John J. Schaefer, 68, passed away on November 28, 2023 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City, Indiana. He was born on June 20, 1955, to Frank and Katherine (Siegmund) Schaefer, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Marquette High School, Michigan City, in 1973 and received his BS degree from Marquette University in 1977. He was the Marquette Golden Eagles No. 1 fan as he graduated the year the team, then the Warriors, won the national championship-1977. John began his career as a Certified Public Accountant for the Indiana State Board of Accounts and retired from that position after two decades. He then formed John J. Schaefer Certified Public Accountant, P. C. and spent the next 25 years providing accounting services to individuals, not- for- profit organizations and a host of all types of businesses and industries. He served as Controller for Michigan City during the Mayor Oberlie administration. John served on a number of boards and committees including the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, the Marquette Foundation and Members Advantage Credit Union to name a few. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #432 and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Gamma Lambda Chapter. He was also a Trivia Genius traveling with his team throughout La Porte County and winning a number of events. John loved life to the fullest and was a friend to countless people. John is survived by his immediate family: sister Joan (Richard) Haviland, Honeoye Falls, NY, brother Tom and Mary Ann (Carpenter) Schaefer, Baltimore, MD. , sister Marian (Bob) Cline, San Antonio, Texas, brother Dick Schaefer, Michigan City, brother Bob and Jayne (Westbrook) Schaefer, Long Beach and his Lifetime Love Glenda Snyder Valparaiso. Plus, many nephews, nieces, and cousins from all over the Country. Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Queen of all Saints Catholic Church, 606 So. Woodland Ave. , Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. Jordan Fetcko officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours will be Monday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St. Michigan City, Indiana and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Queen of all Saints Legacy Center. HIS Story. . . Kevin D. Black "Pooh" or affectionately called "Kevin Foe" was born December 18, 1993 in Chicago, IL to Brenda Black and Lawrence Bradley. He accepted Christ at an early age attending Salem Baptist Church of Chicago, IL. He attended Wendell Smith Elementary School and graduated from George H. Corliss High School in 2013. Kevin furthered his education at CSI, receiving a degree in information technology. He later attended Mid-City Truck Driving Academy. Kevin was hard-working and dedicated to his family and children. Although Kevin was not born first, he often acted as if he was the oldest and in charge. Kevin was a natural protector of his family. His biggest priorities were his children Kevin" (Major" Black Jr. , and Karmen Wade. Kevin spent an immeasurable amount of time creating memories with them. He spent his free time dressing stylishly and traveling. Kevin was determined to visit every state and country. Kevin transitioned to his heavenly home on November 22, 2023. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Fannie Black, Eugene Cobbinah, Pearl and Larry Bradley, His father: Lawrence Bradley, Great Grandmother: Jessie Ree Black, Uncle: Calvin Black, and his aunt: Eugenia Cobbinah. Kevin is survived by his beloved parents: Brenda Black and Marcus Gary; Grandmother: Laura Nichols; Children: Kevin and Karmen; Sisters: Felecia, Zhabrina, X'Kevia, Jada, and Alicia; brothers: Keith, Marcus, and Quentin; Uncle: Steven Black; Aunt: Marilyn; Nieces and nephews: Aniyah, Nakea, Keith Jr. , Khia, Zion, Kaleb, Kamden, Ziah, Aunestee, and a unborn nephew: Boogie; his Girlfriend: Jakayla and a host of cousins and extended family members. He was born July 29, 1959 in Michigan City, IN to the late Henry and Jerre (Blankenship) Deutscher. On December 19, 1981 in Rolling Prairie, IN he married Lisa Blake who survives in La Porte, IN. Surviving are two daughters, Lindsey (Nicole) Deutscher of New Carlisle, IN and Ashley (Richard) Kroeger of Wentzville, MO; son, Joshua (Desiree) Deutscher of Rolling Prairie, IN; five grandchildren, Emily, Aubrey, Andrew, Cooper and Gracie; three sisters, Gayle Argenzio, Jean (Richard) Jeffrey and Sharon (Bud) Will all of Fort Myers, FL; two brothers, Roy (Cindy) Deutscher of Rolling Prairie, IN and Rodney (Michael) Zeedyk of Joliet, IL; and his in-laws, Jack and Sharon Blake of Rolling Prairie, IN. Bill was a mason contractor working for Austin Masonry. He was a member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church, Rolling Prairie, IN. Wanda Lee Wallen, 74 years old of Knox, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 in Michigan City, Indiana. She was born Wednesday, September 14, 1949 in Tip Top , Kentucky, Daughter of the late Grover Mullins and the late Elsie(Rowe) Mullins. Wanda was a member of Community Gospel Baptist Church. She loved being surrounded by her family, serving God, quilting, cooking and being with her beloved dogs, Casper and Gracie. She always said she never met a stranger. On December 24, 1968, Wanda first married Glenn Howard, who survives and who she remained friends with throughout their life. On January 30, 1987, Wanda married William Joseph "Bill" Wallen, he preceded her on July 10, 2022. Surviving are Daughter, Rhonda(Ron Bauer) Stacy of Knox, Indiana, Daughter, Amber Wallen of Knox, Indiana, Honorary daughter, Susan Allen of Knox, Indiana, Grandson, Aaron Lee(Elani) Stacy of Knox, Indiana, Granddaughter, Elizabeth(Derrick) Howard of Knox, Indiana, Great-grandchildren: Brady Stacy, Aaron Lee Stacy Jr. , Oliver Stacy and Amelia Howard all of Knox, Indiana, Brother, Charles Mullins of Toto, Indiana, Brother, Ray Mullins of Salyersville, Kentucky, Brother, Sam Mullins of Salyersville, Kentucky, Sister, Mae Mullins of Tip Top , Kentucky, Sister, Kathy Miller of Union City, Ohio, Sister, Dora(Kenny) Jospeh of Royalton, Kentucky, Sister, Mollie(Johnny) King of Salyersville, Kentucky and many nieces and nephews- a lot of whom she helped raise.
