December 27, 2022
New Orleans, LA
Gloria Gladys Heuer Vinson of New Orleans entered her eternal home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born on May 27, 1929, to the late Marie Cleary Heuer and Frank Edward Heuer. Gloria was preceded in death by her stillborn twin sister; her husband, Charles (Buddy) Vinson; an infant son lost in childbirth; three of her siblings, Iona Mae Heuer Aden, Florence Heuer Horst and Edward Heuer; and a nephew, Eric Heuer. She is survived by her beloved brother, Frank Michael Heuer, Sr. , Metairie, LA; sister-in-law, Mary Miller Heuer, Jonesboro, LA; and loving nieces and nephews: Bonnie Aden Brooks (J. Dodd), Clinton, MS; Louellen Aden Berger (Darryl), New Orleans, LA; Frank Michael Heuer, Jr. , Metairie, LA; Karen Heuer Donaldson (Keith), Harahan, LA; Ramona Heuer Ross (Leonard), Monrovia, CA: and Duanne Horst (Debi), Ronnie Horst (Cathy), Barbara Horst Nicosia (Larry), Laurie Horst Clark (Jerry), and Janine Horst Laborde (Michael), all of Slidell, LA. Gloria attended Capdau School and graduated from John McDonogh High School. After attending business college, she began her career with South Central Bell, retiring in 1991 with almost 40 years of service. She was a member of Gentilly Presbyterian Church in New Orleans for over 50 years where she served as an elder and, more recently, was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Slidell. Gloria's faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is what she leaned on daily, and especially so when she was facing difficult challenges in life. Gloria's upbeat personality and infectious laugh made her a joy to be around! She loved life and was loved by all for her generosity, her kind spirit and her desire to be of help to others. Even in her last years, as her mobility was limited, she would still ask, "Is there anything I can do for you?" There's a verse in the Bible that states: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. " (Philippians 2:3,4) This was Gloria personified! Gloria adored her extended family and loved spending time with them! Never having had the opportunity to rear children of her own, her 11 nieces and nephews were her adopted "children". Each one of them felt special as she would shower them with her generosity and her unending love! Bingo! Oh, how she loved playing Bingo! She would play several times a week, often accompanied by one or more of her nieces and/or nephews. Gloria would play several cards at once and could check over all of them when each number was called, even checking the cards of those who had accompanied her! She was a Bingo "Pro" and got giddy when she came home with a little prize money. This was also her favorite activity when she moved to Oak Park Village in her final years. Gloria Vinson. What a Sweetheart! She will truly be missed this side of heaven but was certainly embraced by those loved ones she joined in her heavenly home! The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Village Assisted Living and Vital Link Health Care for the love and devotion their precious sister and aunt received. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 1:00 P. M. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A. M. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to Children's Hospital of New Orleans or St. Jude Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
