Gerald Anthony Posey, age 72 of Buchanan, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Born at home in Buchanan, Georgia, on Wednesday, August 9, 1950, he was the son of the late Roger Linton Posey and the late Margie Christine Shepard Posey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Posey; a grandson, Dakota Sanders; a sister, Peggy Posey; and a brother, Linton Posey. Drafted by the United States Army, Gerald served and was stationed in Viet Nam. He worked in construction most of his life and was a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church. In his early years, Gerald was known for his talent of playing the guitar and organ by ear. He was a member of several bands and most notably at one time played the organ for Roy Orbison and his band. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite pastimes, with many mounted deer heads as trophies. He and his wife, Vickie, also enjoyed hunting for and collecting arrowheads. He loved his family and was a proud father and grandfather Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 45 years, Vickie Teal Posey; his sons, Gerald Posey, Jr. of Stockbridge and Brent Posey of Buchanan; his daughter, Lindsay Posey of Mt. Zion; his sisters, Margie Posey of Buchanan and Cathy (Jon) Cox of South Georgia; and his brother, Paul Posey of Buchanan. Also surviving are his precious grandchildren: Kameron Reid, Jessica Posey and Brianna Posey, as well as other family members. Funeral services for Gerald Posey will be conducted Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 2:00 pm from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery in Buchanan. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8;00 pm.
