, two precious daughters Nicole Hemphill of Los Angeles.
