Grace Ann Williams passed away peacefully at home following a two-year battle with ovarian cancer. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was loved and will be missed by so many. Grace Ann Anzalone was born and raised in Pittston, Pennsylvania, the ninth of ten children of Vincenzo and Grace (Archadipane) Anzalone, from San Cataldo, Sicily. After graduating from Saint Ann's academy in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Grace accepted her brother's invitation to visit Sacramento for school, work and to volunteer at Saint Mary Catholic Parish where her brother was pastor. During that visit, Grace met and fell in love with her future husband, Joseph Williams, and on July 7, 1956, they were married in Sacramento beginning a happy, productive 67-year journey together. Her first two years of that journey were spent in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where Joe was serving in the Army. There her first two children, Sharon and Ken were born. They then moved back to California where her son Ron was born. Eleven years later Grace moved with her family to New Jersey where Joe began work with a pharmaceutical company. There she worked for the township of Caldwell and continued her volunteering for the church and civic organizations. After 25 years in New Jersey Joe retired and the family moved back to Sacramento. Grace never stopped helping others and when settled in Sacramento volunteered for The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Sacramento Food Bank, St. Joseph's Parish Charities, over 20 years with the Mercy Guild and once again for Saint Mary Parish. She enjoyed seeing new things and spent many happy days traveling throughout Europe, and from the Giant's Causeway in Ireland and the Alps in Switzerland to the shops of Hong Kong to the beaches of Bali and Australia. For the past 35 years she and Joe spent the first two weeks of every February with family and friends on the beaches of Aruba. Grace is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Sharon Ann Skordos, son Kenneth James Williams, son Ronald George Williams, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Vincenzo and Grace Anzalone, her brothers Jim, Ky, Ange, Tony, John, Fr. Sam, and Joe and her sisters, Catherine Fusco and Josephine Klimek. There will be a rosary at 5:00PM on September 18th at Gormley Funeral Home 2015 Capitol Avenue and a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM on September 19th at Saint Mary Church 1333 58th Street, Sacramento. Mal Porter

Mal Porter

Age - 80

Mal Cha Porter (1943-2023) passed away peacefully on November 29th surrounded by those who loved her the most. Mal's beautiful journey began in Busan, South Korea in 1943. She was one of six children, landed in the harsh reality of a Korea reeling from the wounds of war. Against the backdrop of this scarcity, at the tender age of thirteen, Mal, not the first born, not a son, but an unassuming middle child became the bedrock of her family, selling Gim Bap (rolled rice) at the train station. These meager earnings became sustenance for the family she loved so dearly. As we trace Mal's journey from that little girl in Busan, who went to bed hungry night after night, to the radiant woman who stepped foot in the U. S. in 1980 with only $100 and dreams in her pocket, one can't ignore her impeccable strength, resilience, and zest for life. She worked remarkably hard, owned several businesses, and even in times of plenty, she never forgot her humble beginnings nor the hunger that she had once known. This fueled her empathy, leading her to help families suffering from food insecurity, especially children. She was, by all means, a proud patriot, a beacon of hope and endurance, balancing a quiet confidence with an innate kindness that she bestowed upon everyone who crossed her path. With love and patience, she raised two daughters installing in them the untiring belief in their strength, resilience, and potential. Behind her ever-present smile, she faced many health challenges, including an uphill battle with lung cancer. But she fought bravely, never wavering, never giving in to despair. Always believing in possibilities even in the face of overwhelming odds. She lived life on her terms. As a little girl who went to bed hungry in the city of Busan to the strong woman who opened her heart and doors to families in need, every step of Mal's journey was defined by fierce determination and boundless love. Her life story is not just an embodiment of the American Dream, but it is the human capacity to rise from pain, to dare to care, and to be more than what our circumstances dictate.Show more
