Glenn E. Hinton Glenn E. Hinton, 89, of Adelphi, passed peacefully Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his residence. He was born November 27, 1933 to the late Herman F. and Mildred (Arledge) Hinton. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Marylin Sue (Ricketts) Hinton. He is survived by children, Drena Clyne, Westerville, OH, Casey (Kathy) Hinton, Whitesboro, Texas, and Judy (Tom) Ortman, Chillicothe, OH; grandchildren, Chad (Carrie) Hoover, Carrie (Emery) Bennett, Corey (Melissa) Hoover, Rusty (Michelle) Ortman, and Emmy Ortman; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Beverly Hinton Schwalbach; sister-in-law, Joane Goodman Hinton; and brother-in-law, Robert (Kay) Ricketts. Glenn was predeceased by son-in-law, Craig Hoover; brothers, Herman Hinton and Don Hinton; and sister, Sally Hinton Cruit. Glenn was a 1951 graduate of Centralia High School. After graduation, he proceeded to help his father on the farm and served in the Army from 1954 - 1956. He began working at the Mead Corporation in 1956 and retired after 40 years. Glenn was a member of Colerain United Methodist Church, Zane Trace Athletic Boosters, Zane Trace School Board Member of 16 years, coached Zane Trace youth baseball league green team and Zane Trace pony league team for several years. Besides his family, Glenn had 3 great loves. . . horses, the Adelphi Community Band, and the Zane Trace School, especially Zane Trace Basketball. Glenn's love of horses began at a young age working with teams helping with the farming. He was finally able to purchase his first horse and cart at the age of 15 for $5. 00. He participated in shows and has ridden since. He was able to have a horse at the Ross County Fair for 65 years. Glenn has been a member of the Adelphi Community Band since 1947. He has enjoyed playing with several generations of Hinton family members, playing the drum for 74 years, and also served as manager for many of those years. Glenn was a great supporter of the Zane Trace School system. In 1980, Glenn was asked to be an assistant to the Zane Trace boys basketball team. He continued to volunteer with practices, the pee wee program, keeping stats, managing equipment, open gyms, camps, and maintaining the gym facilities. He had seen several changes through the years and the opportunity to go other places. However, at heart Shorty was a true Pioneer and always showed his Pioneer Pride. He was genuinely there for the kids and loved everyone of them. If you needed him, you always knew where he would be, in the gym. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 14, the first anniversary of Sue's passing, at 2:00 pm at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Rev. James Vandagriff officiating. Burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi with military honors provided by the Ross County Veteran's Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 p. m. until the time of the service at Hill's. Martha Jean (Freshour) Gearhart Martha Jean (Freshour) Gearhart, age 96, passed on November 22, 2023 surrounded by family and caregivers in her home. Martha was born at Chillicothe Hospital on December 13, 1926. She attended school in Kingston where she met her future husband, Paul Wendell Gearhart, who preceded her in death in 1998. They wed at The Methodist Church in Kingston, Ohio on December 24, 1946. Martha attended Marietta College and Miami University before her marriage and joined Paul Wendell in farming where they raised crops and livestock. She spent many hours working in the milk parlor and delivering milk, keeping the farm books, raising sows and piglets, and grinding and mixing feed for the cattle she eventually sorted. Martha's love for the farm brought great joy to her life and she shared her agricultural knowledge with many others. Martha served her community in numerous ways. She served on the Ohio Farm Bureau Board for 12 years after serving 20 years on the Ross County Farm Board. The Ag Broadcasting Network selected Martha as Farm Wife of the Week in 1989. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a 75 year member of Eastern Star. Martha was a member of the Circleville Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, deacon and trustee. She also was involved with the soup kitchen, making food for the Blood Mobile, preparation for the May Luncheon and baking for the Cookie Walk at the church. She spent time volunteering in the Berger Hospital Gift Shop and was a poll worker for several elections. Martha supported the Pickaway County Historical Society with time and donations. Martha's servant heart led her to volunteer in many areas, especially square dancing with youth at the Pioneer School in Chillicothe and with the OhioReads program at Pickaway Elementary. She enjoyed working with the youth and was a supporter of Ross County 4-H. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, feeding her farm family, hosting dinners, theatre and antiquing. Martha is survived by her loving children, Suzanne Boren (Bill Castle), David (Mary Lou) Gearhart and John (Janice) Gearhart; her grandchildren, Jacob (Stacey) Gearhart, Jenna (John) Smith and Justin (Chelsea) Gearhart; her great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hayden Gearhart and Henrick and Rhys Smith. Martha is also survived by her nephews, Bruce (Joann) Benzing, James (Donna) Benzing and Martin (Pauline) Benzing. Preceding Martha in death are her parents, Egbert and Glyde Freshour; brother, Tom Freshour; husband, Paul Wendell Gearhart; sister, Nancy Benzing; brother-in-law, James Benzing; nephew, Glenn Benzing; and special cousin, Kathryn Miller. Per her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A memorial service will be held for Martha at a later date yet to be determined. Rosalina Marie Taylor Rosie was born on October 4, 2023. She was a beautiful little girl who had an adorable smile and a contagious laughter. Her parents Alex Mace and Peyton Taylor loved her more than anything in the world even after she left us on October 29, 2023. She lived in Laurelville, Ohio where she was constantly surrounded by people who loved her and her cute little cries. Martha June Chaffin Truman, 85, of Sciotoville, Ohio, and formerly of Kingston, Ohio, became a guest of our Lord on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, after an extended illness. She was born on March 8, 1938, in Pickaway Co. , to the late Perry L. and Hazel (Arledge) Gaines. Aside from her parents, and husband, Paul Truman, who also passed on the same day, of extended illnesses as well, June is predeceased by sisters, Roberta Jividen, Margie Keister, and Doris Hinty; brothers, Larry, and Perry Gaines Jr. ; sons, Mike and Mark Chaffin; stepson, Dale Truman; and husband, Orvil Chaffin. June is survived by sister, Linda McDowell; sons, Terry (Nancy) Chaffin and Tom (Denise) Chaffin; stepdaughters, Angela Burwell and Paula Truman; and daughter-in-law, Amy (Dale) Truman, as well as, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. June raised her family in the Kingston area. She was a great cook; a true friend and second mom to many over the years; an 'avid' cleaner; a painter and wall-paperer for many-a-household throughout the years; and she was a true believer in closeness of family. In her later Kingston-area years, she was employed by DuPont in Circleville. After her retirement, she remarried and moved to the Portsmouth area. June was a member of the Mabert Road Baptist Church in Portsmouth Ohio, and she and Paul were active in the church for many years. Graveside services will be held for June on Wednesday, September 13, at 2 p. m. at Meade Cemetery in Meade, OH, at the direction of HILL FUNERAL HOME of Kingston, OH, with Pastor Fred Chaffin officiating. Charles Wesley Pritchard Jr. Charles Wesley Pritchard Jr. , 84, of Circleville, closed the final chapter of his earthly life on August 31, 2023. Chuck was surrounded by his loved ones on the family farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice; his sisters, Marjorie (George) Heckler and Donna (John) Karshner; and brother, David (Sandy) Pritchard. Left with loving memories are his devoted wife of 63 years, Sharon; children, Lori (Nate) and Charles Matthew (Amy) Pritchard; and his five grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Alyvia (Scott) Posthumus, Cole Clark, Colin Clark, Carly (Alex) Meyer, and Claire Pritchard. He loved and appreciated his in-laws, Michael and Linda Kempton and Jeff and Pam Whitcraft. A graduate of Laurelville High School, he pursued his love of basketball and graduated from Wilmington College where he was honored as the most valuable player on the Quaker basketball team. He received his Master's degree from Xavier University. His dream of coaching basketball was realized with years at Corning, Huntington, and Logan Elm High Schools. He retired from education after 35 years, having also been an elementary principal at Salt Creek and Washington. A man who liked challenges, he served as the Washington Township Clerk and Pickaway County Commissioner. Charles was a member of Pontious United Methodist Church for many years. He also attended Circleville First Church and was an active member of the Gideons. He loved working with young people, and the influence he had on his players and students was evidenced when many of them visited him during his illness. A blessing to all who knew and loved him, Charles will remain forever in their hearts. The family would like to thank Fairhope Hospice for the compassionate and loving care Chuck received during his illness. SueAnne Knisley SueAnne Knisley, 72, of Chillicothe, passed into the arms of her heavenly Lord and Savior on August 24, 2023. She was born on February 16, 1951, in Chillicothe, the daughter of the late Harold L. and Ruth (Carper) Knisley. SueAnne is survived by her sister, Sherry (Dennis) Zeigler. Also left to mourn her passing are niece and nephew, Becky (Chris) Minor and David Evan Zeigler. Aunt "Sue Sue", as they called her, will be missed by great nephews, Evan and Aden Minor. She is also survived by cousins, Rodney (Pam) King, Nancy King, Peggy Kerg, and Bob Alan Knisley; and lifetime friends, Jody Slack and Beth Montgomery. In addition to her parents, SueAnne was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Lex and Hazel Carper, paternal grandparents, Foster and Jesse Knisley, aunt and uncle, Bernice (Ted) King and Charles Carper; her longtime companion, Bruce Wilkinson; and her beloved dog, Ben. SueAnne was a 1969 Zane Trace High School graduate and graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Education. She taught English at Western High School before accepting a position as librarian at Southeastern High School, where she remained until her retirement. She loved playing the piano, playing the guitar and embroidering. She was a lifetime member of the Elks. She had a wonderful sense of humor and dry wit. Before her health issues, she enjoyed being with friends and having a good time. Roger Eugene Minor Roger Eugene Minor, 84, of Laurelville, entered into Heaven on August 5, 2023 at Wyngate of Circleville. He was born November 9, 1938, in Chillicothe, the son of the late Carroll and Evelyn (Fox) Minor. On January 28, 1961, he united in marriage with his loving wife, Clara Jackie (Easterday) Minor, who survives. Roger is also survived by his beloved children, Candy (Donnie) Lee, Holly (Jason) Farris, and Chris (Becky) Minor; grandchildren, Cory and Cody Dunton, Dawson and Avery Farris, and Evan and Aden Minor; sisters, Donna (Russ) Kempton and Nancy (Terry) Chaffin; several nieces and nephews; special friends at Steve's Village Inn and his favorite waitress, Amber Stewart; and numerous other special family members and friends whom he cherished. Roger was a 1956 graduate of Kingston High School. He worked as a farmer for many years and retired from Roadway Express Trucking after 17 years of service. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Buckeyes and the Browns. But, his greatest joy was being a grandpa and spending time with family frying fish and making homemade ice cream. Alice Morgan Congrove Alice Morgan Congrove, of Kingston, Ohio, passed away in the arms of her daughter, Kelly Wiley, and husband, Roy Congrove on her way to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Ohio State University Heart Hospital on April 9, 2023. It was Easter Morning. Alice was born October 30, 1946 in Glasgow, Scotland. Alice met her husband, Roy, in 1968 in Dunoon, Scotland, where Roy was stationed with the U. S. Navy at the Holy Loch Submarine Base. Alice came to America and the couple married in June 1969. She quickly became a loving and loyal member of her new extended family and community. Alice went on to became a proud citizen of the United States in 1976. Having never met a stranger, Alice began her work career at J. C. Penney. She later worked in the banking industry at Dime Bank, Kingston National Bank and eventually retired from the Homeland Credit Union. After retirement, Alice remained active in the local area including the Kingston Mt. Pleasant Church. Together, Alice and Roy proudly raised two children, son, Roy A. Congrove, who passed away in 1999, and daughter, Kelly L. Wiley, of Jackson. Alice is also survived by her pride and joy grandchildren, Morgan Wiley, of Dublin, Emma Wiley, of Columbus, and Andrew Wiley, of Jackson, as well as Kelly's partner, Mike Davis, of Jackson. Also surviving is Alice's life long best friend from Scotland, Nora Rigley and her husband, Norm, of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Alice and Nora spoke on the phone every single night at 9:00 pm for as long as anyone can remember. Local surviving family members include brothers-in-law, Billy Joe (Patty) Congrove, Eldon (Joyce) Congrove, Dean Congrove; sister-in-law, Joyce Bivens; nieces, Cheryl Hoffman and Linda Congrove; nephew, Tom (Kerry) Congrove; and several cousins. Alice was also survived by dear friends and neighbors from the local area including Barry & Jeanne Bennett, Judy Davis, Vicky Rearley, Beth Delong, Patty Seymour, Randy & Kim Pontius, Brad Cline, Delbert & Arlene Poling, Larry Davis, The Golden Girls, her morning walking crew and her many friends at Kingston Mt. Pleasant Church. Additional surviving friends include Margaret & Jim Meehan, of California, and David Drummond, of Canada. Surviving family members from Scotland include nieces, Karen (Kevin ) O'Donnell and Lorraine Gilchrist, as well as, several cousins and friends. In addition to her son, Alice was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Leitch; grandmother, Maria Thompson; sister, Myra Clark; nephew, Gary Clark, all from Scotland; aunt, Jean; cousin, Kathy Fitzsimon; and dear friend, Maureen Drummond, of Canada. She was proceeded in death locally by her mother and father-in-law, Isabele & Eldon Congrove; nephews, Dan Congrove, Mike Congrove and Mike Hoffman. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 3:00 p. m. at Kingston Mount Pleasant Church with Rev. Barry Bennett officiating. No calling hours will be observed.
