Gertrude Martin Rozantz It is with an extremely sad heart that we announce the passing of our mother, Gert Rozantz As Gert would say, " I cashed in my last winning ticket on Thursday, October 5, 2023 " Gert was born in Trafford, Pa on July 1, 1932 She attended Norwin High School and wants it to be known that she was a head majorette for the band, played basketball, and was really good looking! If you don't know, she had a wonderful sense of humor We are so grateful that she was on this earth for 91 years, but it still wasn't long enough She absolutely loved her family, football, horse racing, and gambling I think she saw more football games than anyone alive, between little gridders, high school, college, pro games, and every weekend on the tv She even won the Erie Times football poll once She absolutely loved sports and that was passed on to all of us She adored going to the racetrack especially back in the days of the old Commodore Downs where her husband Walt owned and trained horses Needless to say, she was good at betting but not always winning! She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto Martin & Lyda Sharp Martin VanAtten, her stepfather, Harry VanAtten, her husband Walter Rozantz, her "son" Armand Sadlier, and her beloved dogs, Sam, Callie, Major, Heidi, Shadow, Ginger as well as Emily the cat (even though no body liked that damn cat, and the way she attacked you, I'm not even sure she liked you! But she's worth a mention ) She would also have liked to have mentioned that she adored her friends Shirley Gardner and Marie Gresh who passed on ahead of her and hopefully are holding a spot for her for movie night She is survived by her children, Walter R (Rick) Rozantz (Gail), Thomas Rozantz (Cathy), Cheryl Dalton Grandchildren Erin Dalton, Chris Nunez, Andrea Patton, Casey Patton, Taylor Rozantz, Derek Rozantz, and Raven Rozantz Great grandchildren, Oliver, Jack & Elsie Nunez, as well as many nieces and nephews She will also be greatly missed by her best friend and scrabble partner Veronica Regel We also must include her other "son" Larry Loper He spent so much time at our house my Mom just sort of thought of him as one of her own Everyone that knew her loved her and she will be missed beyond measure She was especially grateful to the friends she made at Martin's Landing that looked out for her and Rita who brought her those wonderful meals, desserts, and adult beverages at night and truly made her feel loved And a special thank you to Debbie and Patty who took great care of her If you want to honor her, do it by placing a bet the next time you are at the racetrack, on any horse with the name Prince in it, any grey horse, or any horse Tom or Cathy run, or her lucky numbers 2 &6 If it wins, have a drink on her and donate the rest to the Anna Shelter She would have really liked that There will be no viewing hours, because she didn't want it, but we will have a celebration of a life well lived in the Spring Gert loved a good time, lots of laughter, drinking, and dancing, and wanted everyone to know, as Frank Sinatra said, "She did it her way" Rest in Peace Mom, you earned it To to the family or in memory of Gertrude M Rozantz, please

"God wrought splendidly and gave to earth a gentleman. " John Calvin Hunter, age 95, passed peacefully entering the realm of Glory on Friday, the 1st of December 2023. He was 95 years of age. Born on the 9th of April 1928, in Columbia, Tennessee to Edgar & Cordie Mai Hunter, he lived up to the above tribute from his high school yearbook his whole life. Losing both of his parents in his young teens, he and his sister, Mary Alice, lived on his grandparent's farm. As well as working on the farm, he excelled in high school and was President of his class '45-'46. He graduated from George Peabody College (now part of Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee in 1949 with a BS degree in Chemistry & Biology. While at Peabody, he met the love of his life, Frances Winder, from Gainesville, Texas. They married in 1950, moved to Houston, and had two children, John & Pamela. John worked for Curtin Matheson Scientific for 25 years and then for his good friend, Max Grigsby, at Max Grigsby Company (MGC) both specializing in scientific laboratory equipment and outfitting laboratories. John joined Central Church of Christ when he moved to Houston in 1950 and then became a founding member of Bering Drive Church of Christ where he has been a devoted member for over 60 years. For 23 years, as part of the church's ministry, he and Frances volunteered at the Hospitality Apartments serving as Volunteer Coordinators as well as Trustees and Advisors. The Hospitality Apartments provide free temporary accommodation and a supportive environment to long term, out of town patients of the Texas Medical Center in Houston. This service and ministry have been such a blessing for so many patients and their families. John also served many years as a Boy Scout leader positively impacting many boys' lives. He and Frances were involved in American Field Service (AFS) where they coordinated the accommodation of international exchange students with local families and indeed hosted two students themselves. John lived a life filled with love and service. John was predeceased by Frances, his wife of 70 years; and his sister, Mary Alice Cathey of Quitman, Texas. He is survived by his son, John Hunter and his wife Susan Miertschin; daughter, Pamela and her husband Roger Davis; grandchildren, Jill Hunter, Julie Hunter, Robert Hunter, Joey Hunter, Courtney Aho, Brendan Davis, Alexandra Davis; great-grandchildren, Isabel Asher, Rose Asher, Avery Aho, Cody Aho, Beckett Aho, and Adelaide Davis. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 6th of December, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. A Memorial Service celebrating John's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 7th of December, at Bering Drive Church of Christ, 1910 Bering Drive in Houston. Rose ScannapiecoRose Scannapieco (Lavery), 70, passed from this earth on Wednesday, November 28, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph, their two sons, Ralph Michael Jr. , NicholasJames, and sister Margaret Miles. Rose was born July 11, 1953 in South Shore Hospital, Bayshore, New York, the oldest child ofof Mr. And Mrs. James J. Lavery. She had two younger siblings, sister Margaret and brotherJames. The family lived in Kings Park, New York. Rose attended Saint Jospeh's Catholic Elementary and Holy Family Catholic Middle schoolsbefore transitioning to Kings Park High School, graduating in 1971. Rose and Ralph Scannapieco were married in July of 1972. They resided and raised theirfamily in Kings Park, New York until April of 2020, when they decided to finally move to MyrtleBeach, South Carolina, fulfilling Rose's dream of new home in the area. Rose worked as a Geriatric Therapy Aide at the New York State Psychiatric Center for 13Years, where she lovingly cared for elderly patients. After the birth of Nicholas and being a stayat home mom for a short period, she started a new career in the Kings Park High School'scommissary program where she became the school's Head Cook. She was employed there forover 30 years and took great pride in supporting the nutritional needs of the attendingstudents. She was loved and appreciated by the area youth for her efforts to provide them withtasty and nutritious meal options. She was recognized and respected in the local community. Rose had a creative flair and enjoyed decorating her homes and restoring old furniture. Sheenjoyed traveling but preferred being home with family and friends. She will be deeply missedby all those who knew and loved her.Show more

Margaret A. (Peggy) Flores, 86, of Aransas Pass, Texas passed from this earth on December 1, 2023. Peggy was born in New York City as the only daughter to Mary and Richard on August 1, 1937. She received her education in New York and New Jersey, as well as Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. She married Robert (Bob) Flores in 1954 and they began their family together creating a lifetime of memories and laughter. Peggy started her professional career as a runner at the New York Stock Exchange and later became a computer instructor for seven years. In 1978, the family migrated to Kansas where she was a payroll manager for 32 years. She lived in Hutchinson and then Olathe until her retirement in 2001. Peggy was a true professional in every aspect and highly regarded by employers and coworkers alike. In 2010, another migration brought Peggy and her loving husband Bob to the Coastal Bend North Bay Area. Peggy was a fantastic cook and had many hobbies over the years. Her favorite was to knit and crochet, gifting uncountable scarves, afghans, and baby sweaters or blankets to treasure. She was also an avid reader, especially mystery novels. She also enjoyed taking photographs of family and friends at every chance. Peggy was a wonderful wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother and will be dearly missed by many. Preceding in death are her parents in New York City and one granddaughter, Leah Cox from Ingleside, Texas. She is survived by her lover and best friend of 69 years: Bob; their 5 children: Robert Flores (Theresa) from Manhattan, Kansas; Kathleen Schmidt (Cameron) from Ingleside, Texas; Victoria Flores from Aransas Pass, Texas; Sharon Thornhill (David) from Hutchinson, Kansas; and David Flores (Shelia) from Ingleside, Texas. In addition, left to cherish her memories are 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Aransas Pass on December 29, 2023, 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life and gathering will follow the service at The Moose Lodge, Hwy 2725, Aransas Pass, Texas. Gail Martin Sebastian (nee Patricia Gail Martin) departed this Earth to be with the Lord on December 4, 2023. She was a resident of Sonoma, CA. Born in Elkin, NC, and reared in Ronda, NC. Gail was born to parents Bland and Louise Martin (nee Poplin). Gail grew up working on her family's tobacco farm. She graduated from East Wilkes High School, and eventually studied at Appalachian State Teacher's College, where she received an English degree. She was introduced by her dearest friend Evonne Bryant, to her future husband, Phillip Sebastian, whom she married in 1966. She and Phillip raised their two children, Brian and Gena outside North Wilkesboro. A lifelong woman of faith, Gail was a member of her church, St. Andrew Presbyterian, in Sonoma, CA, and prior, Grace Community Church in West Jefferson, NC. Gail possessed many talents and mastered many crafts, including cooking, sewing, painting, playing the piano, quilting, gardening, and just about any other task she undertook. Gail was known for her great kindness to friends and strangers alike, whom she always welcomed with a warm smile. She is predeceased by her husband Phillip Eugene Sebastian, and her brother J. Steven Martin of Clemmons. She is survived by her son, Brian Sebastian of Sonoma, CA; her sister-in-law Ann Sebastian of North Wilkesboro NC; and grandchildren Seth Carpenter, Jaren Carpenter, and Geneva Carpenter Burns, all of Chicago, IL. She also leaves behind a multitude of folks whose lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. Floyd Mae Holley 80, of Portsmouth, VA, made her transition peacefully from earth to glory on November 27th, 2023. Born December 29, 1942 in Southampton County, VA to the late Rev. Peter Boykins Jr and Lillie Whitehead. She was the youngest of 5 children. Floyd Mae attended Southampton County Public Schools and worked at Autumn Care Nursing Facility for a number of years. In addition to her mother and father, she was predeceased by her three sisters and brother; Della Mae Pope, Ellen Williams, Lutelia Scott, and brother Peter W. Boykins. Floyd Mae leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Anita Harris of Virginia Beach, VA and Mae Cofield of Suffolk, VA. She also leaves behind five grandchildren; Cheri Goodman, Rashad Johnson (Monet), Jamar Johnson, Trashon Johnson, and Kimberly Goodman; six great-grandchildren, Avieona Eley, Todd Johnson, Tatiayanna Harrison, Justice Goodman, Sean Johnson, and Mya Goodman; her loving nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.Show more

Tami Lou Christiansen was born on March 5, 1955 in Salt Lake City to Lynn and Jackie Burningham. She was the oldest of four children. She left this earth peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of November 30, 2023. Words cannot describe how heartbroken we are. Tami grew up in the Holladay area and graduated from Skyline High School in 1973. She married Richard Dahlquist (later divorced) and they had two children, Keli and Lance. She married Rolf Christiansen in 1998 until his passing. She reconnected with her high school friend, Barry Coster in 2013, and they enjoyed these last ten years together in Evanston, Wy. She loved living the small town life. Tami worked in the Jordan and Granite school districts for most of her adult life. However, the most important role to her was being a mother and grandmother. Her kids and grandkids were everything to her. We have no idea how we are going to get through life without her by our side. Her family would like to thank her for her unconditional love, her support, and her endless hours of making us laugh. There are so many things to share about her. Her ability to trip over nothing was an art form, she loved to travel, she gave excellent advice, she loved anything sweet (mom you’re busted, we found your secret candy drawer), she had an addiction to home décor stores (she never left them empty handed) and she loved to spend as much time as she could with her grandkids in Omaha. Whenever the kids were asked who they loved most, they always said Grandma Tami. She was just a fun person to be around. One of our last conversations was her granddaughter asking her if this is the parking lot she almost fell on her face and her replying "you’re going to have to be a bit more specific, I have almost ate it in many parking lots". We all cried laughing. That is how we are going to remember her, laughing. She is survived by her daughter Keli (Dan) Seder, three grandchildren, Ben, Brady and Kate, sisters Trina Burningham and Teri Schneider, brother Todd (Cheryl) Burningham, her partner Barry Coster and his family, many nieces, nephews and friends who all adored her. She is proceeded in death by her son, Lance Dahlquist and parents, Lynn and Jackie Burningham. An open house celebration honoring Tami’s life will be held for family and friends on Friday, December 8th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 E. 7800 S. "IN MEMORY OF: VIRGIE PARRISH Serving Location: CRAIN PLEASANT GROVE-MURDALE FUNERAL HOME 31 Memorial Drive (Old Route 13), Murphysboro, Illinois Born in Newbern, Tennessee on Tater Hill Road, Virgie was the seventh of eight children. At the time of her passing, she was 86 years old. Both of her children, all five of her grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter, were beside her as she peacefully departed this earth for her Heavenly home. Her parents, Gaines and Dollie Mae Johnston, preceded her in death, as well as her husband, Homer Quentin Parrish. Additionally, all seven siblings (Loyal Gray, Brite Johnston, Toy Norwood, Sweetie Richardson, Tincie Ferguson, Taylor Johnston, and Angel Cole) also passed before her. She is survived by both her daughter, Lynanne V. Parrish (Carbondale, IL) and her son, Jeffrey Q. Parrish (St. Louis, MO). , as well as five grandchildren (Tiffany L. Kesler (Waterloo, IL), Brooke A. Lott (Orlando, FL), Paxton Q. Parrish, Preston J. Parrish and Presley R. Parrish (St. Louis, MO), and great-grandchildren, Scarlett Lyn Kesler-Green, Myla N. Lott and Caiden J. Lott. A beloved and retired Music and Art teacher, Mrs. Parrish retired in 1998 from De Soto Grade School, where she taught for 39 years. Prior to that position, she taught at Cave-In-Rock, Lick Creek and Johnston City (all in Illinois). Upon retirement, Virgie continued to teach the gifted classes at De Soto Grade School, as well as give hundreds of children piano, vocal and instrumental lessons over the years. A highly accomplished individual, after graduating as Valedictorian of her high school class, she put herself through Bethel College in Tennessee. While working full-time, she earned dual B. S. degrees in both Music Education and Business Education, and she earned the title of Valedictorian of her graduating class. Her knowledge and her talents expanded well beyond her formal education, as she believed one should continue to educate themselves throughout their lifetime. She began painting lessons, and that became one of her favorite hobbies. Virgie also had an extensive knowledge of politics, history, and world geography. She and her husband would revel in conversations on a nightly basis. As a devout Christian, Virgie was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, until its closure. She then became an active member of Grace Methodist Church in Carbondale. Her presence will be forever felt there; every life she touched has been blessed beyond measure. She was truly an angel on earth, who is now singing with the angels in Heaven. Funeral Services for Virgie Parrish will be Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 10:00 am in Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale with Pastor Marty McMichael. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home. J. L. Beaird, 94, went to sleep on earth and awoke in heaven, December 3, 2023. J. L. was born in Lufkin, Texas, December 4, 1928. He married his wife of 61 years, Prebble Nunn Beaird, February 9, 1957. Together, they lived most of their lives in Lufkin, Texas, before relocating to Waco, Texas, in 2013. He was ordained a deacon at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas, and later served as deacon of First Baptist Church, Lufkin. After moving to Waco, he was a member of First Woodway Baptist Church. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He received his Professional Engineer license by the State of Texas in 1961. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in Lufkin, Texas, for 40 years, where he retired as District Engineer. During his career, he designed and oversaw the construction of many highways and bridges in East Texas which will serve as monuments of his work and the work of his fellow engineer colleagues at TxDOT with whom he loved and viewed as family. He was an Eagle Scout. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He loved to read and was a life-long learner. Anyone he met became his new friend. He loved sports and was an avid Houston Astros fan. He loved his family. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them and celebrating their activities and accomplishments. He was known for his infectious, unique laugh which he shared often. He is preceded in death his wife Prebble Nunn Beaird, parents Jessie Lafayette and Flora Scott Beaird, and brother Scotty Beaird. He is survived by his daughter Carrie Beaird of Plano, Texas, his son Dr. Mark Beaird and wife Beth Harrell Beaird of Woodway, Texas, and grandchildren Andrew Beaird, Philip Beaird, and Rebekah Beaird. A celebration of life will be held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery Chapel, in Lufkin, Texas on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 3:00 p. m. with Reverend Leslie Hollis officiating. Visitation will be before the service at 2:00. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of the Heartis Waco and Bluebonnet Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not for I am with thee, . . . for I am thy God". Catherine Darter Fletcher Haynes, of Gate City, VA, passed away from this earth on December 4, 2023. She was born February 6, 1929 to the late Peter Haynes Darter, Sr. and Lena Kate McDavid Darter. The following siblings preceded her in death, PH Darter, Jr. , Virginia Barber, William "Bill" Darter, Pauline Collins, Hiram Darter, and Elizabeth Fields. Catherine was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil H. Fletcher (1965); and her second husband Charles Patton "Pat" Haynes, Sr. (1997). The Haynes children preceding her in death were Emma Jean Haynes, Charles Patton "Shorty" Haynes, Jr. , Peggy Grimm and Nancy Shelton. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer F. and Danny Rhea Meade; sister, Mary (Tommy) Fields; sister-in-law, Dorothy Darter; and daughter, Carol Sue Haynes Billings Grimm. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, Haynes grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank her caregivers the past few years for their kindness, help and support shown to Catherine and her family; Verdie Oris, Sue Wade, Helen Page, Mt. Empire Older Citizens -Dorothy Darnell, and most recently the staff of Nova Health and Rehab Center especially her nurse Debbie Arnold.
