He was a proud Vietnam War veteran, returning about once a month for the next several years. He was serving at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas when he met an Air Force Nurse named Kathy. They married on July 4, 1961. They chose that date because they knew they would always have that day off so that they could celebrate their anniversary. They raised their family and lived in several states over the years. He officially retired and began a new phase of life as a Retiree. Ron and Kathy loved to travel, whether it was in their RV, on a cruise ship, or in an airplane. There were so many places that Ron wanted to show Kathy. They traveled through Arizona in the early 1990s and loved it so much that they never left.
