| | | Gibbs was born December 09, 1930. The eldest of six amazing kids in Moss Point, Mississippi. To Katie Mae Davis and Horace Otis Miller Sr. a t a time and a place in small town Mississippi where the love of family, church and responsibility was priority. In the mid-late thirties Tom Nettles entered picture as the man of the house providing strong discipline and parenting. Times were tough and maybe even extremely difficult. But the average person outside looking in would not have even none it. Everyone contributed with a common goal of love of family, school, chores and where ever else you were needed. These Foundation al and fundamental principles have stayed Gloria and her siblings thru out life. Being the first of six Gloria was well loved by her parents and grandparents, Ida Mae and Ov ead Davis. The sibling arrival s following her was her brother Horace Jr. , Edith, Velma, Jessie and "Katies baby" Calvin (CW). A family of this size assured that things were going to get done simply because they all contributed or else. To keep things even more healthy athletics and sports played a role as everyone got older. After all what house especially of that size could not use a good dose of good old sibling rivalry. Basketball and soft ball head the list. In her late teens Gloria found the urge to carved out her own path and journey. In this time over the next ten years or so she made big city stops for the most part across the country. Chicago, New Orleans, and San Francisco to name a few. Before settling in the city of angles. Los Angeles, California where she became a wife marring Joe Gibbs Sr. They were a great match and had a lot of common interest and goals. In the mid-sixties both Gloria and Joe Sr. were blessed by God to be parents and along came Joe "Joe Joe" Gibbs Jr. His arrival made things complete and the three of them were made a family unit. Raising and parenting their son Joe Joe with strong principles and values. Between the m both Gloria and her husband Joe Sr. put in 30 plus years in the Los Angeles work force in the areas of commercial paint supply and general construction. This fueled all their hopes and dreams of a great life for them and their son. It is truly a blessing to have lived ninety-two years and all the people and places Gloria has seen. Her smile and her personality that was uniquely her own will forever be missed among her family and friends. Do not cry for her, smile for her, and raise your glass to a job well done for a woman that did it her way and on her own terms at a time when it was not even heard of or fashionable. So truly the life that she led to other women family and friend she was a pioneer and trailblazer . Let us remember Gloria's early foundational and fundamental values that she has now left for us all . In the end there will always differences and disagreements. But ask yourself what is truly more important. As we have all gotten older remember we are here but a short time. Extending love, blessing and prayers to each and every one that receives this.
