Mass of Christian burial for Gerald "Jerry" L. Cox, 79, of Brandon, SD, formerly of Fairmont, MN, will be 11:00 a. m. Monday, June 27, 2022, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will be following the service in Calvary Cemetery with full military graveside honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1222. Visitation will be 3:00 p. m. to 5:00 p. m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Jerry passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at his home in Brandon, SD. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. Gerald "Jerry" L. Cox was born on December 28, 1942, in Fairmont, MN, the son of Roy M. and Viola C. (Streit) Cox. Jerry received his education attending school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1960. Following his graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy on June 18, 1960, and received his basic training at the Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois. He would be assigned to the USS Shangri-La CVA38 Aircraft Carrier that was stationed off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Once stateside, Jerry was stationed in Sanford, FL, and on December 28, 1963, received his honorable discharge and returned home to Minnesota. On October 9, 1965, Jerry was united in marriage to Karen Parker in Fairmont, MN. Together the couple would make their home in Fairmont and later Brandon, SD, and were blessed with 4 daughters, Robin, Jennifer, Malissa and Amy. Jerry worked as a painter and also in middle management for Tyco Plastics and its predecessors until his retirement on April 1, 2005. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed warm summer days spent on the lake fishing and looked forward to the change of seasons and the excitement of hunting season. Jerry was also passionate about traveling and treasured the many memories made with family and friends over the years in their adventures. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Karen Cox of Brandon, SD; daughter, Robin (Chris) Cometa of Villa Rica, GA, Jennifer (Rick) Behne of Sherburn, MN, Malissa (Mark) Anderson of Cylinder, IA, and Amy (Jeremy) Anderson of Brandon, SD; grandchildren, Cory Iverson, Dustin Frank, Nicole (Lance) Brolsma, Tyler Anderson, Mitchell (Ellie) Anderson, Jacob Johnson, Alex Johnson, Joe Anderson, and Ashley (Kellen) Fausch; great-grandchildren, Everett Brolsma, Autumn Anderson, Lena Anderson, Evelyn Anderson, Brixton Anderson, and Natalie Fausch; siblings, Connie (John) Mundy, Jim Cox, Jean (Terry) Maakestad, and Jane (John) Thate; in-laws, Norm Abel, Tim Conrady, Mary Ellen (Roger) Mathwig, Marlene Peterson, and Robert Parker; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Viola Cox; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Esther Parker; sisters, Sue Abel and Mary Conrady; in-laws, Lois Cox, Lee Parker, Don Parker, Patsy Parker, Clarice Schaller, Butch Schaller, Don Keith, and Robert Peterson; nieces and nephews, Travis Conrady, Josh Conrady, Benjamin Thate, Randy Keith and Janell Klatt.
