Gerald Lewis Howell, Jr., 43, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at UF Health in Jacksonville. He was born October 1, 1980 in Jacksonville, FL to Gerald and Betty (Smith) Howell. He attended Jacksonville Christian Academy and worked alongside his mother keeping her rental properties up to standards. Gerald lived life through simple pleasures. He enjoyed chatting with friends and family, tinkering with classic cars and playing his guitars. Gerald loved his music, and his two idols were Brittany Spears and Miley Cyrus. He was a loving son, brother uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Gerald was preceded by his sister, Connie Jean Howell and grandmother, Betty Cary. He is survived by his parents, Gerald Howell, Sr. and Betty Wood; brother, Darrell Lewis Howell; uncles, Jimmy Lee Honeycutt, Robert Smith and Jimmy Howell; aunts, Lisa Kossale and Barbara Jean Howell and many more along with two nieces, multiple cousins and numerous extended family and friends. Family, friends and others whose lives Gerald touched, are invited to join in the celebration of his life at 2:00pm, Monday, March 4, 2024 for graveside services in the Garden of Devotion at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 1:45pm in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home prior to service.

Benjamin Alexander Wellman, 33 of Jacksonville, FL passed away on February 1, 2024. Benjamin was born in Jacksonville to Diane Devino-Wellman and Joseph F. Wellman on November 6, 1990. Benjamin was raised in Jacksonville and was a friendly, engaging, and outgoing man. Ben loved dogs, collecting precious and semi-precious stones, music, and sports cars. In high school at Bishop Kenny, he lettered in Cross Country and was also president of the Interact Club. After graduation from BK in 2009, he continued his studies at the University of North Florida. He Graduated from UNF in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. During college, Ben worked at the Banfield Pet Clinic where he combined his love for dogs with the friendship of his coworkers. After college Ben worked in a variety of roles with an array of companies. Following brain surgery in the spring of 2023, his former coworkers welcomed him back to Banfield where he was provided a lighter work schedule while he continued to heal. His family and friends remember him as a bright light in a regular world. A Celebration of Life will be held for Benjamin on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223.

In loving memory of Kenneth Gerard Menard, affectionately known as Ken, who was born on December 24, 1944, in Buffalo, NY, to Eugene Kenneth Menard and Claire Pauline Gingrass Menard. Ken peacefully passed away on January 5, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by his loving family. Ken was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother and very proud grandfather. Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Feagin, who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges and by his children Claire Menard-Hillis (Daniel) and Michael Menard (Laura), as well as his step-daughter Erica Corbett. He is also survived by his sister Angel Catherine (Kay) Fickenwirth, sister Claire Adam, brother Guy Menard (Marcia), mother-in-law Jacquelyn Feagin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law LeAnne Feagin Heard and Jack Heard and former wife Maria Pilar Menard. He was additionally blessed with a granddaughter, Caiya Menard, and step-grandchildren Raphael Hillis, Nicole Hillis, Jorden Bjorn, Ella Bjorn, Lavery Drake, and Lyle Drake, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ken’s family was the center of his world, and his legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on through them. Ken is preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Joy Hummell (James) and Margaret Cuzydlo (Charles), as well as his brother-in-law Ronald Fickenwirth and father-in-law Luther Feagin. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved them. Ken proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, achieving the esteemed rank of Master Chief Petty Officer before retiring. His duty stations included Rota, Spain (twice); Newport, RI; Norfolk, VA; and finally, Mayport, FL. His dedication and commitment to duty exemplified the highest standards of service, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors alike. Following his retirement from the Navy, Ken embarked on a new chapter in his life, entering the automobile business. With his unparalleled work ethic, dedication, and leadership skills honed during his military service, Ken quickly excelled at the dealership level, earning numerous sales awards and rising to positions of management. After 28 years and several dealerships, Ken retired full time marking an end to a remarkable chapter in his career. Ken and Lisa shared a passion for adventure and travel, embarking on many unforgettable journeys together on their motorcycle. One of their most epic adventures was a cross-country journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. As they traversed the vast expanse of the United States, Ken and Lisa created cherished memories, exploring new places, and experiencing the beauty of the open road. Their motorcycle travels symbolized their adventurous spirits and their deep bond as partners in life’s journey. Whether cruising along scenic highways or navigating through challenging terrain, Ken and Lisa faced each adventure with courage, resilience, and an unwavering sense of togetherness. In later years, his passion turned from motorcycles to classic cars. He and Lisa delighted in attending classic car shows and cruise-ins. Ken’s love for classics extended beyond admiration, as he also owned several cherished vehicles himself, including his treasured 1954 Chevrolet Belair that often took home awards from shows and cruise ins. Ken’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mark Zoller for his compassionate care and dedication throughout Ken’s journey. They are also immensely grateful to the care team at Community Hospice and Palliative Care for their unwavering support and comfort during Ken’s final days. Additionally, the family extends their deepest appreciation to Richard and Gail Turpen for their extraordinary friendship, love, and support during this difficult time. Their presence and kindness provided invaluable comfort and strength to Ken and his loved ones.

Mr. Silas Larry Culver, age 72, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday night (2/28/24) at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville following an extended illness. Born May 8, 1951, in Greenfield, Tennessee, he was a son of the late W.J. and Emma O’Steen Culver. Living most of his life in Pierce County, he graduated from Blackshear High School in 1971. He had worked as a homebuilder for Hannah Builders in Waycross and as a self-employed contractor for several years before becoming a farmer in 1977 as the owner/operator of Culver Farms, growing tobacco, corn, cotton, and peanuts. He was awarded the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year in 2003. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting, dove hunting, shooting squirrels, saltwater and freshwater fishing, and listening to hound dogs chase deer and rabbits through the woods and clearcuts. Through the years, he had been a member of the Pierce County Hunting Club, Skeeter Swamp Hunting Club, Cathole Hunting Club, and Jon’s Pond Hunting Club. He was also a member of the Pierce County Foxhunter’s Association, having recently been awarded the 2024 Sportsman of the Year. He also enjoyed woodworking with his friend, Jimmy Clark, planting a garden every year and tending to it, and was a major fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. He could frequently be found riding his Polaris Ranger to town to the feed store or on the dirt roads near his home and was one of the Smith Road area guards, or possibly even the neighborhood sheriff or mayor. He thoroughly loved his friends and family, enjoying spending time and riding his grandchildren around the farm, and was known and will be remembered for his sense of humor, often telling jokes or making comments to get a laugh out of someone. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Culver; and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Hulan Blackshear. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Terrie Smith Culver of Blackshear; 2 children, Candace Douglas (husband Josh) and Zach Culver (wife Sarah), all of Blackshear; 3 grandchildren and another expected soon, Peyton Douglas, Fisher Douglas, Stella Grace Culver, and Silas Culver due to be born in September; brother and sister-in-law, Cleve and Pam Culver of Blackshear; 3 nephews, Mike Blackshear (wife Lori), Kris Culver (wife Kaitlyn) and Roby Culver (wife Courtney); and several great nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral service will take place Monday morning (3/4/24) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Alabaha Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing online at www.hartfh.com. Hart Funeral Home of Blackshear is in charge of arrangements.
