A Graveside service for Gene R. Gant age 71 of Enid will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Gene was born March 26, 1952 in Neosho, MO to Donald and Fern (Seeliger) Gant and passed away February 20, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He moved to Ada at a young age and attended and graduated from Ada High School in 1970. He attended and graduated from East Central University in 1974 with a degree in History. He married Donna Cotter on November 21, 1981 in Enid at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Gene entered the U.S. Army 1973 and was honorably discharged in 1977. He went to work for Rock Island Railroad, later for Frisco Railroad and retired as a locomotive engineer for BNSF after 33 years on February 10, 2010. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Gene is survived by his wife Donna of the home, sons, Gene R. Gant, II of Enid and Donald Gant of Council Grove, KS, two brothers. David Gant and Rex Gant and several other family members. Funeral services for Jacqulyn “Jackie” LaRoy Cornish, age 83, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, February 26, 2024, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. Jackie was born April 18, 1940 in Pratt, Kansas, to LaRoy and Dolly Fae (Hendrix) Davis, and passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 in Enid. Jackie graduated from Kremlin High School in 1958. She was very involved in golf, playing in many tournaments at Pheasant Run, Meadow Lake and Oakwood. She was also on a bowling league, and when able, she and Wayne enjoyed going square dancing. Jackie is survived by her husband, Wayne Cornish, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Kimberly Morris and Justin Landrum, of Drummond; Karen Fae Morris, of Waukomis; two step-daughters, Jacquetta Perry and husband Brett, of Waukomis; and Shawna Pitman and husband Dean, of Drummond, OK; grandson, Sgt. Richard Hays and wife Erin, of Camden, SC; grandson, Doug Caldwell of Ponca City; granddaughter, Tabitha Caldwell, of California; Amy Smith of New York; and Haley Diaz and husband Dakota, of Ponca City; granddaughter Mandy Neahring-Long, of Norman; granddaughter Melissa Bishop, of MI; and sister, Linda McDowell and husband Joe, of Enid; nephew, Michael and niece, Traci, as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was born on January 15,1954, and brought joy and love to all who knew him. He was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma and had 8 sisters and 3 brothers. Vernie had a passion for fishing, tinkering, and building things. He could often be found by the water, casting his line, and enjoying the serenity of nature. Vernie’s creativity and skill in tinkering and building allowed him to bring his ideas to life, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship. Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. Our beloved Teresa Marie Mendenhall passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at the age of 68. She was born in New Haven, CT to Tessie and Art Pratt on Easter morning, April 10, 1955, and raised in Guilford, CT. She graduated from Guilford High School in 1973, and lived in Boston, MA and Ft. Lauderdale, FL before meeting the love of her life, Tim Mendenhall, in Scarsdale, NY. After meeting and marrying Tim, she moved to Enid, OK, where she spent the last 43 years. The couple built an amazing, busy, and abundant life with their three daughters; Ryan Conner, Lyndsay Parker, and Morgan Sanderson. Teri’s greatest passion was working with children. She volunteered in different roles at Glenwood Elementary School. Inspired by her love for children and children’s literature, she accepted a position as a Library Assistant at Glenwood Elementary School. That kick-started her career working in different capacities throughout the school. Her boundless energy, servant’s heart, and devotion to the Catholic faith led her to accept a job as a pre-school teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School. She was instrumental in helping the Parish open the school in 2001, and she continued to work there for 20-plus years. She is survived by her loving husband, Tim; daughters Ryan, Lyndsay, and Morgan; brother Mike Pratt; and sons-in-law Doug Conner, Charlie Parker, and Drew Sanderson. The greatest loves of her life were her grandchildren Claire Conner, Annie Conner, Charlie Parker, and Vera Parker, who affectionately referred to her as “Noni.” She is preceded in death by her mother Tessie Pratt; her father Art Pratt; and her sister, Annie Metcalfe. Shirley Marie Hamm was born February 17, 1940, to Elvin D. and Laura Belle (Burnett) Free in Oklahoma City. She departed this life on February 18, 2024, at the age of 84 years.Shirley was raised in Oklahoma City. She was united in marriage to Burl Oren Hamm on September 27, 1958, in Duncan, Oklahoma. To this union eleven children, Angela, Regina, Cynthia, Burl, Theresa, Candis, Brian, Michael, David, Robert and Christopher, were born.She was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. She enjoyed playing cards, Pacman, baking, and loved art: coloring, painting and drawing.Survivors include daughters, Angela Arnold and husband, Gary, of Lexington, Regina Houston & Mike Crumbly of Jenks, Cynthia Denise, Theresa Jones of Enid and Candis Thompson of Enid; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by sons: Burl Hamm, Jr., Brian Jason Hamm, Michael Hamm, David Hamm, Robert Hamm and Christopher Hamm and eight siblings.Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 23, 2024, in the Matherly-Davis Chapel. Linda was born on May 26, 1950, in Enid, Oklahoma to Robert and Turah Cline Flowers and passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Enid. She was an LPN and worked passionately as a nurse in Enid for many years. She devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and to being the best nurse that she could be to her patients. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Turah Matussak, nieces Leanne Dye, Jennifer Dye and Andrea Wilson. She leaves behind her three daughters, Jacque Garver, Crystal Knight and Marieta Coulson, seven siblings, Leota Musto and husband Steven, Randy Vrska and wife Jeanette, Rita Gaunt and husband Greg, Mary Wilson, David Matussak, Joseph Matussak and wife Patricia and James Matussak and wife Valerie along with many nieces nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "The life celebration of Terry Eugene Layton will be at Anderson Burris Chapel at 10 am Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Terry was in the loving presence of his family and friends at the time of his passing. Terry will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Terry Eugene Layton was born to Eldon and Lois Layton on June 6, 1956 and died February 16, 2024. He grew up in Enid attending Wilson Elementary, Longfellow Middle School, and graduated from Enid High in 1974. Terry loved his high school buddies as well as his beloved cousins. After high school, Terry married Toni White and from that union two children were born, daughter, Traci Layton-Conrady and son, Travis Layton. Terry enjoyed sports and coached many of Travis and Traci’s soccer, basketball and baseball teams. He enjoyed Nascar and stock car racing. He played golf with his best buddies and helped his daughter hit a hole in one at Rolling Meadows Golf course near Garber. He later married Vickie Stuart on May 17, 1995 and they worked together in the blending of a new family. He played an important role in the lives of April Thompson and Joseph Stuart. He loved Christmas holidays together as well as camping trips at the lake. He loved fishing with his family and friends. He taught both his children as well as all the grandchildren how to fish. Vickie and Terry have celebrated life together for over 30 years. Terry worked for RA White Painting and then later opened his own business where he and long time friend Shane Hulsey worked together and painted many of Enid’s newest homes. Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Elaine Layton, brother Denny Lee and son Joseph Stuart. He is survived by Vickie Layton (spouse), daughters Traci Layton-Conrady and April Thompson and son, Travis Layton. He leaves behind 5 awesome grandsons, Austin King, Joseph Stuart, Eric Layton, Ethan Conrady and Logan Thompson."

"Georgia Evern Fuchs, 90, passed peacefully from this earthly life on February 13, 2024 in Enid, Oklahoma. Georgia was born in Aline, Oklahoma on September 28, 1933 to Everett Louis and Margaret Helen (Morehead) Daily, just 45 years after Grandpa Libby settled the territory in the Land Run of 1889. Everett, as an employee of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC\u0026amp;GS), provided a remarkable life of travel to Margaret, Georgia and her younger brother Jimmy. Georgia graduated highschool in Flint, Michigan and met her husband James Elmer Fuchs (Jim), at a USC\u0026amp;GS party in Ladysmith, WI in 1952. Jim and Georgia were married on March 5, 1954 in Brenham, Texas and celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary before Jim’s final move to Heaven on January 10, 2014. They had four children: Douglas Bruce Fuchs (Maryann) of Conroe, Texas; Joel Raymond Fuchs; Leanna Carol Sheppard (Larry) of Houston, Texas; and Janet Lynn Roberts (Lee) of Wakita, Oklahoma. Georgia and Jim moved around the nation a remarkable 100 times before retiring to Enid in 1992. She lived at Burgundy Place in Enid since 2019. The last of her generation, Georgia was preceded in death by Jim; her parents; brothers Everett Jr. and Jimmy; son Joel (2020); grandson Preston (1985); and son-in-law Larry Michael Sheppard (2021). Georgia and Jim leave a legacy of grandchildren: Zachary James Fuchs (Tiffany) of Yukon, OK; Daniel James Fox (Helen) of Conroe, TX; Bradley Fox of Houston, TX; Peter Sheppard (Christina) of Baytown, TX; Georgia Elizabeth “Beth” Barnard (Ty) of Nash, OK; Ryan Sheppard (Hannah) of Houston, TX; James Moody (Lauren) of Stillwater, OK. Great-grandchildren include: Wyatt James Fox; Laramie and Wilder Sheppard; Thomas Sheppard; Nolan and Mark Barnard; and Piper Moody. Georgia is survived by her dear in-laws Ed \u0026amp; Vi Fuchs of Bismarck, ND; Ken \u0026amp; Mary Ann Fuchs of Williston, ND; Carole \u0026amp; Paul Wogen of Minneapolis, MN; nieces and nephews. Burial will follow at a later date at the Springhills State Veterans Cemetery at Spring Lake, NC. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 6-7pm at the funeral home. Yovenne passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Enid. Yovenne was born September 21, 1928 in Flint, Michigan to James Henry and Beryl (Crawford) Ostrom. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Flint, MI. She went on to work at Angelo’s Coney Island Restaurant which led her to meet her soulmate, James Robert Thomas, whom she married March 21, 1953 in Flint, MI, and were happily married for 58 years until his passing. She was a proud and devoted Army wife, which led them to GA where they welcomed their son Floyd; the Army led them to Vicenza, Italy as a family before coming to Fort Sill, OK where they welcomed their daughter’s Annette and Robin, after they completed their family the moved to Fort Bragg, NC. In North Carolina Yovenne was the Cafeteria Manager at Ashley Elementary School in Fayetteville, NC and waiting for her beloved to return home from secret overseas missions, while not even knowing where he was. She spent most of her time looking after her children and helping with their activities: with baseball, coaching softball, volleyball fundraisers, church bazaars, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Yovenne was also active with the Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary, Arizona Chapter of Special Military Active Retired Travel Club (SMART) which she also held several offices, and she was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge where she also held several offices. She also enjoyed many hobbies including traveling, quilting, sewing, crafting, and cooking for large groups with SMART. Yovenne was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Robert “Bob” Thomas, her parents, and all 9 of her siblings; her granddaughter Amber Stepha Hastings, and great grandson Byron James O’Rourke. She is survived by her children, son Floyd Thomas (Marlene) of Pine Hurst, NC, daughter Annette Riggins (Richard) of Garber, and daughter Robin Stalnaker (Edward) of Enid, OK. Grandchildren: Theresa Thomas, Gary Lambert (Mindy), Kevin Painter, Mark Painter (Karlene), Thomas (TJ) Painter, Karie Christner, Damien Kono-Riggins, Nathon Kono-Riggins, Micah Kono-Riggins (Paige), Melissa Kono, Michelle Kono, and Kevin Stalnaker. Great Grandchildren: LeeAnn, Gary III, Robert, Kassandra, Brady, Cayde, Brayden, Brooklyn, Callum, Madilyn, Jaxon, Jaylynn Cooper, Cambridge, Malachi, Cadence, Felicity, Zachary, Cayla, Chase, Nala, Mya, Jupiter.
