Rumford, ME – Barbara M. (Williams) Burroughs, 77, of Peru and formerly of Dallas, TX passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Rumford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Warren H. Burroughs who died in 2021. She was born in Dallas, TX a daughter of the late Leroy & Vera (Helm) Williams. She grew up in Dallas with her two sisters Lucy & Opal and her brother Johnny. She attended local area schools and graduated from Sunset High School in Oakcliff, TX. She married her high school sweetheart Warren and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2020. She worked alongside her husband at the Texas Theatre for many years and moved to Maine twelve years ago to be closer to their granddaughter. “Mac” was a huge movie fan, a joy she shared with her husband. She loved her family with her whole heart and was truly a gift from God. She followed His words and always saw the good in everyone and was always there to listen and give out great advice. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her and will continue to live in our hearts. She is survived by her two children Kristie Burroughs and Jeffrey Burroughs both of Peru. She also leaves her granddaughter Madeline as well as her sister Lucy MacFadden as well as nieces Jamie & Megan. Psalm 111-10 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do his commandments; His praise endureth forever.” Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 2 – 3 pm at Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot Street, Rumford. A funeral service will follow at Thibault at 3 pm. Burial in Demerritt Cemetery, West Peru will be private.

Rumford- Jean (Howe) Grover passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Rumford Hospital. Jean was born on January 22, 1932 in East Waterford to parents Harold Howe and Mildred (Heath) Howe.Jean graduated from Norway High School in 1949. She went on to serve as a Librarian Apprentice for the Maine State Library in Augusta in 1950. Jean also worked at local grocery stores and spent 10 years as a certified nursing assistant at a Rumford nursing home. Jean had a great love for Cocker Spaniels, so much that she participated in providing foster care for the dogs. She adopted many of them along the way.In 1951, Jean married the love of her life, Robert Eli Grover of Mason Township. Together, they raised 4 children, Suzanne (Grover) Bernhard, Kenneth Grover, Douglas Grover and James Grover. Rumford, ME – Cheryl A. (Benjamin) Thomas, 62, passed away at her home after a long illness on Sunday, January 14, 2024. She was the wife of Everett L. Thomas III. She was born on November 7, 1961 in South Boston, MA a daughter of the late Francis & Shirley (Godbout) Benjamin. She grew up in Boston attending local area schools and graduated from South Boston High School. After high school she obtained her Master’s Degree in Criminal Technology from Suffolk University in Boston. Cheryl used her degree and became a juvenile parole office the City of Boston before retiring due to illness. Her and her husband moved up to Rumford, ME in 2018. She was known as to many as the “card lady”, as she sent out cards to many folks for all kinds of special occasions. She enjoyed shopping and crocheting. She was always working on something for someone else. Baking sweets was her specialty. Besides her husband, she is survived by her grandson Michel Long of Lewiston, ME as well as three brothers Frank Benjamin and his wife Margie of Boston, George Benjamin and his wife Lisa of Florida and John Benjamin of Quincy, MA; a sister Donna Benjamin of Randolph, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Michel Benjamin. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. RUMFORD - Robert A. Cushman Sr, 74, of Rumford, lost his battle with liver disease on December 31, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 16, 1949, in Farmington, a son of Donald and Doris (Blodgett) Cushman. He attended schools in Dixfield. Robert worked at the Rumford Paper Mill for almost 25 years in the Hardwood Bleachery and, later on, the Storeroom. He loved hunting and fishing, especially the many moose hunts he was able to be part of. Once his wife retired they spent many days fishing on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, hunting and riding their 4-wheeler. He spent summers at camp where playing horseshoes was always a passion, and in the winter, it was snowmobiling and spending numerous hours grooming trails for local clubs. Sunday dinners with the family were always a favorite, as he loved his family endlessly. He spent many years on Rumford bowling teams and he and Jennie taking trips with special friends Donna and Ed, which always led to many laughs and adventures. In the past few years, he grew to love the casino. His most desired passion was definitely his family and watching his great-grandchildren play. Robert was a true family man. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jennie; their three children, Robert Cushman, Jr. and wife, Angie of Peru, Michelle Sanborn and wife, Lisa of Rumford and Tracey Cummings and husband, Aaron of Rumford; eight grandchildren, Samantha Cummings, Katelyn Hodgkins and husband Jared, Stephanie Dodge and husband Casey, Sarah Bourret and fiance Zack, Chris Bourret and fiance Abby, Ryan Bourret and wife Karen, Lauren Bradley and husband James, John Lyle Calden and wife Ashley; 12 great-grandchildren, Ryker, Eli, Jack, and Mason Hodgkins, Lawson Dodge, Maddie and Jackson Bourret, Lydia and Madison Bradley, Carter, Mason, and Stella Calden; two siblings, Greg Cushman and wife Brenda of Mexico and Barry Cushman and wife Sylvia of Solon. He was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Donald Cushman, and granddaughter, Rebecca Cushman. Rumford, ME – Martina “Marty” M. Towle, 75, of Rumford, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Horizons Residential Home. She was born on October 1, 1948 in Rumford a daughter of the late Archer and Rita (Paradis) Towle. Marty lived her entire life in Rumford, ME, graduating from Rumford High School as a member of the class of 1967 and The Auburn Maine School of Commerce shortly after. Growing up she enjoyed ice skating at Pettingill School, swimming and family vacations at the family camp at Weld (Webb Lake) and times spent at Bailey’s Island. Later in life Marty attended Hope Association and became a resident of Horizons. There Marty had a life well lived, full of loving and caring people. She looked forward to her weekly McDonald’s run, bowling, car rides, her M&M’s and trips to the ocean. Thank you all for that. Because of you Marty was able to live her life as she wished and as independently as possible. She is survived by a sister-in-law Lucille Constible and three nieces, Dawn White, Patty Towle and Jennifer Davis as well as three special cousins, Michael Gaudin, Patrick Gaudin and Janice McKenna. Claude Laverdure

Auburn, ME - Claude was born on the family farm in Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides, Quebec on September 30, 1941 to Romuald and Rose-Emma (Husereau) Laverdure. During his childhood, the family moved to the village of Val-David where Claude attended school and grew into the young man that would eventually settle in Maine. Claude died peacefully, his wife Rejeanne by his side. Claude married Rejeanne Morrissette on May 8, 1965 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Shortly thereafter they settled in Mexico, ME into family life. Together they created a home enriched with love, comfort and joy. Our childhood years were filled with family trips to Quebec to share our lives with our extended family instilling the language, culture and identity as French Canadians. As we grew older we enjoyed regular weekend camping and many family vacations extending down the east coast to the northern most reaches of Quebec and Ontario. Claude worked for the Town of Rumford, department of public works for over 30 years. Our family were regular parishioners of Saint-Theresa's church where he and our mother were active members of the church community. Our father was not one for idle moments. In their 25 years of retirement he and our mother expanded their travels and toured the countryside of the US and Quebec in their RV. They had a shared passion for Blue Grass Music Festivals so much so they were awarded the 2019 Fans of The Year at the Eastern Canada Bluegrass Festival. Throughout their travels they made lasting friendships from all walks of life. When not traveling, Claude could be found in his workshop crafting fine furniture for himself, his family and friends. Claude's lasting legacy will be his undeniable work ethic and commitment to family. Together with our Mom they forged a lasting partnership guiding us thoughtfully through our formative years. Family, craftsmanship, and work were the center of his life. He was a devoted son, husband, father and papa and will be missed by many. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at both Central Maine Medical Center and the Androscoggin Hospice HOuse Claude leaves his wife of 58 years, Rejeanne, his son's Alain and Robert (David) and daughter Helene. His granddaughter Samantha (Maxwell) and great-grandson, Clark, a sister, Pierette (Jean) Bolduc and brother, Victor (Pierrette) Laverdure. Claude is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and extended family of in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Cecile (Fernand) Dufour. A Mass of Christian Burial along with committal prayers will be held in the spring.

Among her cherished family are grandchildren Amanda Morey and Samantha Bouchard, as well as nieces Debbie King and Krystal King, with many more loving relatives. As one of eighteen siblings, Claire's hard work defined her life. She brought warmth even to the rainiest days, with an abundance of jokes and hugs. Her mission was to make people smile, and her absence will be deeply felt. A rare and strong woman, Claire remained tenacious and selfless until the end. Fly high, beautiful angel. You are loved.

Roxbury, ME - Ernest Gerard Boudreau (Ernie, Ness), 86, of Roxbury Maine, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023, surrounded by the watchful caring eyes of his loving and devoted wife and children. He was born in Rumford, Maine, February 4, 1937, the son of Alphonse and Josephine (Bernard) Boudreau. He graduated from Rumford High School in 1955, and then after serving in the U. S. Army, started employment with the Rumford paper mill, where he worked as an electrician until he retired. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Jean (Breau) and they proudly raised their three children in "Frye" (Roxbury). An avid competitive athlete, Ness always had a love for sports, from playing at the "stute" for the St John's team, to playing football, basketball and baseball for the Rumford High School Panthers, to coaching, spending many years golfing, cross-country skiing, hiking, bowling, kayaking, playing billiards, pickle ball and tennis, and then competing in the National Golden Age Games starting when he was 80 years old. Ness remained very active until the most recent years of his life. He was also a die-hard Red Sox & Patriot's fan. His love for family, however, was even stronger. He always loved an opportunity for the family to get together. His devotion to his family was a guiding light, transforming simple gatherings into cherished memories. Whether it was the warmth of his smile during festive celebrations or the quiet strength he provided in everyday moments, Ness leaves behind a legacy of boundless love that will continue to resonate within our hearts, and those fortunate enough to have known him. Ness is survived by his wife Jean of 52 years, daughters Debbie Brown and husband Doug of Roxbury, and Donna Boudreau of South Portland, and son "t-boy" Dean Boudreau and wife Kristal of Gorham, along with 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his brother Alphonse (Jun) Boudreau of Connecticut, sister Ann McCluskey and husband Peter of Hartford, and extended family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was pre-deceased by brothers Ernest Joseph, Clarence (Quinn), Elmer (Babe), sister Beatrice (Bea) Clark, and his parents. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at the Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius St. John Catholic Church, 126 Maine Ave. , Rumford, on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11:00 a. m. Interment will be at the St. John's Cemetery in Rumford in the Spring. The family would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to Dr. Deluca for the care he has shown Ness all these years, as well as the warm-hearted and empathetic caregivers with Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice these last few weeks. Please, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Rumford Community Center (GRCC) for youth sports programs, or Operation Reboot Outdoors for disabled Veterans.
