Age - 73

November 30, 2023

Larry W. Coolidge, 73, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Saturday, November 25, 2023. Born on July 31, 1950, he was the son of Leonard and Gertrude (Bauman) Coolidge. In addition to his brother Robert Coolidge, (Barbara) he is survived by his sister-in-law, Irene Coolidge of South Williamsport. Larry was preceded in death by both parents and his oldest brother, Thomas. "Uncle Larry" will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and their children. Larry was a 1968 graduate of South Williamsport Area High School. He completed training in the drafting program at Williamsport Area Community College. He worked as a quality control manager, local distributor for Wise Snack products, and was employed at Staples. Larry was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Williamsport where he served as an usher and deacon. Simplicity was a common theme in Larry's daily life. He could be seen walking or riding his bike to attend games for the school district's athletic teams. His backyard garden provided vegetables for sandwiches made at home. At dusk, on a hot summer evening, he could be seen watching the sunset on his front porch swing. His soft-spoken words in conversation were often accompanied by a slight smile. He was a loyal fixture at Lycoming College home football games and all South Williamsport athletic events. Larry leaves a legacy marked by his continuous pursuit of hometown memorabilia and a treasured collection of yearbooks from the South Williamsport Junior/Senior High. Larry was a knowledgeable historian, sharing his vast collection of newspaper articles, residential maps, and pictures, with family, community members, and school administrators. Larry considered it a great honor to share statistics about South sports and team record holders within the community. Past South graduates often contacted Larry for memorabilia for their class reunions and he served on several reunion committees. He was interviewed for WVIA's "Our Town Series" where South Williamsport residents provided a "day-in-the-life" insight as to the community's origin. Larry spent countless hours tracing Coolidge genealogy and developed a detailed narrative about the family's ancestral roots. For decades, Larry's enthusiasm for the South Williamsport football team demonstrated his home team pride and loyalty. In the 1950's and 60's, Larry watched his brothers, Tom and Bob play for the Mounties. He watched his nephews play for South Williamsport and most recently, his great nephew stepped in as the team's kicker. Larry was having the time of his life, watching as South swept the district championship and entered playoffs. His final evening was spent on the 50-yard line, surrounded by family and cheering fans in blue and white. He proudly watched his team command the field for a 33-0 victory over their opponent. It was likely one of the greatest nights for a dedicated Mountie football fan like Larry. It is for this reason the family suggests all donations in Larry's honor can be made to the Gridiron Club. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, November 30th from noon- 1:00 pm at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home located at 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport.
