November 29, 2023
Leon David Maul, a cherished soul, departed from this world on November 16, 2023, in Baker City, Oregon. He was born on March 4, 1927, in Portland, Oregon, and lived a remarkable 96 years. Leon's journey through life was filled with both dedication and love. As a young man, he attended Vanport College and later served his country with honor in World War II as a member of the United States Air Force in Korea. A true entrepreneur, Leon was self-employed from 1955 to 1992, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and determination. In 1992, he embraced a well-deserved retirement, marking the end of a fulfilling professional chapter. In the sacred bonds of marriage, Leon found joy with Sarah Luella Spenst in Portland, Oregon. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and shared dreams. Leon's devotion to family was evident in his love for gardening, his passion for automobiles, and the joy he found in the company of friends and loved ones. A man of faith, Leon was affiliated with the Lutheran Church, finding solace and strength in his spiritual journey. His time in the Military, serving both in the US Army and US Air Force, stood as a proud accomplishment, reflecting his courage and dedication to his country. Leon will be dearly missed by his survivors: daughters Cathy Kaech of Midvale, Idaho; Tonia Johnson of Baker City, Oregon; Shelley Patterson of Pasco, Washington; Cyndi Maul Hoffman of Lincoln City, Oregon; and son David Maul of Bend, Oregon. His memory lives on through 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Leon is now reunited with his beloved wife, Sarah Luella Maul, as well as his father, David K. Maul, and his mother, Dena Maul, who preceded him in death. As we remember the life of Leon David Maul, let us offer our condolences and support to the grieving family.
