Clifford Creaser

Clifford Creaser

Age - 89

November 29, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clifford Rodney Creaser, 89, of Mason's Beach Road, Lunenburg, on Monday, November 27, 2023 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, NS. Born in Riverport, he was the son of late Wilford and Mildred (Poole) Creaser. In Cliff's early years he worked as an electrician in Labrador City, as a bartender at the Lunenburg Tavern, and retired after many years as a long-haul truck driver. One of his most memorable jobs was hauling Christmas trees for Dwight Saunders. Cliff enjoyed a good adventure. He travelled to Spain, New York for two World Series, and attended various football and basketball games across the United States. He had a passion for NASCAR; one of the last races he attended was the Southern 500, in Darlington, SC where he took family and friends on a trip to remember. If he wasn't watching sports live or on the TV, he was out boating, bass fishing, and clam digging. Cliff loved to socialize. His home was the hub for many football & NASCAR parties, card games (money was always involved), and annual Christmas lobster suppers. Over the last few years Cliff would spend time driving around Lunenburg waterfront, and was always up for a good yarn amongst friends. Cliff liked to keep up on the local and global news. He was very knowledgeable, and could always figure out a solution to any problem. Cliff was a great friend, and would help out whenever you called; though you might have to put up with him laughing at you, but that was all part of Cliff's charm. As Cliff would say, if you wrote your last cheque and it bounced, you did it right. Clifford is survived by his son Terry Creaser, grandsons Michael (Krystal) Creaser, Nicholas (Sherrie) Creaser, Stephen Creaser; great grandchildren, Eli, Payge, and Rosabelle; sister Cindy Creaser, and best friend Coop. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Rosemarie and sister, Betty. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and from where visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 11:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m. A private interment service will follow at Shepherd's Hill Cemetery, Riverport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter would be appreciated by the family.Show more

Ronald Hyson

Ronald Hyson

Age - 96

November 18, 2023

Ronald Edward Hyson (Ronnie), the oldest living original resident of Indian Point, Lunenburg County, NS, was one of 5 children born to his late parents Morris & Violet Hyson. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Myrna (Russell) and his siblings Margaret, Lorraine & Keith. He is survived by one brother, Lindberg Hyson, better known as Bobby. Ronnie was born March 3, 1927 and departed November 10, 2023. He leaves behind his 9 children: Darryl, Lindy, Patsy, Roxanne, Ian, Arne, Daphne, Nadine & Craig, in addition to 12 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. At the age of 17, dad joined the Merchant Marines in Halifax, NS. He served on the SS Oakmount Park as a galley assistant & deck mate until December 1945. Though he would tell you he enjoyed life on the water, there were times the rough seas had him feel otherwise. Among other places, his ship visits to the West Indie Islands spun the most stories with particular emphasis on his Jamaican adventures. On the ship he acquired a 'taste' for cooking which included appropriate attention to cookware. Right up to present time he took pride in his personal frying pans having them always appear in new condition. His stories included a strict galley routine of detailed dishwashing & hand drying. This left an indelible impression as he maintained these habits throughout his life. Surely the discipline of meticulous habit influenced his carpentry skills in the years to follow, for he was known to be a perfectionist. Upon return to land he joined his father & older brother Lorraine, building summer cottages for a Lunenburg County holiday resort. This saw the beginning of his trade as a skilled carpenter's foreman, earning his way to reputable wood working shops until retirement. A favourite childhood memory was the smell of wood chips that collected in the cuff of his pant legs. In his youth, dad was known to masterfully handle a puck on the ice with hockey being a favourite pass time. As a means of mentally living the sport, he made every effort to attend Bridgewater hockey games with his son Lindy up to the age of 96. Another joy in his life was regular attendance with mom at local jam sessions & variety shows. This offered him an outlet to participate in singing where his vocal abilities could have been acknowledged on stage had he not been lacking in the confidence to do so. In his past he was involved with volunteer fire departments having co-founded the fire department in Black Point, NS in 1951. It was not long after this he found himself back to his roots where he became active in the Indian Point fire department. It was in Indian Point that all 9 children were subsequently raised. Part of the reward for child raising was to visit his adult children in different locales. This took mom & dad across Canada from east to west, as well as to California. As best we could, the family accommodated dad's wishes to remain at home up to the 5 week stay at Fisherman's Memorial Hospital including the Veterans Unit, where he passed away at the age of 96. The family is very grateful for the staff's kind attention during this period of time. You lived a full life papa. Now with the love of your nine children, we carry on varied aspects of your character: singing, travelling, hobby woodworking, professional carpentry, hockey fans, cooking, boating, fishing, sense of quick wit and yes, lots of meticulous habits. "It is hard to turn the page when someone you know won't be in the next chapter, but the story must go on" author unknown We give a final salute to our perceived Mayor of Indian Point. In keeping with dad's request to be cremated with no formal remembrance service, family will gather at a later date for cemetery internment. It is at this time that the wish of both parents to have their ashes jointly put to rest, will be honoured. Online condolences can be left at www. sweenyfuneralhome. ca. Donations in Ronald's name can be made to Indian Point Park Cemetery, Indian Point, through Sweeny's Funeral Home.Show more

Linda Dakin

Linda Dakin

Age - 78

November 16, 2023

Linda Cordiamai Dakin (Digby, Nova Scotia) departed this life courageously ending her battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) on November 8, 2023. The second of seven children, she was born to the late Lewis Leslie and Nora Jane (Payne) Hutchings on June 25, 1945 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Linda married James Leonard (Ted) Dakin, her husband of 51 years, on September 2, 1964. They spent their married lives in Digby, Nova Scotia where Linda worked in the Royal Bank and was a bookkeeper for Par Dak Business Services and The Pines Resort. Linda was a true artist. Her creativity flowed and her perfectionism showed through her many crafts and hobbies. As a child, her sisters remember her neatly organized Sears catalogue cutout paper doll collection. As a young mother, she knitted baby outfits and sewed entire doll and barbie wardrobes. Quilting was her passion for many years. Her meticulously crafted quilts will be treasured for years by her friends and family. Her eye for color and art was evident not only in her quilts, but also in her rug hooking, needle point, cross stitch, ceramics, toll painting, knitting, sketching, and oil painting. When she was not "creating", she could be found poking around fabric stores, jewelry stores, and vintage China shops (often with her sisters), watching curling (on the phone with her sisters) or reading romance novels (passed around by her sisters). Linda's daughter and grandsons will remember her homemade bread, egg tarts, cookies, post golf mango smoothies, Halloween costumes, Marble Mountain ski trips, homemade mittens and hats, cozy flannel quilts, and many games of the three C's (Crib, Cantan, and Canasta). She will be especially remembered for her competitive nature in said games ('nough said). She will be remembered by her siblings for her beautiful smile and devilish antics. "Linny-Lou" was her father's "little boy", following him across the bogs in Newfoundland to get Christmas trees, shoveling snow, and cutting firewood with him. She is remembered for her role in the many batches of fudge made by "the girls" whenever their mother left the house. She will forever be remembered for allowing her sisters to be punished after she stole the "flavor bud" from the jello package, only for the evidence from her red sticky fingers to be noticed smeared across the back of her pants when it was her turn to be spanked. As she watched her two grandsons grow, she often reflected on the antics of her brothers. It seemed that nothing could surprise her having known Bryan and Larry. Linda will be remembered by her many friends for her generosity and community participation in various clubs and activities. She loved a good game of bridge and participated in many bridge clubs. On the nights that she did not play in a league, she could be found playing bridge socially with her husband and her many friends. She baked and delivered cookies and sweets to the shut-ins of the community on Christmas Eve. Over the years, she volunteered at the hospital gift shop, the Wharf Rat Rally, Lobster Bash, and Scallop Days. She was a member of Grace United Church and contributed to many aspects of her church community, including roles as a Sunday school teacher and Elder. She will be remembered by all for her infectious smile, generosity, and stubborn nature. Linda is survived by her daughter, Kelly Dakin Hache; grandchildren, Hunter and Austin Hache; sisters, Barbara (John) Young (Ottawa, ON), Dianne (Arthur) Squarey (St. John's, NL); Noreen (Jim) Powell (Upper Kingsclear, NB); Kim (Larry) O'Brien (St. John's, NL); brothers, Bryan Hutchings (Charlottetown, PE); Larry (Valerie) Hutchings (Victoria, BC); and a large extended family that includes many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, James Leonard (Ted) Dakin (Digby, NS), her parents, Nora Jane (Payne) Hutchings (Curling, NL) and Lewis Leslie Hutchings (Woody Point, NL), and her in-laws, James Daniel (Ted, Sr) and Josephine Loretta (Eldridge) Dakin (Digby, NS). The family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the loving staff at Ridgewood Assisted Living (Bridgewater, NS) for their care and companionship. A special thank you to Sandra Turnbull (Digby, NS) for her many years of friendship and care. Sincere thanks to Vicki for care and support at the dimming of the day. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cure Progressive Supranuclear Palsy at www. psp. org or to a hospital foundation of your choice.Show more
