Great Falls, MT

Gloria Mae Eiskant, 78, of Great Falls, MT, was born on June 1, 1945, to Robert and Marcella Goerger. She went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2023. Gloria was a gentle, yet tenacious soul who grew up with 4 sisters that shared a lifelong bond of tender affection for each other. The Goerger girls were all musically gifted and to be able to sit and listen to them sing with one another was always a treat! Gloria became an LPN after high school and worked at the Columbus Hospital. She met the love of her life, John Eiskant, while he was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base. They were married in New York in 1966 and later welcomed a baby boy, Lonny, before moving back to Great Falls where they added two daughters, Barbara and Colleen. Gloria tried a few odd jobs as a young parent, but mostly she devoted all of her love and energy to caring for her family. From cooking, cleaning, reading to her children every night ("Just one more chapter, Mom, please!"), gardening, and sewing, to a million other sacrifices she made, she was the best mother and granny anyone could hope to have. Gloria was very artistic and spent many years in pursuit of making the perfect butterfly because she was captivated by the imagery of how we, as Christians, are a new creation in Jesus. From a young age, Gloria fell in love with Jesus. He was her supply, her everything. All who knew her were blessed because of the relationship that she had with the Lord. A beautiful part of her legacy was her marriage to John and how their devotion to one another and to the Lord would shine brighter and brighter after 56 years together. Her parents and her sister, Patty Hausmann, preceded her in death. She leaves behind her children, Lonny (Theresa) Eiskant, Barbara (Don) Harris, and Colleen Snider (Robin Fladstol); grandchildren, Jessika Eiskant, Ashley Ferguson, Wade Eiskant, Justin Eiskant, Alyssa Preece, Andrea Little, Breanna Cross, and Anthony Snider; great-grandchildren, George and Dylan Preece, Kamdyn Snider, Wesley Cross, Anna Little, and soon-to-be Tulsa Ray; and her beloved sisters, Loretta Anderson, Marie Mills, and Deloris Duquette. A celebration of life will be held on her birthday, June 1, 2024, at Schnider Funeral Home to commemorate this precious saint.

The Mckittrick

November 29, 2023

Our family is heartbroken to announce that our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Thomas McKittrick passed away on November 18, 2023, in Great Falls, Montana with his devoted family by his side. He succumbed to glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, diagnosed on July 4, 2021. He accepted this devastating illness with an abundance of faith and courage. Thomas Michael McKittrick was the second child welcomed by Daniel Thomas and Catherine (Murphy) McKittrick on January 7, 1944, in Anaconda, Montana. He had an older brother, D. Patrick "Pat," and younger siblings, Eileen and Timothy. Sadly, a brother Kevin, died shortly after birth. Tom enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Anaconda running with friends, often going to work with his father, playing baseball, walking to movies on Saturdays, hiking in the mountains, and fishing at Georgetown Lake, a place he loved. At age 11, life drastically changed for Tom when his adored father, who was the mayor of Anaconda at that time, suddenly died at age 44, leaving behind his wife and four children ages 8 months to 13 years. Tom carried this sorrow with him for the rest of his life. After his father died, Tom immediately sought jobs, such as selling seeds to the neighbor ladies, who kindly bought them, delivering newspapers, and setting pins in the local bowling alley. In high school and college, he worked at the Anaconda Smelter and built mountain roads with a construction crew. From age 11, Tom was never without some kind of full or part-time job, sometimes two or three at a time. He attended Catholic schools, graduating from Anaconda Central High School in 1962, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Tom loved playing baseball and was widely recognized as an outstanding catcher. One summer, Dave McNally, who later became an all-star major league pitcher, contacted Tom to be his catcher while he was being scouted by the Baltimore Orioles. He worked his way through Carroll College in Helena, Montana majoring in Political Science. Tom continued to excel at baseball on Carroll's team, was prefect of discipline, and president of his senior class. He graduated in 1966. He then worked at a bank while attending Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington. In 1969, Tom moved to Washington, DC to work as a copyright examiner for the Library of Congress. On December 20, 1969, Tom married Lisa Taylor, a native Virginian. They welcomed a son, Matthew in November 1970 and a daughter, Marissa in December 1972. While raising a young family, Tom took law classes at Catholic University and interned with two local judges. He passed the Virginia Bar in 1972, and then practiced law in Arlington, working as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney and in private practice. Tom had many interesting life experiences, one of which happened in October of 1972. He was in a bank in Arlington when an infamous bank robbery took place. During the robbery, Tom was ordered to the ground, had a gun held to his head, and told not to move or he would be killed. Tragically, a police officer and the bank manager were shot to death. The robbers then hijacked a plane and fled to Cuba, but were apprehended years later. In 1978, Tom and Lisa moved to Great Falls to be back in beautiful Montana and close to his large family. He worked as a Deputy County Attorney and then Chief Trial Counsel. In 1983, he was appointed to the position of District Court Judge by Governor Ted Schwinden. Tom was known as a hard-working individual, with an extensive knowledge of the law and a deep sense of fairness and integrity. He thoroughly enjoyed his position and was very grateful to be able to serve the people of Cascade County for over 30 years. Throughout his career, Tom received many judicial and civic awards. He was always very humbled by and appreciative of every one of them. Tom was the first judge to receive the Edward C. Alexander Award. He served on numerous boards and committees and was past president of the Montana Judges Association. Tom and Lisa had the opportunity to travel all over the United States and Europe. In Italy, they were very moved by Leonardo da Vinci's painting of The Last Supper. They also went with Matt, Marissa, and Luke to Great Britain and Ireland. The highlight was County Monaghan where they visited Tom's father's birthplace and were welcomed by family friends who knew and shared interesting stories about his relatives. Tom and Lisa also liked trips to Seattle to watch the Yankees play the Mariners. He continued his favorite activities of hiking and fishing at Georgetown Lake and relaxing at Carter Ferry. Tom was also an avid reader. He and Lisa frequently drove the back roads of Montana, with their furry companions Scarlett, Shag, and Fiona, stopping at small shops and cafes along the way. There was nothing more important to Tom than his family. He deeply loved Matt and Marissa and was always very proud of them. He willingly rearranged his busy work schedule, so he could attend their sporting events and school activities. He was always there to provide sound and calm advice whenever needed. Grandpa Tom absolutely adored and spoiled his 3 grandchildren and enjoyed every moment he was with them. We will all miss his humorous stories from his childhood, when he earned the much deserved nickname of Holy Terror. Above all, Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He never forgot a family member's birthday, his wedding anniversary, or any other special occasion. Tom had a strong work ethic, and a deep respect for the law, his country, and his Catholic faith. While his death has caused our hearts to break, there are many people who are immeasurably and forever grateful for the guidance and help he provided them. Tom's death is a profound loss to our family, and he will be remembered and cherished forever. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kevin; and brother-in-law, Jack Sletten. He is survived by Lisa, his beloved wife of almost 54 years; son, Matthew (Stacy) McKittrick of Great Falls; daughter, Marissa (Luke) Ostby of Clancy; grandchildren, London and Sloane Ostby and Devin McKittrick; brothers, Pat (Sharon) McKittrick and Tim (Carole) McKittrick; sister, Eileen Sletten; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, both at O'Connor Funeral Home. A vigil will be Friday, December 8, 2023, at 6:00 pm with a funeral liturgy on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:00 am, both at St. Ann's Cathedral followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.Show more

She was the fourth of six children born to Ed and Bobbie. Many of Kathy's summers were spent at Flathead Lake with her family. She graduated from Sentinel High in 1978. Kathy married Tim Stevenson and they had three daughters, Lynze, Jennifer and Heidi. They raised their young family in Missoula until March of 1989, when they moved to central Nevada to work for a Gold Mine. During their time in Round Mountain Kathy had a few different jobs but was most proud of her time operating the large sheepsfoot roller. In 1998, they moved back to Montana. Kathy then spent many years working at Direct TV before her medical retirement. In October of 2000 her first grandchild was born, and this is when she found her favorite role of being a Nana. For the last 23 years Kathy spent special time with her eight grandchildren and they each have countless memories with her. She loved to travel with them, do crafts, bake, play Legos, jump on the trampoline, and play any silly game they could think of. Kathy will be remembered for her fun spirit and her enormous heart, which she shared with her family and friends. Her love for crafting over the years allowed her to gift beautiful cross stitch masterpieces, and crocheted blankets and quilts to her family. As her illness progressed, she still continued to crochet small items to leave for other cancer patients as well as to donate to Jennifer's elementary class. The family would like to give a special thanks to Angel Flight who gave her the gift of wings to and from treatment as well as the Benefits Peace Hospice House who offered the utmost compassion and care to Kathy and her family. John Bates

John Bates

Age - 48

November 29, 2023

John Zachary Bates, beloved father, brother, son, partner, and friend, died on Saturday November 25, 2023, at the age of 48. He was born in Great Falls, MT on May 25, 1975, and never wanted to live anywhere else. From the age of two, Zach's strength was making friends and charming people and pets with his mischievous smile and thoughtfulness. He was the neighborhood "little brother" and grew into a talented man who was quick to pick up new skills. He explored a variety of interests including music, skateboarding, snowboarding, wakeboarding, bladesmithing, sales, and welding before settling into his favorite job, groundskeeping at Mount Olivet Cemetery and working for the Diocese of Eastern Montana. Although the gophers were a nemesis, he regularly fed peanuts to the squirrels at the cemetery. His family looks forward to continuing this in his honor. His sons will remember a great dad, one who listened, was always ready to lend a helping hand, one who ran into a friend wherever he went and always took the time to catch up, and one who really didn't want a big fuss. Most fondly, they will remember a father who was tough as nails, and strong enough to be gentle. Zach was a giver of joy and his heart was huge. It held so much love for so many, but in the end his fragile heart failed him and us. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents. He is survived by his father, Jerry; sons, Ian and Ethan; siblings, Becky (Jonathan), Sarah (Joe), and Joe; niece, Isalei; nephew, Kavika; partner, Shauna Walton; cousins and uncles; as well as people who are forever family, Susan (mother of Ian), Becca (mother of Ethan), and Michelle, Cade, Brook, Jayce, Falynn, and Tiauna. A memorial service will be held on November 29, 2023, at 10:30 am at O'Connor Memorial Chapel. A larger celebration of his life and interment at Mount Olivet will happen at a future date.Show more

Henry Weyerman

Henry Weyerman

Age - 79

November 28, 2023

Our loving father, Hank Weyerman went to meet our beautiful mother in Heaven on November 14, 2023. Hank was born on February 1, 1944, to Fred and Olive Weyerman in Vernal, Utah. He was one of twelve children. While growing up he worked on the family farm and after graduating high school from West Side High School in Weston, Idaho in 1962, he went into the US Air Force. While stationed in Spokane, Washington, and playing the drums in a band on the weekends, he met and soon after married Shirley Buchanan. They were married on August 20, 1966. They moved around a bit while he was in the USAF and were blessed with two children, Denise and Anne. Hank retired after 20 years in the USAF and the family stayed in Great Falls. Hank worked a civil service position along with other jobs until he was in an accident and broke his back. In 1994, they purchased a family cabin which was their little piece of heaven. Hank bought a sawmill and used logs from their property to make the cabin their home. He moved Shirley to the cabin to live full-time for approximately six years until their health would not allow them to live there any longer. His grandchildren agree that summers at the cabin with grandma and grandpa are some of their most cherished memories. They didn't feel like they lost their cabin though, as they bought a log cabin in the middle of town. Living in town gave them the opportunity to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Grandpa was always fun and allowed them to "pick out the large candy bars" whenever they had to go to the grocery store for grandma. One of his favorite things to do was watch his granddaughter, Sam, play softball. He loved to hunt and fish and spent as much time as he could at the cabin with his family. He loved teaching others what he knew, but above all else, he loved to tell stories. His stories would get bigger and bigger each time he told them. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. Hank suffered a lot in this life, and we are comforted knowing he is now enjoying the beautiful mountains of Heaven with our mother. Hank is survived by his daughters, Denise Neff (Melvin) of Bellaire, Ohio, and Anne Foster (Aaron) of Great Falls; brothers, Mel Weyerman (Melody) of Boise, Idaho, and Dave Weyerman (Janet) of Middleton, Idaho; sister, Dora Jane Jorgenson of Boise, Idaho; his beloved grandchildren, Alicia Buxton (Konnor) of Herriman, Utah, Justin Weyerman of North Dakota, and Samantha Payne (Byron) of Havre; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Meghan (Alicia); the son he never had, Les Payne; and his loving dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Shirley; father, Fred; mother, Olive; brothers, Carl, Joe, and Fred Weyerman; and sisters, Mae, Connie, and Ann Weyerman. Cremation has taken place. O'Connor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1015 15th Avenue S, Great Falls, MT.Show more

Margaret Lesmeister

Margaret Lesmeister

Age - 86

November 28, 2023

Margaret "Irene" Lesmeister, 86, passed away into the Lords loving hands on November 24, 2023, with loving family by her side. Irene was born on December 6, 1936, in Great Falls, MT, to Willard and Stella Hartnell. Young Irene grew up as an only child which gave her the ability to entertain herself, as well as learn how to bake and cook from the elderly landlord that she so dearly adored. This talent in the kitchen lasted throughout her life, and only got better with time. She spent many of her formative years with her grandparents and helped with their care as needed. This work ethic, steadfastness and caring for others became a theme throughout life. Irene attended school in Great Falls, initially at Great Falls High and then she transferred to Great Falls Central Catholic High School her junior and senior years. To this day, Irene maintains these lifelong friendships, and would meet "The Girls" for lunch to talk about the good old days. While working in the kitchen at the Colombus Hospital, she befriended a wonderful Catholic Nun, Sr. Theresa. This friendship changed the course of Irene's life forever. It was Sr. Theresa that convinced Irene that she would make a wonderful and caring nurse. As the story is told, Sr. Theresa had the daunting task of convincing Irene's parents that this was a great opportunity and a wonderful career path. They finally agreed, which made Irene very happy. After high school graduation in 1955, Irene enrolled in the Colombus School of Nursing, and graduated in 1958. She began an amazing journey working at the Colombus Hospital which spanned over three decades. She primarily worked the night shift, as she was excited to get paid time and half, and she loved every minute of it. From orthopedics, pediatrics, surgical, night house supervisor, hospice, home health and community outreach, Irene covered it all. She truly had a love and passion for nursing and touched the lives of so many. On June 14, 1958, Irene married her husband and best friend, Don Lesmeister. They raised four children and have resided in the same home for over six decades. Don passed away in September of 2020, not long after their 62nd wedding anniversary. Anyone who knew Irene can appreciate her love for her family, nursing, church, taking care of anyone in need and her love for baking and cooking. You never left hungry after visiting the Lesmeister home. Irene always had tasty baked goods ready in a minute's notice, and the door was always open. She enjoyed traveling and trying new restaurants along the way. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and making many memories at their place at Flathead. She was also a member of the Mixed Nuts lunch group, that was comprised of all the "old school" nurses from the Colombus Hospital. They met once a month to discuss the old days and all their "shenanigans" while working the night shift They used to say, "if those old hospital walls could talk. " She is survived by her sons, Dennis and Donnie (PJ Sweeney); daughters, Terri and Kathy; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Irene was a compassionate and loving soul whose kindness was only matched by her sincere concern and thoughtfulness for others. You always felt welcome and safe in her presence, and this void will never be filled. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. with a vigil following the viewing at 6:00 p. m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Peace Hospice House.
