Gerard Knapke, age 86 of Van Wert died Friday, September 8, 2023 at Hearth and Home in Van Wert. He was born September 11, 1937 in Coldwater to the late Clarence "Dick" & Anna (Uhleman) Knapke. On June 6, 2006 he married Alice Knapke and she survives in Van Wert. He is also survived by children, Kirk & Laurie Knapke of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Kory Knapke of Los Angeles, California; step-children,Pam & Berry Barnard of Columbus, Bobby & Lori Schlosser of Tennessee, Teresa & Mike Staas of Dayton, and Tami Kercher of ????; three grandchildren, Benjamin & Kalyn Knapke, Alexander & Marissa Knapke, and Kenneth & Mckenzie Knapke; and two great-grandchildren, Collin and Kendall Knapke. He was preceded in death by a daughter Kelli Knapke. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to family friend Deb Mace Ray. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. He was a founding Grand Knight of the Van Wert Knights of Columbus 6034 and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was also a Moose Lodge member, an organist at the Elks club for 45 years and a member of the Gold Wings Road Rider Association. . Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 16 at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Shirley M. Rammel, age 86, of St. Henry, died on Friday, December 1, 2023, at The Gardens at St. Henry. She was born on March 19, 1937, in Celina, to the late Kenneth and Caroline (Froning) Chrisman. On September 8, 1962, Shirley married Kenneth Rammel. Ken and Shirley were happily married for over 61 years. Ken survives in St. Henry. Shirley is also survived by five children, Joyce & Greg Gepfrey of Kettlersville, Patrick & Kimberly Rammel of New Bremen, Keith & Paula Rammel of North Star, Vicki Topp of St. Henry, and Sharon & Bryan Kinninger of Anna, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and in-laws, Gene & Kitty Buschur of Coldwater. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by in-laws: Ruth & Sylvester Hartke, Dorothy Rammel, Maurice & Joan Rammel, and Charlene & Ralph "Cappy" Stammen. Shirley was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Red Hat Ladies in St. Henry. She was a homemaker and babysat for numerous children over the years. Shirley loved to cook and bake. She also enjoyed reading and decorating for the holidays. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Monday, December 4, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church. Richard J. Moeder, age 94, of St. Henry, died on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at The Gardens at St. Henry. He was born to the late Julius and Anna (Winkeljohn) Moeder on April 6, 1929. Rich was born at home and lived almost his entire life in the same farmhouse just outside of St. Henry. Rich is survived by a brother, Lee & Jeanette Moeder of Maria Stein, a sister Rose Ann Siefring of Philothea, and a sister-in-law, Rose Moeder of St. Henry. In addition to his parents, Rich is preceded in death by siblings and in-laws: Marcella & Al Larger, Mary Moeder, Rita & Paul Jones, Norbert & Roberta Moeder, Ruth & Fred Krebs, Victor Moeder, Jerry & Marilyn Moeder, Sr. Mary Julian Moeder C. P. P. S. , Charles Moeder, and Roger Siefring. Rich was a lifelong farmer, a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from the former New Idea factory in Coldwater after 43 years. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the St. Henry Knights of Columbus, the St. Henry American Legion Post 648, and the Coldwater VFW. Rich loved to golf and was a former member of the Mercer County Elks. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cincinnati Bengals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church. Thomas Frank Niekamp, age 95, of St. Henry died peacefully early Saturday morning November 18, 2023, at his home in St. Henry. Tom was born June 17, 1928, in Celina to the late Andrew and Alma (Bertke) Niekamp. On October 15, 1949, he married his first and only love, Mary (Beckman) Niekamp. Together Tom and Mary were happily married for over 74 years, and Mary survives at their home in St. Henry. Tom is also survived by his children; Joan Fescoe of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Ann (Howard) Stammen, William (Joanne) Niekamp, Peg (Phil) Fullenkamp all of St. Henry, Cathy (Jerry) Wenning of Celina, and Jim (Julie) Niekamp of St. Henry. Also surviving Tom are 21 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Kathleen (Jerry) Pulskamp, Phyllis Miller, and Jim (Margie) Niekamp. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by a granddaughter Susan Fescoe, a great-grandchild Ashley Bohman, a son-in-law Andrew Fescoe, as well as siblings and in-laws: Ethel (Elmer) Rinderle, Les (Beverly) Niekamp, Paul (Dottie) Niekamp, Joan (Maurice) Rammel, Andrew Niekamp, Joe Miller, Betty and Harold Thieman, and Pat and Wally Post. Tom was a managing partner of the Minster Canning Company where he spent the bulk of his working career. He was an avid golfer, bridge player, and an accomplished woodworker creating numerous toys, clocks, and Nativity cribs for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of his great joys was working in his yard and garden. He will be remembered most for his gentle nature, his humble wisdom, his kind disposition, and his caring and compassionate personality. He was a deeply religious man whose faith inspired the virtue of several generations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the St. Henry Cemetery. Alberta "Bertie" Bruns, age 85, of St. Sebastian died on Saturday, November 11, 2023 in Coldwater, Ohio. She was born on September 18, 1938 in Osgood to the late Joseph & Cecilia (Bruening) Frey. On April 12, 1958 in St. Nicholas Church, Osgood she married Willard Bruns and he survives in St. Sebastian. She is survived by children, Connie & Ed Klenke of Carthagena, Cindy & Jerry Bruns of St. Henry, Diana & Ted Kleinhenz of St. Henry, Duane Bruns of St. Sebastian, and Barb & Marvin Guggenbiller of St. Henry; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, 1 great-great grandchild and 1 on the way, and siblings and in-laws, Bernadette Frey of Dayton, Bernice Frey of Osgood, Walter Braun of Maria Stein, Gene & Jeannie Bruns of Maria Stein, Evelyn Bensman of McCartyville, Wilma Bruns of St. Henry, Dennis & Elaine Bruns of New Bremen, Mary Ellen & Paul Gagel of Maria Stein, John & Irene Bruns of Maria Stein, Lois & Nick Kremer of St. Peter and Mark & Cindy Bruns of Ft. Bertie was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, St. Sebastian Ladies Sodality, member of the St. Sebastian Church choir for 50 years, the Marion Cluster Resurrection Choir and a Sacristan for 40 years. She was a graduate of Minster High School. She was formerly employed at New Idea and retired from Dr. Shanthi's office. She was also a member of the Maria Stein American Legion Auxiliary, where she held two terms as president. An Avid fan of the Marion Local Flyers, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. Bertie Loved camping, tending her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a former 4H advisor of Sewers and Growers of Chickasaw. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 15, at 10:30am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery. Donald F. Evers, age 88, of New Bremen and formerly of St. Henry died peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen. He was born June 16, 1935, in Coldwater to the late Sebastian & Alvina (Hoying) Evers. On May 18, 1957, he married Verena (Stammen) Evers, and she survives in New Bremen. Don is also survived by six children, Jeff Evers of Maplewood, Chris & Kathy Evers of New Bremen, Janel & Mark Piekenbrock of Westerville, Dan & Dawn Evers of Pleasant Hill, Dale Evers and fiance Josie Smith of Tipp City, and Cheryl & Scott Flood of New Bremen. Also surviving Don are his 16 grandchildren: Ryan, Brad, and Kyle Evers, Jessica Marquis, Katie Marcum, Brian, and Michael Piekenbrock, Maria Evers, Ashlyn Eldridge, Joshua Evers, Theresa, Sophia, Mara, Adam, Kateri, and Liam Flood, as well as seven great grandchildren, a sister Jeanette Siefring, and a sister-in-law Kathy Stammen. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Evers, an infant grandson, Christopher Evers, a brother Gerald Evers, and in-laws: Lavern Siefring, Lester & Viola Stammen, Joan & Francis Pax, Bertha Stammen, Mildred Stammen, and David & Barb Stammen. Don was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry. He graduated from St. Henry High School as well as Miami Jacobs Business College in Dayton. Don was a farmer and had worked at the former New Idea factory in Coldwater, as well as the St. Henry Bank. He was a member of the St. Henry Knights of Columbus and of the former Kiwanis Club that became The Heritage Club in St. Henry. John R. Kittle, age 84, of St. Henry died on Friday, November 10, 2023, at The Gardens at St. Henry. He was born on May 31, 1939, in Celina to the late Vera (Gordon) Kittle and Naaman Kittle. On January 30, 1999, he married Patricia (Evers- Seger). John graduated from Celina High School and then served in the U. S. Navy for four years. He went on to serve his community as a fireman for the Celina Fire Department until he retired. After retiring he drove a truck for Pax Machine. John enjoyed dancing with his wife Pat and going to antique engine shows. He was a veteran, and a member of the Celina VFW and the Celina American Legion. John is survived by his wife Pat, six stepchildren, Frank & Bev Seger, Diane & Jonathan Schoch, Sara & Dave Bruening, Fred & Jessica Seger, Mary & Joe Wendel, and June & Joe Siefring, and numerous step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Sam, Gordon, Jim, and Jerry Kittle and Martha Claxton. Stephen P. Lefeld, age 72, of Coldwater/Montezuma, died on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater. He was born March 29, 1951 in Coldwater to the late Paul Sr. & Rose Mary (Tangeman) Lefeld. On December 9 ,1972 he married Diane Wendel and she survives. Steve is survived by children, Brent & Angela Lefeld of Coldwater, Kristen & Lee Johnson of Columbus; grandchildren, Owen, Alex, Carter Lefeld, Kaylee, & Cameron Johnson; siblings and in-laws, Jane & Jeff Snellenberger of Florida, Judy & Jerry Marbaugh of Celina, Sue & Jerry Myers of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mike & Marty Lefeld, Ken & Brenda Lefeld, Dan & Joan Lefeld, Carol & Steve Feltz, all of Coldwater and Connie & Todd Troutwine of Arcanum, a sister-in-law, Lisa Lefeld & Kevin Schwieterman of Coldwater; in laws, Ralph & Sue Wendel of Coldwater, Donna & Greg Werst of Arkansas, Ken & Deb Wendel of Portland, IN, Shirley & Tom Mathewson of Coldwater, Mary & Mike Dupes of St. Marys, and Bob & Julie Wendel of Coldwater. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Ava Lefeld; a brother Paul Lefeld Jr. , a sister Mary Rose Lefeld; and parents-in-law Urban & Viola (Wuebker) Wendel. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, Coldwater K of C, Celina Eagles, & Mercer County Elks. He retired in 2020 after 52 years from the Lefeld Implement/KennFeld Group in Coldwater where he worked as an Owner and Sales Manager. Steve served as a Director and president of the Peoples Bank Company, on the Mercer Health board of Governors and MED Foundation and currently president of Venture Lynx in Celina. He also volunteered his time to the former Fresh Water Boaters Association on Grand Lake. Steve loved golfing and traveling with friends and family, watching sunsets from his pontoon on Grand Lake, & following the Coldwater Cavaliers and Ohio State Buckeyes. His most important time was spent with his children and grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Phyllis E. Schroer, age 87, of St. Henry, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at The Gardens at St. Henry. She was born November 9, 1935, in Ohio City, Ohio, to the late Roy & Maxine (Dibert) Witten. On September 14, 1963, she married Paul Schroer, and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2022. Phyllis is survived by children, Diane & Jerry Watercutter of McCartyville, David & Dianna Schroer of Auburn, IN, and Doris Schroer of Dayton, six grandchildren, Michael & Katie Watercutter, Brad & Shae Watercutter, Ben & Emily Selhorst, Kevin & Leela Schroer, Jamie & R. J. Wilson, and Amy Schroer, and eight great grandchildren with two on the way. Other surviving family members include Phyllis' siblings and in-laws, Donald & Linda Witten of Ohio City, and Hugh Witten of Tipp City, Jeanette Schroer of Bradenton, FL, Richard & Jean Schroer of Coldwater, and Mary Brunswick of Ormand Beach. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, as well as siblings and in-laws, Dorothy & John Beck, Pete & Bonnie Witten, Ralph Schroer, and Larry Brunswick. Phyllis was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and retired from the former Huffy factory in Celina, where she had worked in the office. She was a former 4-H advisor for many years, and she was an avid Bingo and card player. Phyllis loved spending time with her family, especially cheering on her grandchildren at any of their sporting events and activities. Phillip L Burker, age 68, of Coldwater OH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home with his wife and granddaughter at his side. He was born on September 16, 1955, to the late Charles & Helen (Lightner) Burker. On February 2, 2006, he married his loving wife, Cerina Burker (Butler) and she currently presides in Coldwater. Phil also lives on and through his children; Nick (Jennifer) Burker, Ecco Burker, Constance (Justin) Slavin, Jessica Mckeever, Pam King, Dawn Burker, Amanda (Lewis) Burker, Samantha Walters, Tiffany Paul, Adalee Burker, Barret Burker, and Da'Ron Jones, as well as many grand and great-grandchildren. Phil is also survived by his loving sister Mickey (Gary) Taylor, and their children and grandchildren. Phil is adored and effortlessly loved by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phil was rejoined with his brothers, Jack Burker, Jerry Burker, and Denny Burker. Phil's brothers helped him find his way to peace. Phil was a city boy who turned country, that in turn, loved to fish, hunt, and be outside. He will be missed by anyone that has the pleasure of his company. He loved having us all get together, and the joy the CRAZINESS brought into his heart. He and Cerina had 28 long years to create the beautifully, BLENDED family we have all grown to become. He is loved unconditionally by all his children as well as grand and great grandchildren,A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be privately held October 27th, 2023.
